25.01.2022 ESCAPE During one stage of my life, I think I subconsciously avoided nature. Living in a big city, it’s quite easy to do. ... On some level I knew that if I was to slow down and open up, this would derail me from my focus of achieving and striving for success. Inside that wasn’t what truly mattered to me, but what I felt I needed to do, and in order to stay on track it was necessary to buckle down and eliminate distractions. I used to be quite black and white; all or nothing. This is actually a lot simpler than trying to navigate through the messy sea of greys! But this constant exploration is where we can grow and evolve. Escaping to nature allows me to connect to my true nature. It feels a bit rebellious. Society would prefer us to keep our heads down and feed the machine, earning money just to spend it in attempts to fill the void. In escaping to nature, we can face this void. I imagine the young girl in the painting escaping from the city after work, drawn to the ocean in search of guidance, comfort, connection, and meaning. Away from all the influences of society, maybe she can feel what’s really inside her. What or who do you turn to for guidance? #escape #rebellion #exploration #thevoid #escapethecity #escapetonature #oceancalling #motherocean #seekingguidance #nature #insideandoutside
19.01.2022 E X P O S E D Introducing Jennie Rutz! She is a talented Sunny Coast artist that has had a lot of people gushing over her work in our pop up shop this week! Do ...yourself a favor and check out her work in person. My work tends to have a particular focus on the feminine, perhaps due to the influence of growing up with three sisters. Although when I was young I was a dedicated tomboy, I’ve since learned to embrace the joy of being female. I’m particularly intrigued by the contrasting ideas of freedom vs entrapment, wild vs civilized, natural vs man-made, mystery vs exposure, and male vs female. While I grew up in the Canadian badlands surrounded by prairies, it's the beach that inspires me. I currently reside on the beautiful Sunshine Coast and prior to arriving in Australia I spent four years in Italy, another place that greatly inspires me and my art. My art background is in the animation industry and I've worked in a wide variety of roles and styles for television animation, illustration, and graphic design projects in Canada and abroad. In 2013 I opened my first solo exhibition in Palermo, Sicily, entitled ‘Boys & Girls, Girls, Girls‘ which featured surfing and the sea as it’s prominent theme, followed by ‘It Happened in Mondello‘ in 2014 which was a series of paintings set in the iconic beach neighborhood of Palermo. In 2015 I exhibited with RAW Artists Australia in the Gold Coast as part of the group show "BOLD" and in 2019 in Brisbane as part of the show "STELLAR". My original paintings are held in private collections in Canada, Italy, and Australia. Jennie’s work is available for purchase at the 4564 Exposure pop up shop until the 20th December. 19.01.2022 ALONE Whenever I arrive at the beach, regardless of the conditions, I feel an instant calm wash over me. My body automatically takes a deep breath, and I feel more present. The longer I stay there, the more I’m able to relax, unwind, and reconnect. It’s like time no longer exists..until suddenly it does again and I’m running late! This space without time is so important to recharge; letting go and forgetting about everyone and everything else in order to tap into something g...reater. Although when we have other people depending on us, this may not come without some guilt. Guilt for not wanting our loved ones with us every minute, guilt for forgetting them in these moments, guilt for letting go of our responsibilities as if we don’t appreciate them, guilt of self-indulgence. Unfortunately this guilt is counter-productive to all the benefits! We need to reframe this concept from frivolous self indulgence to compulsory self optimization, knowing that we’ll come back to our lives and responsibilities more clear, calm, gentle, connected, intuitive, and appreciative. This painting is titled ‘Sola’ which is the feminine adjective for ‘Alone’ in Italian. For me, the pleasures of sun on bare skin, the sound of waves, and being alone with the vast ocean are unsurpassed. How do you recharge? #sola #alone #beachlifestyle #rechargeyoursoul #selfoptimization #beachart #motherocean #guilt #selfindulgence #selfcare #beachbum
