24.01.2022 Lobelia gibbosa growing in the bushland near the cave. It typically blooms from November to March, so it'll be popping up soon! The dainty orchids and other wildflowers blossoming around the cave change almost on a weekly basis, as certain flowers only bloom for a handful of days each year. So it doesn't matter when you last visited, it's always worth taking a bush walk after your cave tour!

23.01.2022 These dudes are the funkiest, twistiest formations out there ...And they're called helictites. Gravity means stalactites and straws grow straight down, but these oddballs grow in any direction they please, which had early cave guides stumped. 'Cave mysteries,' they called 'em. It's now agreed that helictites are the result of capillary forces acting on tiny water droplets. A straw gets blocked, and the tiny droplet of solution just goes where ever it can - and sometimes tha...t's sideways. At Jewel Cave you'll see zillions* of helictites, twisted into all kinds of shapes. Just another wonder in our beautiful, ancient cave. @timcampbellphoto *too many to count

19.01.2022 Cave diapers and how they relate to cave conservation It's a privilege to enter a million-year-old cave, but with that privilege comes a really important responsibility - conserving and protecting the natural beauty of the crystal wonderland. In recent years we have made some significant progress with the installation of boardwalk diapers, which catch and collect the dirt, lint and other foreign matter from the boardwalk, which is then later collected and removed from th...e cave. Every three months the CATS (Conservation And Technical Services) team and cave guides vacuum the entire boardwalk system to again remove any foreign matter that has been transported into the cave. This is just a taste of what the team does - much also goes on above ground too. Stay tuned for more information and feel free to ask your tour guide - they're all passionate about cave conservation and proud of the CATS team's work PS - booking ahead is really important right now, as we're running smaller tours. Book your spot on an 'unmissable' Jewel Cave tour - https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/jewel-cave/

18.01.2022 "The cave is incredible, and the tour guide so knowledgeable and passionate about the cave and its protection. There are several fantastic photo opportunities and some wonderful crystal formations. Definitely worth a visit." - 5 Google review. It's true, we all love the caves. We're passionate about preserving the caves and the local flora and fauna - did you know we're in a biodiversity hotspot with over 7,000 species of flora?! More than 70% of those are unique to this re...gion! If you're visiting, we'd love to have you hop on a tour. All funds are reinvested in protecting and maintaining the caves and facilities. Book ahead to avoid missing out, especially while we're running smaller groups due to social distancing! You can book online at our website or by calling us. @squadnunes

16.01.2022 Inside our beautiful cave, nothing changes. The temperature and humidity are remarkably steady throughout the year, and the crystal formations have been in place for hundreds of thousands of years. But above ground, the rhythm of the seasons gently beats. New flowers blossom, animals nest, the days grow longer. When you visit Jewel Cave, look out for these information boards about the six seasons of the Noongar calendar. Local Wadandi cultural custodians have generously shared information about the seasons and the changes they bring.

16.01.2022 Jewel Cave is the largest tourist cave in Western Australia, and was opened to the public later than the other caves of the region. It was opened in 1959, shortly after it was explored by local settlers. We offer fully guided tours at Jewel Cave, so you can thoroughly explore this crystal-encrusted cave IG/chantelfletcher_ thank you for sharing your breathtaking photos

15.01.2022 Pictured here is Hamelin Bay, located just a short drive from Jewel Cave This beach, and its friendly stingrays, are a must-do on your South West bucket list. After you've explored the depths of Jewel Cave and its crystal formations, head up to Hamelin Bay for fine white sand and incredible azure waters. Russell Ord

15.01.2022 Is that our favourite vegetable (cauliflower) or the beautiful Boranup Forest? Use your imagination and you'll see all kinds of things in Jewel Cave, and you too can marvel at this ancient - and breathtaking - crystal karst. Even with school holidays over, we urge you to please book ahead. It's especially important while we're running smaller group tours for social distancing. Hot tip: the first and last tours of the day are the quietest, perfect if you're angling for a last minute booking! https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/jewel-cave/

14.01.2022 It is amazing to think how these stalactites and stalagmites grew drip by drip over hundreds of thousands of years. It's said that a straw stalactite might grow a centimetre every hundred years, on average, so how long must it have taken for that stalagmite to form!? Simon Phillips snapped this view of the grand chamber from the wedding platform looking back up towards the entrance. You too can join us on a fully guided Jewel Cave tour - we're open every day of the year (except Christmas Day!) from 9am. Bookings are recommended, especially at weekends. IG/simonphillipsphoto

13.01.2022 We're all nature lovers at Jewel Cave [and the other caves!] and most of us can't think of a better way to spend a day off than walking a bit of the Cape Track or checking out a forest path. Our wonderful colleague and cave guide Rusty has started documenting his wildlife finds, taking photos of the beautiful wildflowers and critters he meets on his walks over at @wildlife_forever_m_r - give him a follow! Pictured here: tremandra stelligera, motorbike frog, donkey orchid. If... you'd like to learn more about local wildflowers, please ask us! We also sell some brilliant guidebooks, and can suggest great walks depending how far you'd like to travel and what you're looking for. Instagram/wildlife_forever_m_r

12.01.2022 Take it all in - the beauty, the gravity-defying crystals, the mind-boggling timeline. This cave began developing a staggering million years ago! Yes, we're open every day.... except Christmas Day! We'd love to see you, and recommend booking ahead, especially at weekends. Hot tip: the first and last tour of the day is usually the quietest! 12.01.2022 A message about the Temporary Closure of Forest Adventures, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, Ngilgi Cave, Mammoth Cave, Lake Cave and Jewel Cave. If you have a booking for any of these attractions, between now and 5th February inclusive, the reservations team will be in contact to organise a full refund. South West WA is in lockdown until 6pm Friday 5th February, and as a result, these attractions will be temporarily closed. We are very much looking forwa...rd to welcoming everyone back soon, but in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact our team on (08) 9757 7411 with any questions you might have. Thanks for your patience, and we look forward to seeing you in the Margaret River region soon.

11.01.2022 Not only is Jewel Cave BIG, it's deep as well. There are plenty of stairs as we make our way through the cave, but we take our time and stop for plenty of photos and stories along the way. Being the year to #HolidayAtHome, the tours have been quite busy plus we're running with smaller groups, so booking in advance is recommended. Pop over to our website to book your tour ... 10.01.2022 Imagine meeting this ferocious beast in the forest! It'd be game over Fossilised Tasmanian Tigers and their footprints were found in the cave. Now extinct, the Tassie Tigers, or Thylacine, were the world's largest carnivorous marsupial, and you can hear stories of these amazing creatures on a guided tour of Jewel Cave. If you're fascinated by the ancient megafauna that once roamed Western Australia we seriously recommend visiting Mammoth Cave too - one of the most important paleontological sites in the state. Thanks to @jessica.austin33 for tagging us in your ripper photos!

09.01.2022 And THIS view is just the beginning! Once you've walked down the first flight of stairs, this is the magical view that greets you as you enter Jewel Cave. A massive cavern, big enough to house mainland Australia's tallest lighthouse, albeit on its side, all decorated with thousands of delicate crystal formations. You can experience Jewel Cave of a fully guided tour, which depart throughout the day. Please book ahead to avoid disappointment - due to social distancing we're taking less than half the usual number of guests on each tour, so the sessions are filling up quickly! Call us on 9780 5911 or click the link below to book your tickets online. We look forward to welcoming you! https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/jewel-cave/

07.01.2022 Hangin' out at Jewel Cave IG/mrfunanimous We're running much smaller group tours at the moment [thanks covid!] and while it makes it much more important that you book ahead* to avoid missing out, it's really cool getting to explore the cave with just a handful of people. There's way more time for stories and chats, we could definitely get used to it! *bookings are an excellent idea - give us a call on 9757 7411 or visit our website to reserve your tickets...... https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/jewel-cave/

05.01.2022 Jewel Cave formed around a million years ago, and is intricately decorated with crystals that are 500,000 years old. The cave sits in the Leeuwin- Naturaliste Ridge, which has more than 100 other caves. We're fortunate enough to be able to visit a few of these caves, and apart from Jewel Cave, there is also Mammoth Cave, Ngilgi Cave and Lake Cave. All are unique, so it's worth visiting a few if you have a chance. Bookings are advisable, particularly during the school holidays- booking link below. www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/jewel-cave

05.01.2022 How's this for a scenic coffee spot? The Jewel Cave Cafe is a great place to grab a warm or cold drink, a snack or lunch with a beautiful view of Australian native bush land. There are always yummy baked goods being prepared, and great coffee Before or after your cave tour, park up here and relax to the sound of birds chirping, and soak up the remaining sunshine before winter hits.

05.01.2022 "Beautiful place to visit with a family. The staff are phenomenal and the tour guide we had (Jackson) was insanely good at what he does. His knowledge of the cave was exceptional and his humour made it a brilliant experience for all. Well worth a visit!!" - another lovely review from one of our guests this week! The whole team here at Jewel Cave love coming to work each day - we show happy holiday makers around one of Australia's natural wonders, the amazing Jewel Cave. It's ...an absolute privilege. One thing we do recommend at the moment is booking ahead. We're running much smaller tours at the moment so we can maintain appropriate social distancing, which means the tours do fill up quickly. On the positive side, the tours are even better - we seem to have more time to share cave stories!! Big thanks to @aaroni for sharing this awesome photo of the main chamber from the cave entrance... THIS is the grand sight as you enter!

04.01.2022 Jewel Cave had a huge lake back when it was discovered back in 1957. So big, the gentlemen who first explored it floated along on tiny rafts. We couldn't access this part of the cave on tours for a long time. Around 1980 the water level started to decline, along with the famous reflections. You'll get a glimpse into what those beautiful water reflections were like, as coloured lights reflect on the stalactite ceiling. We're running smaller group tours at the moment, to comply with social distancing rules. Therefore tours are filling up quicker than ever, and we highly recommend booking ahead to guarantee a spot on tour. Call us on 9780 5911 or hop to our website to book. Can't wait to see you at Jewel Cave soon! https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/jewel-cave/

02.01.2022 One thing we love about Jewel Cave is that we can easily enter the cave without getting wet, thanks to the covered walkway linking the shop and cave entrance. It's really handy during the downpours, while the forest is having a well needed drink! So, remember us if it's raining and pouring - you can enjoy lunch or a hot chocolate in the cafe, with a view of the forest, then saunter (rain free) into the cave when the tour begins. We're open every day from 9am with tours de...parting hourly from 9.30am. Bookings are a very good idea, to avoid a wait! IG/sberry_wong

01.01.2022 When you're craving an adventure, it doesn't get better than heading deep south to Cape Leeuwin, Augusta, Hamelin Bay and Jewel Cave. Wild seas, rugged landscapes, pristine beaches and jewelled crystal caves... not to mention forests where ferocious flesh-eating megafauna once preyed! (Don't worry, kids, they've been extinct for years, we'll show you the fossils...) C'mon down for an adventure, just like @miss4n6chk - thanks for sharing your epic straw'n'pendulite piccie!
