23.01.2022 Jess Gough (Business Chamber President) and I had a great afternoon walking the CBD of Wellington placing the Council’s petition for more doctors at Wellington ...Hospital on local shop counters. It’s horrible that Wellington Hospital literally only has ONE doctor. It’s not good enough. *We are only around half way done. So we will be out again in the coming days finishing it off.
12.01.2022 Tonight Dubbo Regional Council accepted my recommendation and unanimously voted to appeal directly to the Premier, Health Minister and Local MP about Wellington only having 1 doctor at their hospital. Council also resolved to coordinate a community petition about the matter.
11.01.2022 Wellington’s doctor shortage is hurting our towns economic viability. At a time when we are pushing really hard for new business to move to Wellington the worst thing that can happen is for them to learn about the doctor shortage. Wellington deserves better. Our residents should have access to doctors. This isn’t an unreasonable request.
11.01.2022 THANK YOU WELLINGTON! Jess Gough and I have just been around collecting the petitions for the doctor shortage at Wellington Hospital. The response has been fant...astic. The last stop was at Wellington Information and Neighbourhood Services (WINS). The crew there were putting the final touches on their petition. Once all the petitions are in I will send them to Parliament as well as a copy to the Regional Health Enquiry.
09.01.2022 2020, What a Year. Defiantly the year of throw your plan out. I looked back at what I wrote this time last year. I was gearing up for an election, ready to gr...ow the business chamber and run more barista training. Than covid hit in March. Everyone’s world got turned up side down. Jespresso went down to one staff and takeaway overnight. All cart jobs canceled But with determination no one was going to stop us from making coffee. Definitely an essential service. June came round and I decided to open @arthurviewcafe . To help keep up with demand. It was a gamble but I’m so happy we did it. With major help from @penny.h.cook.3 and @roamerwoman the new cafe was set up in 10 days. With the rest of the year running between two cafe and a toddler the decision was made to hand over @madeinwello to the fabulous Natasha in November. So we finished the year with two businesses that employee 12 people from Wellington, another wholesale customer @cakesbyamyrutherford and building a better relationship between Wellington businesses and @dubboregionalcouncil. I’m not going to say my plan for 2021, because we know plans don’t work. But I intend for this year to be building the businesses to be run more streamline, more focus on wholesale customers, the local government council elections in September and more work with the Wellington DV collective. And I’m sure we’ll all be seeing Audrey use the till this year. Happy 2021 everyone. And thank you for everyone patronage. #jespresso #2020lookback #bringon2021 #wellingtonnsw #smallbusiness #womeninbusiness
01.01.2022 I read last weeks Dubbo Photo News with a lot of frustration. As a business owner in Wellington and the Business Chamber President, I am urging Wellington residents who may have disagreed with the council amalgamation to understand that what is done is done and there is no point in dwelling on the past or trying to re-write history. The article in the last edition titled Parks Poor Performance is a good example of dwelling on the past and trying to rewrite history.... It’s true that Cameron Park use to win awards. However that was decades ago and it’s hardly fair to point fingers at the current council for the parks decades long decline. We need to focus on the good things that have been happening in Wellington and seek to work with the council as opposed to simply throwing stones. Continual complaining without practical solutions is counter productive. Negativity leads to even more negativity. What we actually need in Wellington is a culture of working together, with a can-do attitude. This brings confidence to our town which leads to more employment and a better local economy. Things like the new pool, gigantic new facilities at the caves, million dollar upgrades at Cameron Park and almost every playground in the town being replaced is an example of good things that are happening. It’s obvious that the new council is committed to our town. You only have to see how often the mayor is in town (and our villages) to see that there is good will and commitment. That’s not to say that council gets everything right - because they don’t. But to imply that there are sinister motives at play is unfair. I really believe that the best way to get optimum benefit from the new council is to work with council and not against it. To the people who are complaining and whinging, I ask when was the last time you contacted the mayor or councillors? I’m urging the residents of Wellington to embrace our new council as there is no point looking backwards. And more importantly, try not to be fooled by people with ulterior political motives.
