19.01.2022 Best wishes for a happy and healthy festive season from the team at Jeavons. Thank you to Andrew Laidlaw and the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria for the beautiful backdrop.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to all the AILA VIC Australian Institute of Landscape Architects award winners and to those who submitted projects. We are proud to be part of a vibrant and vital landscape architecture profession in Australia. We are honoured to have received a landscape architecture award in the Health and Education category for our design for the Jona Children’s Sensory Garden at The Queen Elizabeth Centre in Noble Park.... This sensory garden provides a space for play-based developmental programs and for residential parents to play and learn to play with their children. The sensory garden was the subject of a research project into the therapeutic benefits of the garden by Deakin University. This revealed that Staff feel that the new garden has improved the learning opportunities of the clients and that it leads to better outcomes at the completion of their program. The new garden leaves parents and children feeling less agitated, less anxious, happier, and calmer and more relaxed. Staff also feel that the new garden helps them to improve their dialogue with clients. A former landscape architect at Jeavons, Sue Godfrey was the lead LA on this project. Landscape Construction by Arcadia Landscapes. Acoustic sculptures by Herb Jercher, sound artist (Hapi Herb’s Acoustic Playground Instruments)

17.01.2022 We loved seeing children walking and cycling to school today in Melbourne. Excited faces showing how much they’ve missed playing at school with their friends. We suspect there will also be a collective sigh of relief from parents. A big pat on the back to the families and teachers for all the work you’ve done. Now the value of good teachers is finally being recognized!

16.01.2022 International Children’s Day During the COVID lockdown we have observed many examples of creative use of parklands and children reclaiming their neighbourhood while traffic has been quiet, reinforcing the value of loose, natural spaces close to every home. Throughout this difficult time it has been a pleasure to see children making such creative use of public spaces.

13.01.2022 It took us long enough just to build the Nüdel Kart mini from Playground Ideas ... I think we need some kids creativity to help with the next stage

07.01.2022 COVID 19 Strategy Update In order to protect our team members, clients, family members and other immediate contacts, Jeavons is implementing a preventative strategy in order to continue to work effectively for our clients while avoiding direct person-to-person contact. We will continue to monitor advice from State and Federal authorities, WHO etc and will act accordingly. ... Continuing to serve clients - from home: All of our team members are now working from home. We are confident we can manage a seamless transition in order to continue to work effectively. Over the past many years Jeavons have invested in business management practices, strategies and in software that allows easy remote communications, and secure access to our data files. We also have many years’ experience in managing team members who are remote from our physical office. Communication: Please communicate initially via email to establish the best way to conduct future meetings and conversations and move projects forward. Please make sure that you include a direct phone number where we can reach you, especially if you are not at your normal workplace. No Personal Contact and Meetings: Effective immediately, we are avoiding all travel and physical meetings. We will now conduct all meetings via Microsoft Teams or phone. Next Steps: If you have any meetings scheduled with us, we will be in touch to discuss the project and our strategies to successfully achieve your project goals while minimising the associated risks. We wish you good health and will keep you informed of any further changes as the situation evolves.

05.01.2022 Can a playground be too safe? "The point of finding safety is not to avoid risk entirely which is impossible but to learn to distinguish between good risk and bad risk; to understand the balance involved."

02.01.2022 The catastrophic loss of life in the forests and surrounding habitats is devastating. We are deeply saddened by the impact on communities that is continuing with the bushfire emergency. As landscape architects, we urge our country’s leadership to use this event as a catalyst for learning from traditional owners and deep reflection about what kind of future we want for this country. Jeavons Landscape Architects will be registering our offer to assist communities in their rebu...ilding process. Landscape Architects and Architects can register for voluntary services for the future re-establishment of areas affected by bushfires: Architects Assist - Pro Bono Disaster Relief Service - www.architectsassist.com.au Kim Irons of Irons McDuff Architecture is also building a register of those willing to help.
