24.01.2022 Great work NSW Health! A very informative press conference regarding the critical role our respiratory physiotherapists have in the acute management and rehabilitation of patients fighting COVID-19 in our hospitals.

22.01.2022 Happy New Years Day to all! A beautiful sunset to wrap up a new day in a new year. Farewell 2020 and a huge welcome to 2021 - looking forward to the coming weeks as Jockey, Horse & Hound Physiotherapy evolves and grows. A few more days of holidays left to enjoy before I get back to work. My thoughts are with my peers, colleagues, friends and family in Ireland and in the UK, all under another lockdown for the New Year . Grateful too for the freedoms we currently have in Australia. Also very, very grateful for my own hounds, dear husband and family and all of my wonderful clients with their wonderful animals, of all shapes and sizes. Happy New Years Day, from our family to yours, the 2, 3 and 4 legged all included of course! #happynewyear #welcome2021 #farewell2020 #choosephysio

22.01.2022 Saturday night after an afternoon of trail running, 23km How great is it not to be limited by 5 or 25km bubbles and no time limits! A surprise find at my local bus shelter book library - a beautiful book by the esteemed Dr Andrew McLean - what a find So, I ran the 4km home with a big book under my arm, as you do ... Saturday night sorted with my book and a glass of nice red Hope you are all having a lovely weekend! See more

21.01.2022 Reflecting on a fantastic @physioaustralia online lecture last night on saddle fitting for the horse, with thanks to Maddie @phy.sioforall and Colleen Meyer @saddlesage. A reminder that the process of saddle fitting must be Horse centric A reminder too that the Horse did not evolve to be a load bearer, i.e. Mother Nature did not design Horses with riders in mind Saddle fitting is so complex! The saddle needs to fit two species in motion, at the same time All too ofte...n, we get saddle fitting wrong, with devastating consequences for the Horse Saddles need to allow the Horse to move unimpeded - allow the back to lift and hindlimbs to come under and engage. Without this, performance and welfare is compromised And so we have a responsibility towards our beautiful horses to care for them and strive for the best saddle fit possible Let the horse decide which saddle is best for him or her #saddlefit #horseandrider #equestrian #equestrianlife #equestrianphysio #apaphysio #saddle #equinebiomechanics #equinewelfare See more

19.01.2022 Sunday walk with my family, two and four legged, successfully dodging the rain showers which seemed to last all day. Grateful to have these lovely quiet dirt roads within our stage 4 lockdown bubble. Half ways there, Melbourne, we got this!

18.01.2022 A great article, although the details within are somewhat specific to the UK. The title of Physiotherapist is also protected in Australia under AHPRA 'The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency'. The title of Physiotherapist can only be used by qualified AND registered physiotherapists. Did you know that you can search for the name of your physiotherapist on the AHPRA register @ https://www.ahpra.gov.au/ . If their name isn't on there, then they are not registered and therefore not entitled to use the protected title of physiotherapist. It takes commitment to lifelong learning, and commitment to professionalism to achieve and maintain registration as a physiotherapist #acpat #choosephysio #physiotherapist #animalphysio #physio #profession

17.01.2022 Waiting... Waiting.... For stage 4 to end.... What a beautiful day Melbourne!

17.01.2022 Amazing work from the team at The Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital in Liverpool, UK, home of my MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy at Liverpool University. Duncan the pony was unfortunately diagnosed with a hip dislocation, an unusual and catastrophic injury for a horse or pony. With small animal vets and equine vets working together to perform a total hip replacement in a pony, and veterinary physiotherapists to guide the rehabilitation process alongside the veterinary team - a wonderful outcome for Duncan! #choosephysio #acpat

16.01.2022 And that's a wrap for 2020! JHH Physiotherapy is officially signing out! What a crazy year it has been, such a busy start to the year and then all the COVID ups and downs to navigate, what a crazy time it has been for everyone. It has been a great few weeks since lockdown eased (what a relief - I don't think we will ever take the areas outside of our 5km bubbles for granted again!) and we are very glad holiday time is here! Off to the High Country with these two excited hounds and one ready for a good break husband! Looking forward to a fresh start in 2021 and we will have some exciting news to share then. In the mean time, enjoy the build up to Christmas everyone and to our wonderful clients, thank you for your much appreciated support!

15.01.2022 Another chapter in life closes, leaving room to explore new chapters and adventures. I am sad to be leaving my 'Charlie's Angels' chronic pain management team behind, but I have my new super large keep cup to take on the road with me for my next adventure. Farewell to my team and friends at Epworth, I have learnt so much about chronic pain management and rehabilitation there over the past 2.5 years . So, here we go now, full time on the road with Jockey, Horse & Hound Physiotherapy. Watch this space, more news about our services coming very soon!

15.01.2022 This image from Explain Pain Supercharged book @noigroup illustrates nicely why it takes four years of training to become a fresh new grad physiotherapist... Then we start working and the real learning curve comes as we work with patients on a daily basis, hearing their stories, working collaboratively to help address their problems and striving to achieve their goals and your goals - which are our goals at the end of the day! For those who choose to specialise in anim...al physiotherapy, this is followed by another 2 to 3 years of post graduate study to learn to apply our knowledge gained from human physiotherapy to our beloved animals. There is a whole hidden iceberg of knowledge informing: when to do that stretch? or that manual therapy technique? when to move and when to rest? what electrotherapy technique might help and what's a waste of time and precious $? when to speed up and when to slow down... #choosephysio #acpatphysio #explainpainsupercharged See more

14.01.2022 Physiotherapy has such a critical role to play in both the survival of patients dealing with the effects of COVID-19 in our intensive care units as well as in the recovery journey after. With survivors spending up to four weeks in the ICU setting, there is a long road to recovery ahead when these folks make it out of hospital. A nice video here showing where physiotherapists work in settings you might not expect to find them in! #choosephysio

11.01.2022 Reflecting on last nights APA lecture online - the Achilles tendon - management of ruptures and tendinopathies, to operate or not to operate? A fascinating presentation and lots of food for thought from my cross species perspective for how to translate this knowledge to manage our animal patients with achilles tendon tears and tendinopathies. This is what I love about working with both humans and animals - knowledge translation. There is a huge amount of high quality ...research available informing best practice in human medicine and physiotherapy - there is alot to learn with respect to our animal patients and how best to manage these from both a medical and physiotherapy perspective. Key take home messages: Early intervention (for surgery or conservative management) is so important - don't delay in referral to a specialist orthopaedic doctor or vet Percutaneous approach for surgery Careful management and control of range of motion of the joint is critical for the first 3 months of recovery and rehabilitation - Grade 3 and 4 orthoses Conservative management requires intensive physiotherapy and commitment from the patient (or guardian!) to see optimal results Week 8 to 12 is a time to take care with management of load to avoid risk or re-rupture No explosive movements for at least 6 months Yes, 6 months! No dog parks or off lead ! Promising evidence for PRP and shock wave therapy so worth considering these for tendinopathy. Considering research shows that the complication rate for management of canine achilles ruptures is over 40% , I think there is a lot that we can do from a physiotherapy perspective to optimise outcomes for our canine clients #apaphysio #choosephysio #acpat #achilles #achillesrupture #australianphysiotherapyassociation tion #animalphysio #vetphysio #knowledge #veterinaryphysio #vetphysio #multidisciplinary #dogphysio #canine #canineathletes See more

10.01.2022 Really super presentation on Canine Achilles mechanism injury and management - thank you to Dr Naomi Boyd from @sash_vets and the APA @physioaustralia for hosting - really informative and thought provoking. 09.01.2022 # coming soon # A busy weekend creating our online database of canine physiotherapy exercises, thank you for your help today Taabi and Josh!

09.01.2022 Did you know that this is National Pain Week? Pain is: A normal, personal and very real experience Protective - the purpose of pain is in keeping you safe... Often not directly related to the severity of your injury The brain has a BIG role to play in your pain experience In fact, no brain = no pain! You can have pain without an injury... You can have an injury without pain... Emotions are highly likely to affect your pain experience Chronic pain - pain that is persistent and continues beyond the normal expected healing time frame for a particular injury To help manage & improve persistent pain, a different approach is needed, a holistic approach to therapy, often with a multi-disciplinary team (think physio, occupational therapy, medical team and psychology) At least 1 in 5 people are dealing with chronic pain With courage, the right team support and a willingness to embrace a change in approach - persistent pain can improve! 08.01.2022 Just 30 minutes a day... Two sets of 15 minutes... Three sets of 10 minutes... Six sets of 5 minutes... ... Easy right?! Sometimes the simplest health care strategies are the hardest to do well and consistently... (I speak from experience!) Eat your greens Get eight hours of sleep Don't stress and worry so much... I have found that when the motivation isn't there, you just need to put your shoes on and commit to walking to the front gate or end of the driveway. Chances are that once you have done this much - you will keep going! The first steps are always the hardest to take - but the benefits to walking and simple movement are just amazing! See more

05.01.2022 A great start to the weekend with a virtual 'Coffee & Cases' catch up with clinicians across the world, discussing the condition 'acute polyradiculoneuritis' in small animals. Lots of food for thought - catching up on recent literature and treatment modalities and approaches. Such a rewarding condition to treat as a physiotherapist! #IAVRPT https://iavrpt.org/

01.01.2022 Josh is getting a little asymmetrical in his older age, at 9.5 years of ago he has a few musculoskeletal issues which we manage with Physiotherapy and aids such as therapaw boots for some old troublesome toe issues. I noticed some asymmetry during his mobility exercises so we spent some time today on manual therapy, massage and dry needling, followed by a round of therapeutic exercise. His range of motion was improved post treatment and he was able to manage a better sit for me which was nice to see! Lumbar and sacroiliac area need a little work but that's enough for one day
