20.01.2022 Thought I’d share with you where I write!

20.01.2022 I've been M.I.A. Here's why. Note: longish 2 part blog post series, not entirely writing focused. https://jfgibson.com.au/recalibrate-part-1/

18.01.2022 Quick check in on where I’m at with the rewrite. Spoiler: slowly!

17.01.2022 Reviews like this are seriously the best thing ever! Thank you! (via Goodreads) "The characters were well developed and unfurled at a teasingly perfect pace. Interactions remained relatable and real, easily allowing the reader to absorb the story line and small-town environment. Gibson deftly conveyed the narcissistic tendencies and naivety of youth, trying to find themselves in the world. Tom and Stella were enjoyable, heart-warming characters who represented the authentic g...oodness of country people, and while Laura was complicated, it was satisfying to see her development. Every country town generally has a Mrs Hatfield, at 90 years old, the self-appointed town gossip and wanna-be Mrs Marple was a delightful distraction and added a sense of intrigue. The writing was intentionally slow paced to allow the reader to go on Laura’s personal, complex journey, however the story remained gripping thanks to the authors natural flair for dialogue and constant simmering tension which drove the story towards to a powerful and unexpected ending. Gibson sensitively provided the audience with a sense of understanding about the pressures on young people suffering from depression and mental health issues in rural areas. There was an enjoyable mystery slant to the novel amongst the depths of grief, loss and love as the author moved the reader through conflicting issues, past and present and the impacts on family and friendships." --- SammyMac (Goodreads) https://www.goodreads.com///49607982-the-memories-we-hide

16.01.2022 I went to see the movie adaptation of Jane Harper’s The Dry on the weekend. As with all adaptations I’m always a bit ‘it will never do the book justice’, but I can honestly say it was fantastic. The acting, the setting, the ambience; it was all brilliant and the storyline was true to the novel. The screenwriters did a superb job. If you’re weighing up whether or not to see it, - in the words of Molly Meldrum - ‘do yourself a favour’ and go! PS Eric Bana was great, but the supporting cast were equally as good, particularly Matt Nable as Grant. He’s one of Australia’s most underrated actors in my opinion.

16.01.2022 What are you up to this weekend? I’m just chilling on the banks of the Murray River.

08.01.2022 I have a new binge obsession. Cobra Kai! I might be a little late to the party (season 1 premiered 2018), but I'm loving it. If you loved the Karate Kid (original movie from 1984) you have to check it out. Have you seen it? What are you binging at the moment?

06.01.2022 Happy publication day to Pamela Hart with The Charleston Scandal. I'm looking forward to this one. You can also catch Pemala on the Writes4Women podcast and hear more about the book.

05.01.2022 Back to it! I feel a bit repetitive doing these daily vids, but one thing it does show is how much work goes into writing a bloody novel! Sometimes it’s like groundhog day. But I love it. Hope you have a great day whatever it is you’re doing.

02.01.2022 I’ve been baking today. This is the best chocolate cake ever. I’ll be sharing the recipe soon! #watchthisspace
