25.01.2022 Incorrect vs Correct Technique of the Push-Up. This seems like such a simple exercise, however I come across poor form numerous times. Correct execution o...f technique is something I am so passionate about, because it helps avoid the risk of injury, and it allows the correct muscles to work! As you can see in the image below, my spine is in lumbar extension and my chest is up. This is the position I kept my body in while doing the push up. What does this POSITION do to my body? Causes unnecessary strain to my Lumbar Spine and takes away from working my chest muscles. Why does this occur? One of many reasons: Core is not switched on Lack upper body strength Incorrect Position of hands If you find yourself dipping your hips in the push-up, that is okay! Here are a few tips to help you out : Revert to Push-ups on your knees... There is no point doing an exercise if technique is poor. Focus on pulling your belly into your spine Tuck your pelvis slightly under Place hands firmly on the floor, and under your shoulders When you descend toward the ground, keep your elbows in a slight diagonal position and lean slightly forward. When you Push back up, you should move as one unit. THIS IS THE PART OF THE MOVEMENT where your CORE is super important! - Shannon Club Manager

19.01.2022 Clasping your hands together in a plank is one of the most common things I see people do, myself included. When we clasp our hands together, it takes away from working our abdominal muscles to it's full capacity. & it makes the plank a lot easier! So, how do we ensure we are activating our core to its true potential? ... Keep your forearms on the floor with elbows aligned below shoulders and arms parallel to your body at shoulder width. There should be a slight 'puff' in your thoracic spine (pushing up from the ground). You also want to activate your legs by pushing your heels back, & squeezing your glutes a little. You may not be able to hold the plank for as long, however you could do shorter intervals with more sets and achieve far better results, than holding a plank for 2 minutes with minimal core activation, and brace. Try it next time you are in the gym, and let us know if you feel a difference in core activation!? Make it an amazing day, Shan
