25.01.2022 ROSES ARE RED THIS TIME OF YEAR Grafton v8 dirt modified driver Josh Rose driving the N52 Troyer chassis show all his class last night, December 28th picki...ng up the win in the 2020 Christmas Cup held at the Hession's Auto Parts Grafton Speedway in front of a huge and very happy crowd. It was a very hot summers day as teams started to arrive at the Clarence valley venue and with afternoon thunderstorms a real possibly everyone was looking at the phone radars with their fingers crossed that the approaching storms would miss the us. Thankfully the storms moved to the east and it was all systems go for the Christmas Cup. With drivers briefing called over the pit mic drivers and crews a came together for roll call and to find out the race format. Unfortunately numbers where a little down on what officials received prior to the event, but never the less eleven drives signed in and would go into the lucky dip marble draw to determine their starting positions in heat one. The format would see all 11 cars race in three heats run over 12 laps each. What ever marble you picked would be your starting position for heat one. Heat 2 would be a complete invert of heat one. Heat three would see the highest driver on points start at the rear and the lowest start on pole so on and so on. After all the heats the top six drivers picked a marble out of the hat the get their starting position for the all important 25 laps A main. ..HEAT RACE RESULTS. HEAT 1. 1st N84 Mark Connolly. 2nd Q44 Marley Weller. 3rd Josh Rose. Followed by Hobson, Griffith, Dunn, A Firth, and rounding out the field was Taylah Firth. DNFs Britten and Polsen. HEAT 2. 1st N51 Andrew Firth. (s) 2nd A1 Kevin Britten. 3rd N5 Mark Griffith. (s). Followed by Eveleigh, Hobson, Polsen, Rose, T Firth, Dunn, Connolly, and rounding out the field was Weller. HEAT 3. 1st A1 Kevin Britten. 2nd N21 Chris Polsen. 3rd N83 Luke Dunn. Followed by A Firth, Rose, T Firth, and rounding out the field was Griffith. DNFs Eveleigh. DNS Hobson and Weller. Unfortunately Eveleigh had a huge roll over and totally destroyed the N16 Sportsman modified. Blake was unhurt in the crash and put it down to just a racing incident. Ok with all the heats now complete the stage was set for the running of the 2020 Christmas Cup to be run over 25 laps. After all the heats the points red out like this. On top Andrew Firth with 120.0, 2nd was Rose on 114.0, 3rd was Griffith on 111.0, followed by Dunn on 102.0, Britten on 97.0, T Firth on 90.0, Eveleigh on 82.0, Polsen also on 82.0, then came Hobson on 76.0, Connolly on 73.0 and Weller last but not forgotten on 67.0. The starting line up for the A main would see up and coming Grafton driver Luke Dunn starting on the all important pole with Newcastle’s Mark Griffith beside him. Followed by N51-A1-N52-Q15-N16-N21-V84-N84 and Q44 at the back of the bus. Let's go racing was the call for the huge Grafton crowd, GREEN GREEN GREEN and it was go time as Dunn set the early pace down the back straight with the cast of the fast sweating on his every move. As the race got into a rhythm the top three of Dunn, A Firth and Rose tried all they could to gap them selfs for the rest of the field but with the track super fast it was always going to be a tuff ask. After about 10 laps or so Rose made his way around Firth and set is sights on his future brother in law Dunn. This would have had both the Rose and Dunn families on the edge of their seats as the two boys gave it there all. Eventually Josh made his well calculated move around Luke, with a clean pass on the high line and then set sale for the promise land With Dunn now in a very competitive second place and laps winding down 5 time Aussie Champion Kevin Britten went to the boards and eventually made the pass around both Firth then Dunn moving him into second and setting his sights on Rose who was flying out in front. Next to challenge Firth and Dunn for the third place was Victorian star Todd Hobson in the Australian built TMI chassis. Considering Todd had only ever seen the Grafton track on Google maps and this was his first time racing at the place he was like, and I quote A duck to water showing he has the talent to mix it with anyone, anywhere as he passed Dunn, moving into P3. Andrew Firth was content with just hitting his marks as the laps wound down knowing he would be the first sportsman can across the line. Back up front and with only three laps to go Rose was all but home as Britten tried his hardest to get onto the number 52 s tail, but it wasn’t to be as the Grafton fans in the stands came to there feet showing there appreciation for Rose as his crossed the line ahead of Britten and Hobson. Firth would bring the N51 Sportsman home in 4th respectably, followed by Chris Polsen in 5th, Dunn would eventually come home in 6th. Mark Griffith and Taylah Firth rounded out the field. Josh was over the moon with the win in victory lane and almost had a tears in the eyes considering all the hard work the Rose family racing Team has put into his car over the passed weeks. Second place Britten was happy with that heading into the PB44 at Archerfield on NEW YEARS DAY. Todd Hobson said the Grafton track was the best track he has raced on in years and said he will definitely be back on January 2nd. Firth picked up the win for the Sporty’s and was very happy with the result. Driver of the meeting has to be Luke Dunn, in only a very short time Luke has shown his right at home in the V8 Dirt Modifieds and will get better and better over time Well done to you Luke and the Dunn racing team. On be half of the NSW club I’d just like to take at the time out to thank Grafton track promoter Mick Corbett, Mick and his staff worked the track all night and the results came up trump’s as the surface was blistering fast for all the feature racers, ..THANK YOU AND WELL DONE MICK Wow an awesome night on an awesome track . Thanks everyone for making it another great race meeting and too you the drivers thanks for putting on a first class show for the fans in the stands . 13.01.2022 MISTER HISTORY... Is this it? Is this the weekend that current and four times Australian V8 Dirt Modified Champion Kevin Britten becomes the first man ever to w...in five consecutive National titles? His form and his reputation would say yes. There's a long way to go and 45 others who say they want the title too but it'd be a brave soul who bets against the #1. It's hard to believe he's only 26 years old and yet he's already achieved so much. The Brisbane mechanic has also raced Juniors and Sprintcars in his ten years in the Speedway game and has the Sport Engines 350 Chevy right on song in his beloved Troyer Chassis. Britten lists a handful of his favourite tracks including Archerfield, Parramatta, Toowoomba, Bunbury & the Perth Motorplex. He rates Mark Robinson and Brett Clark as his main contenders and comes into the weekend as the red hot favourite to walk away with an incredible 5 consecutive championships and an unprecedented 8 titles for he and brother Peter. He's already, in his mid-20's, one of the sport's greats. Can he take it to another level this weekend? 06.01.2022 DOING THE HARD GRAFT Located 3hrs from the Gold Coast, right in the middle of Grafton City on the NSW North Coast, Grafton Speedway is a picturesque showground ...venue which has been a mainstay for Northern NSW and Southern QLD competitors for several decades. Government regulation may have put a dampener on their proposed season calendar, with COVID-19 border restrictions preventing interstate competitors from attending their early season events, however the venue is pressing on undettered, instead turning their focus to growing the local competitor base through some innovative ideas. Grafton’s October 3 event will feature the innagrual ‘Derby Teams Champs’ event, with the track hosting 4-on-4 teams racing, utilising Derby cars. Track operators Mick and Cindy Corbett anticipate the concept will bring new blood to the sport, with huge interest expressed by local and travelling ‘teams’, all excited by the prospect of using Derby racing as an introduction to Speedway hopefully seeing them transition into other forms of Speedway over time. Despite COVID-19 restrictions, Grafton Speedway head into the 2020/21 season with renewed enthusiasm thanks to major capital works at the venue which will see a new, wider racing surface and a power and lighting upgrade to bring new life to the historic 113 year-old showground facility. Since acquiring the venue in 2018, Mick and Cindy’s focus has been to restablish Grafton as a competitors favourite, with emphasis on consolodating classes to ensure strong field sizes and plenty of track time. They’ve set about widening the 440m clay track from 11m to 15m wide, with more banking and new clay. Coupled with three new lighting towers and a significant power upgrade, competitors can look forward to more opportunities for side-by-side action. More info about Grafton Speedway can be found via their website: https://graftonspeedway.com.au/, while their Derby Teams information can be found here: http://www.teamschamps.com.au//245/derby-teams-champs.pdf We wish Grafton Speedway all the best ahead of their much anticipated 2020/21 season!
