25.01.2022 This weekend was our Timed Trial Trail Ride Event at QSSC. Everyone had a blast and I am so proud of my girl and how she went. Around trees, rocky gullys, jumps..., dam walls and lovely long canter stretches - we had a bit of everything. Shane got snippet of my run on video of us I’ll share but I also managed to video my run phone in hand today so I’ll post that to the QS forum later for the QS students to see. Well done to all of the participants for getting out there on the course at all levels! you were all amazing. See you all again next year! See more

20.01.2022 There's nothing better than seeing your horse do a mental download during a session. What did they learn?, well that doesn’t really matter, nothing they learn is right or wrong in a horses eyes. The fact he was mentally engaged is the important part. Often as horse trainers we can get real slick at the 'doing' part and we think we are making headways when in reality our horse is just tuned out or even shut down and not mentally participating. I love seeing confidence develop to be engaged and try. Thats the real learning. #vbawizard #brumby #southernbrumby #download #qshorsemanship

18.01.2022 When feeding Brumbies it can be a bit daunting knowing what to feed at first but keeping it simple is always the best option.. (CEN are great products but I'm not endorsing them, just think its a cool podcast)

18.01.2022 Somebody’s graduated from the yards to a paddock. Flame was doing great with his basics in the yard so he’s now in a paddock, as you can see he’s a bit light on so I was pretty keen for this to happen. He can be approached and rubbed all over, have his feet picked up and we have some basic yields so time to take the next step. This week we are now consolidating that in the paddock. Once he is staying soft and happy to be yielded we’ll go back to the neck rope. 18.01.2022 I would like to preface this post (because I have more words on fb than insta ) in saying that I don’t actually think any answer is necessarily right or wrong. It depends on you, your horse, your environment and even the time you have. There is nothing wrong with calling it quits and coming back to it tomorrow with a fresh outlook. It’s not about getting it right or having the upper hand, it’s all dependent on what you’re looking for. This session we didn’t have a win with t...he catching but we worked on our spirals (yes With the rope dragging...) and approach, our win was having a horse who would spiral towards me, not all the way -yet, with confidence, softness and balance. In the end that’s the important stuff. We still haven’t got the ‘catching part’ really sorted but we will get there. Just because you have something in a round yard doesn’t make it true. Sometimes #opportunities for learning just present themselves and you have a decision on what path you are going to take comes up. There are several roads I could have taken here. Do I herd him back to the yard and start again? Possibly? Do I carefully ‘creep’ up to the rope, possibly with food in hand to ‘recatch’ my horse, hmmm, maybe not. Or do we use this as an opportunity to build this little Brums confidence in being approached in a bigger area with way more options but to build a more solid outcome? yes! And it will take longer now but the #lastingchange will be worth it in the long run. #brumby #vbawizard #qshorsemanship #southernbrumby #bagobrumby

17.01.2022 The VBA have always gone above and beyond in order to ensure the safe rehoming of Brumbies from our Nationals Parks, often to their own personal detriment to maintain a relationship with NPWS and for what I’m asking now??? How many other rehoming opportunities are Parks also ignoring I wonder, if they cannot communicate with the biggest rehoming group in the country?

The summer bus...hfire season burnt more than 1.5 million acres across Victoria's Alpine National Park and surrounds. According to the WWF report, more than 3 billion animals perished during these fires. The current Population count DOES NOT reflect the impacts of the fire, thus the ABA is requesting a NEW count. 04.01.2022 Now we are all staying at home, I have time to share some Brumby love with everyone! Miss Pia came back into training last week. She is currently having to do this in my ‘big’ saddle as the one I would normally use for her is stranded in Qld! Yes it’s a little big for her short back so it’s Super, super important that I encourage her lateral softness and self carriage. For Pia this means watching her head carriage and making sure she keeps her legs under herself. So plenty of Harmony in Motion in our warm up exercises. I’m so pleased with how she is progressing, getting stronger every day!
