12.01.2022 I can confirm that I will be concluding my tenure as Commissioner NSW Rural Fire Service, at the end of this month. I’ve had the privilege of being a member of ...the NSW Rural Fire Service for over 35 years, starting as a volunteer before commencing employment in the organisation in 1994. The RFS has been a significant part of my life in so many ways. It's truly been an honour to serve as Commissioner for over 12 years now. I’ve enjoyed the celebrations and have tried to be there during the tough times. My heartfelt thanks to all our NSW RFS members, both salaried and volunteer, their families and employers, as well as all their fire and emergency service partners and supporters. I look forward to continuing to serve the people and Government of NSW with planning, prevention, preparedness and importantly, recovery from emergencies and disasters, in my new role as Commissioner of Resilience NSW and Deputy Secretary Emergency Management. Thank you again to everyone for your support and assistance, it’s truly and sincerely appreciated. See more

02.01.2022 IDN21033 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning... for DAMAGING WINDS, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in Hunter and parts of Mid North Coast, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains and Central West Slopes and Plains Forecast Districts. Issued at 2:57 pm Friday, 24 January 2020. STORM OUTBREAK FOR NORTHEAST NSW Plan Image Weather Situation: A low pressure trough across northeast New South Wales combined with very moist air will bring thunderstorms to parts of northeast New South Wales on Friday. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Maitland, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Narrabri and Walgett. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 6:00 pm. If severe thunderstorms develop in Sydney Newcastle Wollongong or surrounding areas, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
