19.01.2022 Looking forward to a great year in 2018 providing electrical services. A large thank you to my clients so far for the wonderful support throughout 2017.

17.01.2022 Here is an interesting light replacement job I attended recently. If you have any older fluorescent lights and you notice a dark syrup looking liquid staining the light cover, please call! This liquid is a chemical leaking from the capacitor and needs attention straight away. This particular light has now been replaced with a new energy efficient option. Happy client. Happy electrician!

14.01.2022 These are traditional ceramic fuses. They are still found in a lot of homes. Three things to know. 1. They can 'blow' from a circuit fault in the home. 2. They can also 'blow' from being overloaded by too many appliances being used at the same time, and 3. It is a good idea to have your fuses labelled so you know where to look for an issue if you loose power.

13.01.2022 Main Earthing System. The main earthing system, know as an earth stake, is placed deep in the ground near the switchboard. And is an essential part of the electrical safety system. You may not notice it day to day, but its important to have its condition checked. As you can see in the photo, a recent check of a clients main earth revealed it was rusted off just under the ground level. In this condition it wont provide an adequate earth, or earthing protection. ... I'm happy to inspect you're earthing system and ensure its operating effectively, or promptly replace it as I did for this client recently. Please call or email me for help.

09.01.2022 Ever received your latest energy bill and thought how on earth did that happen? We have all had those moments before, when the bill rolls in and you just weren’t ready for the amount, or felt like you had just paid the last large bill. My advice to you is not to just pay the bill and wait for the next one, but have a look at what your consumption is and how you might manage this more efficiently. Start by getting into a habit of looking at the consumption rate. Make a note of it and track it over the coming year. Your energy bill, depending on your supplier, will help you with this by showing you a graph on your invoice depicting your energy use this quarter compared to other quarters.

07.01.2022 When we head into the cooler months, if you have any heating devices that are controlled by a dial for temperature, my tip is to run them on a low setting over a longer period of time, rather than put the dial up to a high setting for short bursts of time. You will save energy having the dial on a lower setting. Wearing a jumper is also a good idea!!

07.01.2022 IT equipment such as desktop computers can get hot when they are turned on and running, and some will have fans installed internally to help keep them cool. These fans can use a lot of power. If you have a computer with a tower, you can reduce the workload of your computer fans and reduce the power output, by ensuring your computers are not in cupboards or next to other heat producing machines. Be sure to wipe the fan area clean on a regular basis.

07.01.2022 Modern switch boards have extra safety protection via these earth leakage circuit breakers. They are also called a 'residual current safety switch'. If you have one it is best practice to test them once a month to make sure it's working well. You can test it via the TEST button. If you are not sure what to press or have tested it and it's not working, give me a call!

02.01.2022 I came across this corroded hot water cylinder recently. Some cheeky little ants had nested their way up under the cover plate - making a real big mess. Unfortunately, this one was beyond repair and had to be replaced. Keep an eye out, if you notice any activity in or around your hot water cylinder please get in contact! I am happy to have a look and clean them out before this happens. #unwantedguests #corrodedwires
