17.01.2022 WE THANK OUR CAREGIVERS // This Friday, August 7, we celebrate Aged Care Employee Day - an initiative of Leading Age Services Australia. Its a celebratory event that we truly embrace as a business, simply because our five Palm Lake Care aged caring communities would be nothing without the caregivers we painstakingly select to provide all the various types of care and assistance that our residents require. It is a massive team effort to bring the level of care we do to our ve...ry grateful residents and families, and is thanks to everyone in our team - from the nurses and PCAs on our frontline, to our kitchen and admin staff, those in our laundries, the cleaners, maintenance officers and management teams that keep the wheels turning in the background. Like links in a chain, everyone plays a vital role. And then we also have all those wonderful volunteers who give up their time to help make our residents lives even brighter. While these people may not be official employees, they are another important element of this well-oiled machine. The theme of Aged Care Employee Day, #ThanksforCaring, recognises each and every team member involved in caring for the 1.3 million older Australians receiving home care or residential care services. 17.01.2022 HERE COMES TOOWOOMBA! // In previous years, Toowoomba has been a very successful location for Palm Lake Group with the popular over-50s lifestyle resort community situated in Cranley. However, by the time October rolls around, there will be a whole new Palm Lake Group community on the range Palm Lake Care Toowoomba. . Palm Lake Works project manager Mick Munro is on the team putting together this world-class aged caring community right before our eyes. As Mick explains, Pal...m Lake Care Toowoombas designers took full advantage of the expansive site which allows for a sprawling layout featuring six ground-level wings or neighbourhoods as they will be called. One of these neighbourhoods will be dedicated to a special 24-suite secure memory support unit for residents with dementia. Each of the neighbourhoods will then be connected to a main pavilion area. With a soaring 5.5-metre ceiling height, Mick says this reception pavilion will provide a grand and opulent welcome fitting this luxury aged care community. . The definite silver lining in 2020 has been our ever-increasing knowledge of technology and how it can keep us connected.

16.01.2022 FLOWER POWER // Check out this floral wonder that brightened Palm Lake Care Bethania recently. Completed by some very crafty residents during their regular craft classes, it was an ode to the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. Lifestyle Team coordinator Amber is as crafty and creative as they come which is a bonus for Amber's residents. Amber says: "Puzzles, word games, board games, adult colouring and crafting are all great mindfulness activities that enable us to escape from pain and worry as well as giving us joy and a great sense of accomplishment when we can sit back and look at the amazing work that has been completed."

16.01.2022 Cultural days are enjoyed right across our aged caring communities as a way to continually educate and celebrate with our residents. The New Zealand cultural day at Palm Lake Care Bargara was a recent hit. Visiting performers demonstrated a powerful Haka which really impressed.

Transitioning from my previous role as Palm Lake Cares Clinical Governance Manager gives me a solid understanding of the needs of our residents, and I am looking forward to getting to know more about each individual. A hands-on professional, her time spent with the Mt Warren Park community recently re-ignited her passion for working directly with residents, representatives and caregivers which makes her an amazing permanent addition to the Mt Warren Park team. 02.01.2022 BRAVO BOYS! // After all these years, Palm Lake Care Deception Bay residents are still giving back to their local community in meaningful ways. The handy men of this beautiful centre took it upon themselves to build and donate bird and mammal boxes to support wildlife displaced by the bushfires. They have completed more than 30 boxes for Wild Care Qld and are currently the only aged caring community supporting the organisation in this way. Bravo boys!
