21.01.2022 *Rage: Firstly we are NOT workers We are dedicated EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS!I’m absolutely disgusted and infuriated by this journalism. I never hesitated to tell the children in my care I loved them. Our bond with our little ones should always be that of love. We are qualified educators, there has and always will be room for love within the scope of our profession. To insinuate that educators using the words I love you or I love you too as somehow creepy is incredi...bly damaging, and the height of disrespect. They could never do our jobs, they could never survive financially, emotionally or physically and I’m sick the my stomach to see the media portray incredible educators is such a horrific way. We live is a disturbing society when Early Childhood Educators are made to feel wrong for expressing the love they feel for the children they spend up to 8 hours a day with sometimes 5 days a week with. The children in my care will never not know how much I love them and I won’t be made to feel that expressing that love verbally is wrong.

20.01.2022 For anyone with children in children, preschool or primary school these are vital if you don’t want your child’s clothes to go missing.

20.01.2022 For my fellow Educators Accurate

15.01.2022 A great read by my favourites Janet and Magda. *I do wish ‘they’, ‘them’ pronouns were used instead of stereotypical ‘he’.

15.01.2022 More excellent ideas to celebrate this special week

13.01.2022 What a day What a week Last Thursday I lost my iphone and backed into a car leaving work. Today I got a flat tyre in the middle of the day with my little man in the back, coming off William Hovel Drive NRMA was called three times and unfortunately due to an error in their system we had a long wait time and were stuck. Little man’s father arrived to keep us company for a while. My Dad (Richard) left work and I sent the other back to work. We transferred a car seat int...o my Dads truck ate snacks, read books and sang songs until the tow truck arrived. Once we got to the tyre shop Little Man watched excitedly as the flat tire was removed and a new one put on (turns out I ran over a spark plug). Little Man enjoyed running his hands over the new tyres in the shop and telling my Dad where to sit while I waited to pay. After a long 3.5 hours it was finally time to head back to my place, but not before cooling down with icy poles . The rest of the arvo was spent reading books on my bed after a cool shower. I’m so proud of my little man, he showed such incredible patience today. Despite missing his nap he powered through the day with a smile on his face and cuddles for Dad and I. He’s such an amazing little human. Big thanks to my Dad for helping us through the day, Tyre Power Belconnen, and the lovely NRMA tow truck driver.

11.01.2022 Tuesday afternoons before we pick up her sister. After the hustle and bustle of school. It’s just us, exploring, smelling flowers, climbing trees, listening to birds. Being in the moment together. These times won’t last forever so I soak them up while I can. I love you so much little one.

09.01.2022 LOVE this! As most of you might already know I’m a huge advocate for children playing and sleep outdoors. Its extremely beneficial for children’s physical, mental, emotional development. I can not stress this enough! Child NEED to be outdoors, not just playgrounds, they need proper time to explore bush land, forests, creeks and where possible, beaches, sand dunes, snow, rock pools, lakes, ponds, rivers, mountains.

08.01.2022 It’s raining it’s pouring! This week I initiated some cool coloured paintings inspired by the recent rainfall This activity was good for challenging the children’s fine motor skills by pinching the pipette. This pinching action was tricky at first but with some concentration and practise they soon had the hang of it! Glitter was added for extra effect! It was very reminiscent of rain! We also took the opportunity to sing songs about rain and chatted about why rain is so go...od for the land. The tiny pipette and jar was actually my empty face serum from ‘ The Ordinary’. I love to reuse items instead of it going to landfill. Look around your home. You’d be surprised how many every day objects can be reused for art

06.01.2022 Behaviorists often advise parents with autistic children to scour their child’s room of all objects or sensory items. We decided to do the exact opposite for o...ur non-speaking, sensory-seeking, autistic son. His room is colorful because he loves color. I took him to thrift stores and let him choose all the pictures on the walls. Dude loves flowers, so I have flowers all over the room. And we’ve added rainbow bulbs, a disco lamp, and bubbling water lamps that he loves. His room isn’t a cage; it’s an oasis for him to escape to when he’s struggling, and only when he CHOOSES to go there. Many say they can’t do this because their autistic kids break everything. I found that because he’s chosen everything and it’s all things he loves, he doesn’t break anything. I see the scoured room as a metaphor for seeing nothingness in the human; we couldn’t do it. I’m not saying this is the answer for all neuro-divergent kids, but what I am saying is, there are always other far better answers than caging children. This is working for our son. #AutismIsntaCrime #endseclusion

06.01.2022 Attention span.

06.01.2022 So are you going to get a real teaching job one day? I’ve lost count of how many times people have asked that.

05.01.2022 School this year won't look like it ever has before. We are redesigning instruction, prioritizing standards and curriculum, and reassessing what our students ne...ed most at this time. As we reimagine education, teaching, and learning, let's also take a minute to redefine "whole body listening" and its implementation, too. . . . This outdated practice is problematic in so many ways. . . . It demands that our students prove they are engaged by moving, sitting, listening, acting in identical ways. But diverse brains have diverse needs. . . . It reinforces ableist community standards: "neurotypicals learn, focus, and engage in this way--and so should you." . . . It is often developmentally inappropriate for numerous students in any given class, and therefore is inappropriate as a whole-class expectation. . . . And it is mentally, physically, and psychologically harmful. We need to be teaching our students to listen and respond to what their body needs, not forcing it to sit, move, and focus in a way someone else deems appropriate. Teaching students to ignore what their body needs to learn and focus can and does lead to mental health issues, self-harming behaviors, toxic stress, and internalized ableism. It can also make students more susceptible to manipulation and abuse, as they have been trained to ignore what feels right to their body and instead conform to what adults tell them is best. . . . Is this really what we want our students to be learning? . . . As you design class rules and expectations for your room this year--whatever that "room" looks like--I hope you are prioritizing student engagement and learning, rather than enforcing outdated policies of policing students' bodies. My whole body is listening when I'm twirling a fidget, sitting on my feet, possibly "staring off into space." What does your "whole body listening" look like? What does your students'? . . . Picture ID: Text over a watercolor rainbow background reads: Whole body listening is ableist, developmentally inappropriate, and harmful. Speech bubble surround the main text and read: "Eyes on your teacher!" "Feet on the floor." "Quiet hands!" "No mouth noises." "Sitting criss-cross applesauce!" The Neurodivergent Teacher's logo is at the bottom. #BackToSchool #WholeBodyListening #SchoolRules #ClassroomRules #VirtualTeaching #VirtualClassroom #RemoteLearning #QuarenTeaching

04.01.2022 Climbing trees, digging, collecting moss for our terrarium, bird watching, running, hiding. Exploring nature. The greatest! I love you little Miss.

04.01.2022 We’ve explored the other side Scrivener Dam extensively. All through the cork forest, banks of the lake and bush land. We’ve had ongoing discussions about this Dam for 5 months. Today we had an exciting opportunity to see the Dam at its finest. We hypothesised about a flock of birds that gathered at the shore, where the water was going, what impact this gushing water would have on the wildlife, how much water is actually coming out? This opportunity gave her time to experie...nce cause and effect in motion. What had caused all the water to collect in the Dam? We talked about why the water needed to be let out and what would happen if it wasn’t. I do my best to make the most of spontaneous opportunities like this. Learning happens everywhere.

01.01.2022 Get on board and help my friend Matt. Children who are subjected to violence and abuse are in desperate need of support

01.01.2022 Absolutely love this!
