24.01.2022 Only the female red-back bites people, the males fangs are too small to penetrate human skin. Even the bites from small females may cause extreme discomfort. The puncture marks are visible, the venom is normally very slow to act causing a slight tingling within an hour but the full effect may take days to become apparent. Symptoms include swelling, stiffness and pain around the bite through to paralysis of the lower limbs. Red-backs are not an aggressive spider they o...nly bite people when disturbed and think they are catching prey or being attacked. Red-backs build untidy webs. The upper part is sticky to catch prey, the lower living quarters is not sticky. They build their webs adjacent to walls, fences, letterboxes, kids play equipment, stored items and under seats. Its worth having a look around, if you see any red-back webs there will be more it is worth having a thorough treatment carried out by a professional Pest Manager. Simply removing the webs will not give control.

21.01.2022 Although most customers see a reduction in pest activity during winter, it does not mean the problem is gone! Pests are just more reclusive during the winter months. Rodent activity in our homes significantly increases. The commensal rodents (house mouse, roof rat and Norway rat) are driven to seek warmer shelter with food and water sources. Our homes provide all of these needs. Watch for the tell tale signs of mouse or rat droppings and take action if you see evidence. 13.01.2022 Dust mites are not considered a pest by most people although some people, children and babies in particular are sensitive to live dust mites, their faeces and cast skins and may suffer an allergic reaction when numbers build up. Dust mite allergy reactions often get diagnosed as a constant cold or ear infection in children. Dust mites are hard to eliminate from a property and management to keep them at low levels is mainly by lowering humidity to below 60% (if possible), e...xclusion (eg appropriate mattress covers) and reduction of suitable places for them to live and breed (eg carpet). Pest management treatments can aid in the short-term reduction of dust mites but the long-term minimization of dust mites at a property requires the combination of many strategies. These strategies have several factors in common: reducing humidity, reducing non-smooth surfaces such as carpet, encasing mattresses and pillows washing items including bed linen and soft toys regularly in hot water or water containing essential oils and regular, thorough cleaning and vacuuming.

11.01.2022 Please be diligent and regular having at least annual termite inspections done. It only costs $180.00 for the peace of mind that your home is free from damaging termite attack. Termites infestations have been found in homes in Forest Lake, Springfield Lakes and Redbank Plains this week. 05.01.2022 FLEAS The life cycle of the flea is similar to that of a moth egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (cocoon) and adult. A newly hatched adult flea is unfed, small, black and aggressive some people mistakenly refer to these as ground or sand fleas. After they have had a blood meal, fleas lighten in colour and become larger. For every flea on your pet there may be hundreds waiting to hatch! Sometimes flea treatments appear to be ineffective as small black fleas are seen after the treatment. This is because the pupae are quite resistant to chemicals. Fleas continue to emerge from pupal cases because insecticides cannot penetrate the flea pupal case. Ten fleas can potentially reproduce to 250,000 in only 30 days!

There are two kinds of paper wasp, both being fairly common in most parts of Australia. The wasps which build a rather long narrow nest hanging in a tree or shrub are Rhopalidia paper wasps. The second kind of paper wasps, called Polistes, make a nest the shape of an inverted wine glass or an upside-down crum...pet. Polistes build their nests under eaves and around windows. If the nest is outside a closed or screened window, its a good safe way to watch the wasps going about their daily lives, as these wasps can sting if disturbed. Paper wasps were the worlds very first paper makers. Female paper wasps scrape dead sticks to gather woody fibres to make the nest. The female usually builds a few cells from these woody fibres then fills them with her eggs. As the larvae hatch they are fed on bits of chewed-up caterpillar. When adults these begin feeding the next batch of babies while the females build more cells and lay more eggs. Paper wasps attack if they feel their nests are threatened. Unfortunately, just brushing against the nest may incite them to give you quite a nasty sting.

Every cockroach can produce about 40 eggs at a time and they might lay eight batches a season.
