24.01.2022 When speaking to your audience its important to use plain language. If you want them to listen, you have to speak how they would speak. Steer clear of lingo, jargon, flowery language or words that are longer than necessary. Sounds simple right?... The tricky bit is finding out how your target demographic speak. Identifying what kind of language they use, and honing it into your own brand voice. Get in touch and we can chat about how to speak effectively to your audience.

23.01.2022 Packaging matters people! If you have a physical product, your packaging is one of the biggest tools you have to make consumers choose your brand over another. It also influences retailers as much as consumers. Research shows that packaging affects product satisfaction, long after the point of purchase - in fact, throughout the entire product lifespan! Think of that product that makes you feel good when you get it out of the cupboard or medicine cabinet. (Its probably got something to do with the packaging.) Im going to write a blog post about this soon, so keep an eye out. If youd like to have a chat about your packaging, get in touch.

22.01.2022 Branding, marketing and advertising. Whats the difference? These terms are often misunderstood, or people think theyre one in the same. Although there is definitely crossover and blurred boundaries, theyre actually different fields.... The moral of the story is - sort out your branding first. Then work on marketing and advertising. You cant market or advertise effectively if you dont have a strong brand. @ Perth, Western Australia

22.01.2022 Website redesign or website refresh? . Your website isnt working for you, but you dont know if you need to build something from scratch, or if you can refresh what you already have. . Some issues are dealbreakers and well have to create something new - for example, your website is not responsive.... . Other times, the basic structure is there, but the design and layout need a refresh. Thats what I did for Grace and Co Gifts. Fixing the categories, the navigation, and implementing some new branding has given this site a new lease on life. A bit of SEO-friendly copy has been added for good measure! . Get in touch if you want to chat about a design refresh for your website. @ Perth, Western Australia See more

17.01.2022 Jami are a UK based mental health charity. They wanted to reach new potential clients, but their budget was small. I designed a series of postcards that could be left in public places, to allow them to reach a variety of people without a huge media spend. Read more on my website - link in bio.

17.01.2022 Umm... how did that happen?!

16.01.2022 Romantic love gets all the attention today, but lets not forget about brand love. Do your customers love your brand? Brand love = brand loyalty. And brand loyalty = repeat purchasers. How do you get people to love your brand?... You need to give them what they need, rather than what they want. Solve a problem for them. Make them feel a certain way. Connect with them emotionally. Find out what they need and give it to them. Get in touch if you want to talk more about getting your potential customers to connect with your brand. And happy Valentines Day!

15.01.2022 I love creating branding for startups and new businesses. It's a blank slate, and the world is your oyster! I see a lot of people at this stage getting ahead of themselves, jumping into having a logo designed. I totally get it it's really exciting and you want to get started! However it's really important to take a bit of time at the beginning. Do some research. Do some thinking. Really work out who your target audience is, and why your brand is differen...t to any other. Otherwise you run the risk of your branding missing the mark, or being ineffective. That's where I can help. I take new businesses through a process of brand development, making sure that we tell their brand story effectively. So if you have a startup, a new business, or just an idea get in touch and we can have a chat! See more

15.01.2022 Every time a brand makes a mistake and produces content that isnt well received by their audience, you can be sure to hear someone yelling from the sidelines but all publicity is good publicity! To this I say, the 1950s called and it wants its marketing back! There is absolutely such a thing as bad publicity, and heres a few reasons why.... The bottom line. Gaffes such as these usually cause a drop in sales, and for a publicly listed company, a drop in stock price. I often hear the argument but it will come back up again! At least people are talking about them! Sure, it may come back up again. But wouldnt it be better if it didnt drop in the first place? These losses will reduce the companys ROI or lose them money overall. It will take time to recover. Moral reasons. These mistakes are often due to the advert or content causing offence. I believe that both creatives and companies have a moral obligation to make the world and the industry a better place. Theres always a more clever way to tell your story than producing something that causes hurt. The clever way is always more effective. Not only will a positive solution be safer, it will be more effective on your bottom line. Brand love equals brand loyalty equals repeat purchasers. So how do you stop these mistakes or faux pas from occurring? Research baby! Research your target demographic. Get to know them. Talk to them. And listen to them. Diversity! So many agencies and companies have a bunch of white men at the top. Its usually not intentional malice, but its no wonder that they dont foresee issues. Note: as well as diversity you also need an environment where everyone is confident to speak their mind. User testing. Run your content by your audience. Ask their opinion. Build strong brand values and a brand essence. Hold all your content up against these. Does it align? All brands make mistakes from time to time - its gonna happen. This aint a science! The best way to deal is to apologise, fix any wrongs and move on. But definitely dont view these mistakes as positive publicity. Learn from them and grow your brand in a positive way. @ Perth, Western Australia See more

14.01.2022 I love sharing my knowledge, so I've created a resources and freebies page on my site https://jessicacroome.com/freebies-and-resources/ The first addition is a Brand Personality Slider. This a great tool to use if your brand is new and you're trying to define your tone of voice. It's also useful if your existing branding has gone astray, or if your messaging is unclear or too broad. Defining your brand personality will allow you to create messaging that is effective and con...cise. Hit up my website to download the exercise for free!

12.01.2022 I love me a shit hot logo as much as the next designer. Were a funny bunch like that. But a logo is not a brand. Its part of a brand. Its important. But its not the first thing you should be thinking about.... A brand is created in the consumers mind. Its something thats felt, rather than seen. Its influenced by soooo many factors - logo, visual identity, website, marketing, signage, reputation, customer service, product experience, online reviews - and the list goes on. Its important to take a step back and think of what you want your brand to be, what you want your brand to represent, and who you want to engage with, BEFORE you have a logo designed. A good designer (*cough cough* - like myself!) will help guide you through this process. If you need a logo designed, or a logo re-designed, get in touch and lets chat.

12.01.2022 I cant begin this year without mentioning the devastating fires raging on the east coast. Although Im on the other side of the country and not personally affected, its incredibly heartbreaking. Its difficult not to feel helpless at times like this, so I try to think of the small, positive actions I can take. So far, Ive donated money to a few charities, and written to my local MP about the type of climate change, fire and land management policies Id like to see going fo...rward. Any other suggestions for things we can do as individuals? My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones. There are no words. And those who have lost homes. We are all grieving the huge loss of wildlife too. Huge thanks to all the fire fighters, volunteers and aid workers who are helping on the front line - what superheroes you are. If you want to donate too, heres a few ideas - theyre all doing great work: @redcrossau @wwf_australia @nswrfs @foodbankaus

12.01.2022 People sell. Sex sells. Outrageous offers sell. Personality sells. Low prices sell. High prices sell. Personal stories sell. Content sells. There are a lot of things that sell that get bandied about. All of these can be true, in a particular situation. But theyre definitely not blanket truths. But theres something that underpins all of these sometimes-truths...... Emotional connection sells! Thats the blanket truth. Im not just saying it. Research shows that the majority of purchasing decisions are driven by emotion. 80% - 95% depending on the study. That doesnt mean you have to make people cry. Its all about finding out who your target audience are, and what drives them. What are their challenges? How can you help them? How do they feel? How do they want to feel? You can connect (and sell) through a multitude of emotional connections. Humour, relief, sense of control, like-mindedness, motivation, inspiration, philanthropy, empathy, sense of security, achievement, joy, fun, adventure, aspiration. And the list goes on. I can help you work out which direction is right for your product or service. You can also use fear and shame, but lets all agree to not use these - as we have integrity, and a moral obligation to better the industry. Theres always a more clever way. Dont be a dick, alright?!

11.01.2022 How often do you stop to consider your target audience? Do you know who they are? What theyre doing? What theyre thinking? What gets them out of bed in the morning? These are the questions you need to consider before delving into any piece of branding or communication. You need to get super specific, narrowing your audience down to one ideal customer. Then speak to that person. ... If you get it right, thats where the magic happens. I can help you identify and speak to your target audience. Get in touch and lets have a chat.

08.01.2022 New project dropped! This is the fourth year running that I've designed the London Horror Festival programme, and the festival gets better every time. @londonhorrorfestival is the UK's largest festival of live horror performance. So if you're in London, get yourself out and get some tickets. @ Perth, Western Australia

08.01.2022 Unsure about what branding actually is? Dont worry - youre not alone. Branding is one of those concepts thats a bit vague, and often misrepresented. Ive said it before and Ill say it again - a logo is not a brand. Defined by the American Marketing Association, a brand is a name, term, design or symbol, or any other feature that identifies one sellers good or service as distinct from those of other sellers. ... Sure, fair enough. But lets dig a little deeper. A brand is an idea or perception, created in the consumers mind, about a particular product, service, company, organisation or person. This idea is the result of many different brand touch points. These are things such as design, logo, website, word-of-mouth, reputation, customer service, product experience etc. The curation of these brand touch points to achieve a certain result, is branding. And that, my friend, is where I come in! Branding also encompasses fields such as marketing, advertising and sales, as its impossible to market or advertise effectively without a strong brand. Without a strong brand, youre just a commodity that can be outdone at any time by a competitor with a cheaper price or a faster turnaround. If you want to chat more about branding, your brand, or anything else, get in touch! @ Perth, Western Australia See more

06.01.2022 I dont really do New Years resolutions. I do 300dpi or 72dpi all year round (Bit of designer humour for you there... badum-ching!) Hilarious jokes aside, it is nice to have had some time off to clear my head, and come back feeling refreshed. So, lets get into it!

06.01.2022 Hey everyone! Id like you to meet the newest addition to my logo family - The Smokery Shed. Fi @thesmokeryshed was after a logo revamp. Something that would make her existing business look slick, and show off her main products - nuts. The Smokery Shed do bespoke catering and bar snacks. Fi smokes all the products herself from her shed in her back yard. She also wants to make outdoor cooking more accessible, and get more women into smoking their own foods. How awesome is that...?! Fi is located in the U.K. and Im in Perth, Australia. Thanks to modern technology Im able to work with clients anywhere in the world. I loved creating this logo, and working with such a cool client with an exciting vision. If you need to revamp your existing brand, get in touch and lets have a chat. @ Perth, Western Australia

06.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone! Hope you all have excellent weekends planned. Heres a little blackletter typography play to celebrate. Blackletter was a script used commonly throughout Europe from approximately 1150AD until the 17th Century. It was developed from the labour intensive Carolingian, as the population became increasingly literate, and books and texts needed to be produced faster. It was used to produce religious works, as well as books on law, grammar and history. These days its used by graphic designers in Perth to create Thank God Its Friday posts on social media

05.01.2022 In a perfect world, Tim Tams would be good for us, sleeping in would be obligatory, and customers would automatically know all about our great business offerings. But unfortunately, customers are not mind readers. You have to tell them who you are, what you do, and what you stand for. You need to be clear, specific and single-minded. So often I speak to clients for the first time, I find out they have an amazing brand story. But it's not being communicated through their brand...ing, website or social media. I get it doing this stuff is really time consuming. And it's not everyone's cup of tea. That's why it's important to invest in your branding and your business, so you can focus on what you do best. If your design and branding aren't communicating your story effectively, get in touch and let's have a chat.
