25.01.2022 It is not too late, if you haven't already call us on 47814495 to make an appointment for your Flu Vaccination. Also did you know if you're a organisation or workplace who wants to look after your staff, our awesome team can come to you!

25.01.2022 Dear Townsville: We will have a pop-up COVID-19 testing clinic located at Strand Park on Monday 20 July, Wednesday 22 July and Friday 24 July this week. On thes...e days, the clinic will be open from 9AM 2PM. Here’s what you need to know: - Our dedicated staff in the pop-up clinics will be wearing all of the necessary personal protective equipment. It won’t win a fashion award but we’re here to make sure you’re safe, not to dress snazzy - You know the symptoms, but in case you’ve had your head in the sand at the Strand: fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, lack of taste or smell and fatigue are all signs - Get tested, even if it’s mild. You don’t want to be the person who neglects symptoms and finds out when it’s too late - Don’t be complacent; more travel means more chances of contracting COVID-19. If you haven’t escaped the sunny confines of North Queensland that’s fine; however, someone around you or someone you come into contact with may have, so if you’re sick, get tested - This location may change. The pop-up clinic will move in line with demand; however, we will keep everyone updated at ALL time. All updates will be broadcast on our Facebook page. In conclusion; if you’re sick, regardless of how mild, walk in, walk out and wait at home until you’re cleared.

25.01.2022 Public health warning as Q Fever cases surge Townsville Public Health Unit has today issued a public health warning following an increase in Q Fever... cases in North Queensland in the past week. Infections occur when people inhale air or dust from soil containing bacteria from the faeces or birth products of wild and domestic animals including kangaroos, cattle and bandicoots. Townsville Public Health Unit physician Dr Julie Mudd said one of the common ways people get affected was inhaling dust while mowing the lawn, particularly on rural and acreage properties. Anything that can stir up contaminated soil, such as mowing, can lead to people inhaling this bacterium and getting very sick, she said. Particularly for people with property and on acreage we want you to be wearing a mask when mowing the lawn following this sharp increase in cases. If Q Fever isn’t found and treated it can become a very serious and chronic disease that can damage the heart." Dr Mudd said Q Fever presented as a serious influenza-like illness with fevers which was complicating diagnoses given the intense focus on COVID-19. I am concerned that people are going to get tested for COVID-19, returning a negative result and then not following up with a medical practitioner if their symptoms don’t subside, she said. For the Townsville Hospital and Health Service catchment there had been eight confirmed cases of Q Fever in 2020 with the past week bringing a further six cases. Dr Mudd said there may be additional cases in the community that have yet to be diagnosed. As there is that incubation period, we may see additional cases start to filter through over the coming weeks," she said. Dr Mudd said an excellent fact sheet on Q Fever was available at: http://conditions.health.qld.gov.au//con/14/33/116/q-fever

21.01.2022 With the Coronavirus outbreak and the flu season fast approaching, JCU Health GP’s focus is to keep our staff and patients safe and remain open to help with all your health and well-being needs. In order for us to do this, we need some help from you. It is important to note that the majority of Coronavirus (COVID19) cases present are generally flu-like symptoms including fever, heachaches, cough and sore throat. As with any virus, it can lead to serious complications more so ...for our elderly and weakened immune systems patients. This is where we need your help; If a patient with coronavirus attends our clinic, sits in our waiting room or goes into a consultation room without wearing a protective mask and or sanitising their hands, we may have to quarantine and will be CLOSED for two weeks. But if a patient calls ahead, wears a mask and avoids unnecessary contact, we will not be contaminated and we will be able to treat our patients as per normal. If you have travelled overseas in the past 14 days and have symptoms consistent with a Coronavirus (COVID19) infection please call reception to arrange a phone consultation with one of our doctors. (A small private fee may apply) Patients who have not been overseas or do not feel they have been exposed to Coronavirus (COVID19), and have symptoms of a cold or flu, should also wear a mask the whole time they are in our clinic. To prevent the spread of influenza and other viruses will be key to protecting the health of us all. To ensure this, step up your regular hygiene by: Cleaning your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rubs often Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow when coughing or sneezing Avoiding contact with anyone who has symptoms, keep at least 1m between yourself and others in general Stay at home if you are unwell

17.01.2022 UPDATED HEALTH ADVICE To help prevent any further spread of COVID-19, Queenslanders must minimise the number of people they come into contact with. O...nly leave your home if it’s absolutely necessary. You can do so with members of your household or with one other person who is not a member of your household. Permitted reasons to leave your home are listed below. For a residence or household, the number of people allowed to gather in that house is limited to the usual members of that household, plus two other visitors who are family or close friends. We strongly urge people aged over 70, anybody over 65 with a chronic disease, and Indigenous people over 50 to stay at home for their own protection. You are now only allowed to leave your home if absolutely necessary for the following permitted reasons. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in a fine up to $1,330 for individuals and $6,670 for corporations. > To obtain essential goods and services > Receive medical treatment or health care services > Exercise > Do work or volunteering that is essential and cannot be done from home (this is any type of work that is not restricted under the latest ‘non-essential business activity and undertaking closure’ direction) > Visit another person’s home, as long as there are no more than 2 visitors who do not usually live there > Visit a terminally ill relative or attend a funeral > Assist, care for or support immediate family members > Attend a Court or tribunal or comply with a Court or tribunal order > Attend a childcare facility, school, university, or other educational institution to receive instruction that is not possible to receive at home > Assist with an investigation by police or other law enforcement authority > All shared custody arrangements of children under 18 years of age, whether informal or court-ordered, can continue as normal. You are allowed to leave home to take children from one parent’s home to the other parent’s home > To avoid illness, injury or the risk of harm > To comply with directions of a government agency.
