21.01.2022 WHY THE LANGUAGE WE USE TOWARDS OURSELVES & OTHERS MATTERS . Simply put everything is energy. . We are energy, animals are energy, plants are energy, material things are energy & all these different energies vibrate at different frequencies.... . Our thoughts, actions, emotions & words we speak to self & others also carry a certain vibration. They can be high, low & anywhere in between. . When we choose kind & loving thoughts towards self & others, treat ourselves & others w love & kindness, speak to ourselves & others w love & kindness & are sitting in a place of love & joy we will be vibrating at a higher frequency . We all have the ability to feel the vibration of language. Think of a time when someone said something kind to you, how did it make you feel? Good right? This is the energy you are feeling as it has a higher vibration. The opposite is true when we speak to ourselves & others unkindly, it doesn’t feel nice because the vibration is lower. This also applies to how we interact w everything in the world . To me how I speak to myself & others, treat myself & others, think of myself & others & how I chooseI to feel is something of great value to me & something that I strive to practice every day because that’s how I want to sit energetically in the world & the kind of energy I want to be putting out into the world . Do I get it perfect every day. Hell NO! On the days that I don’t, I choose kindness & love towards myself & do the best I can. 20.01.2022 SUPPORTING YOUR BODY & BABY’S NUTRITIONAL NEEDS PRE & POST PARTUM . Our bodies require certain vitamins, minerals & antioxidants to carry out different processes in the body & when we fall pregnant or are breastfeeding the demand of these vitamins, mineral & antioxidants increases which is why it is super important to focus on eating a variety of nutrient dense foods . Our caloric demand also increases as we move through the different stages of pregnancy right through to ...when we breastfeed . During the first trimester women generally don’t need any additional calories. When women move into the second trimester calorie requirements may increase above baseline needs by about 340cals, 450cals in third trimester & 500 calories while breastfeeding . It’s important to understand that these are just guidelines & things like your job, activity level, stress levels & exercise you do throughout the day can change this . I feel it is important to let your body guide you in what you need by tuning into how you feel & how your body responds to the foods you’re eating . Eating regularly throughout the day will help w maintaining consistent energy levels, mood & keep your blood sugar nice & stable . This may look like 3-4 meals a day to start but as your beautiful little human grows those meals may get smaller & increases to 5-6 times a day . For me when I work w a client whether that be in a group class or a one on one environment I believe it’s super important to understand that clients ability & what they are capable of . Understanding that we are all very unique individuals coming along to train for our own reasons & that reason is different for everyone ... . My focus is 100% towards my clients each week & know which clients to be gentle w & those that respond well to a bit of a push . When I feel & know the client is ready to challenge themselves w something new whether that’s an increase in weight or adding a bit more pace I simply suggest, step back & witness all the beautiful things that client experiences during that moment . 12.01.2022 THE IMPORTANCE OF MANAGING STRESS FOR HEALTH & WELLBEING . In this first post I’m going to talk about what happens during the stress response & why our bodies are not designed to sit in the sympathetic state 24/7. . In future posts I will go into detail of the 3 main types of stress, what they look like & solutions to help w managing them.... . The stress response is an ancient evolutionary protective mechanism designed to enable us to escape danger (think of running away from a lion ) . What happens during this process is we are moved out of our parasympathetic state (the rest & digest state & the state which we should be sitting in most of the time) & into the sympathetic state (the fight/flight state. This process begins in the brain w a perceived threat which triggers the hypothalamus, moving to the pituitary then the adrenal glands which produce cortisol. . From here the bodies non-essential processes get forgotten about cos let’s face it staying alive is more important than digesting food right about now & all the energy goes into the processes for helping us stay alive like our heart, respiratory system & liver. . This process is meant to be a short time thing & once the perceived stress or threat is no longer present the body returns to homeostasis but in today’s modern society we tend to sit in the sympathetic state (fight/flight state) most of the time & this in very simple terms is not ideal for our health & wellbeing & leads to disease . It can lead to things like hormonal imbalances, gut issues, poor immune health, adrenal fatigue, weight gain & inability to lose weight, high blood pressure, blood sugar problems, infertility, thyroid issues etc! . The empowering thing is we have the ability within ourselves & an amazing network of people out there that can help us work through managing our stress levels. It is a process that takes time, patience, commitment, love, uncomfortableness & many more things as we start to peel back the onion layers, start working on understanding ourselves & putting our health & wellbeing first & foremost but what a wonderful journey it is my friends as you will be very rewarded in doing so . 09.01.2022 The exercise I am performing here is a conventional deadlift . This is a more advanced movement but there are many other hip hinging exercises that you can do to get you strong for this lift . A super important part of this movement & many others is the ability to keep nice spinal alignment, tight lats & a strong retraction of both scapula’s... . With any exercise we can be tempted to let our ego get in the way & lift super heavy whilst compromising our form however once we have the understanding of the importance of all the little things & why they matter & focus on the form rather than the weight that’s when you will start to become stronger . Understanding that even though we are working the lower part of our body we need to be aware of the part our upper body plays too . 01.01.2022 BUILDING UP TO THE CONVENTIONAL DEADLIFT . When it comes to lifting weights there is a process.... this process requires consistency, patience & hard work . It’s understanding, trusting & staying consistent w this process & being ok w starting at the beginning & building the foundations.... an example of this would be mastering the movement pattern & being strong in a body weight squat before you hold onto a weight.... let’s say your knees were still collapsing when you... attempted a squat.... do you think it would be beneficial to load the weight up so your working super hard & getting a sweat on or more beneficial to continue to work on your squat patterns a strengthening the muscles that prevent your knees from collapsing in? . This process applies to the exercise prescription also.... knowing where the client is at w their abilities & knowing areas of weakness that need tending to in order to get them where they want to go.... but it doesn’t happen overnight... it takes time & it takes hard work! . Above I’m performing a Trap Bar Deadlift.... this is one of the many regressions to build you up to a Conventional Deadlift.... due to the design of the bar it makes the deadlift position a great deal easier to access than an Olympic bar. . The conventional deadlift requires good hip mobility, core strength, grip strength, strong lats & the ability to know how to engage them to protect the spine during the lift & strength in the posterior chain as the posterior chain is what’s working in this lift. .
