22.01.2022 Hydrangeas remind me of my gran’s weatherboard house in Bayview with the wraparound verandah and her dressing table drawer, filled with Estee Lauder lipsticks and a big powder puff.
09.01.2022 Stages of a painting. I thought I’d show this painting as it progresses. This is the tonal underpainting. The flowers have quite a bit of detail now, and the figure and birds are still emerging. It all starts out a giddy mess, but it’ll start making more sense as I lay down the colour. The sketch is always resolved before I begin, but I rarely have a clear plan for colour. As I muddle along, one colour invites the next one in.
