23.01.2022 Dylan taking his guests out at Paradise Point. The guests have already been through an ochre ceremony, as you can see by the ochre marks on their face. The story of the ochre relates to the two skin group owlets, Wodoi and Jungun, who fought and spilled each others blood. When you see Dylan he will tell you about the story and why it is so important to welcome visitors with the ochre ceremony. For tour info visit our website www.jilinyaadventures.com.au

23.01.2022 A message from the WA government: Travel to the Kimberley is now restricted.

22.01.2022 We just love this photo! These lovely visitors from Melbourne went on our Garrangaddim art site tour at the Horizontal Falls with our Jilinya guide, Robyn. They were so moved by their experience that they bought this gorgeous artwork that Robyn had just completed. This painting is called The Three Tribes and depicts the three boss Wandjina of the tribes of the Worrorra, Wanambal Gambera and Ngaranyin. ... We are stoked you had such a memorable experience, thanks for coming out. 21.01.2022 Definitely should be on your list!

21.01.2022 Earlier this week Robert Wiggan (pictured in center), a Bardi Lawman, left his home in Derby, WA Australia on a five day (12,155 mile) journey to Springfield, I...L USA. Along with representatives of the Aranda people of Central Australia, he will participate in the return of 42 culturally significant objects from the Illinois State Museum. The long journey, made possible by the efforts of @aiatsis_ Return of Cultural Heritage Project and the @ilstatemuseum will culminate with two public events on Wednesday 23 October - a 10:30am Handover Ceremony at the Illinois State Museum Research and Collections Center, and a 7pm lecture on the Return of Cultural Heritage Project at Thorne Deuel Auditorium. 20.01.2022 Dylan holds a pearl shell here, he mixed ochre and water in it to make a paste. With this hell mark all his guests and welcome them. There is a reason this is done, and it is to do with the two skin groups, Wodoi and Jungun, which all Worrorra people belong too. The light ochre belongs to Jungun, the dark ochre belongs to Wodoi. Ask Dylan on your tour about the two nightjar owlets, Wodoi and Jungun. ... Liz Jack, WAITOC See more

We start our series with Raft Point and Doubtful Bay. Comment below if there is anywhere in particular you would like to see that you wished you could have made it to this year. We will do a video on it in the coming weeks! So Broome Unique Kimberley Australia.com Western Australia Australias North West Visit Broome

17.01.2022 The crocodile is painted in caves in the Prince Regent River next to many Jilinyas (female spirit). It is significant when you think that the majority of crocodiles are born female. This is because males are only produced when the eggs in the nest are kept at a temperature between 31 and 33 degrees. Outside of these temperatures, and the eggs hatch female crocs. 15.01.2022 Congratulations to Wunambal-Gaambera people & the Unguu Rangers, on their Munurru art site tour. A fantastic opportunity to experience Wandjina culture from Wandjina people!

14.01.2022 Number Two in our 'Virtual Kimberley Series' is of the Prince Regent River and Mumbalbada (Kings Cascades) in the north of Dambimangari Country. This is an amazing river, there is so much freshwater and rock art and waterfalls here. The fishing is good and the Crocodiles are H U G E! There is so much that could be said about this place, but we will just tell you a few things.... This film was taken last Thursday, as you can see there is a fair bit of water flowing on Mambalbada (Kings Cascades). These waterfalls here are spring fed and flow virtually all year round. This Prince Regent River area in the north of Dambimangari Country is known as M U L E N D O M in the local Worrorra language. As you see from the film, the river is quite straight, and the reason for this is that the water is exploiting a fault in the geology which runs roughly southeast/ norwest. The main art cave for this area contains the three rain Wandjina's (rain always comes from the north with the monsoon season) as well as a super-sized boss Wandjina who is named Mambalbada. Mambalbada is also the Worrorra name for the Kings Cascade waterfalls.

14.01.2022 The Kimberley rock art has survived the test of time, what makes it so long lasting? Archaeologists are completing a 5 year Kimberley rock art study, and hope to answer this question and others as their research is published.

04.01.2022 Early this morning over the Yampi area on the way to Koolan Island in Dambimangari Country. Koolan Island has an iron ore mine on it, where they mine some of the highest grade iron ore in the world (the word is you could weld two rocks together). Koolan is the anglicised word for the original Worrorra name for the island Goolan which is the name of the Bluebone fish.... Prue Vaughan

01.01.2022 We do have some big tides in the Kimberley. Understanding the tides is crucial for those who live their lives by the sea up here. Thanks Quicky AKA Greg Quicke for the explanation #spacegandalf

01.01.2022 Robyn has just come back from being artist in residence at the Horizontal Falls for the last week. Shell have a break over the neap tides and then head back out. Here is one of the paintings she created whilst at the falls. Paintings are for sale direct from the artist, message us for inquiries This beauty has already been snapped up by a buyer though! Story below:... This Wandjina is Namaralee, boss Wandjina for the Worrorra People. On his shoulders sit the nightjar owlets, Wodoi and Jungun. These birds represent the two skin groups, all Wandjina people belong to one group or the other. You must marry someone from the opposite skin group, its against the law to marry someone from the same skin group. The spears represent the event where Namaralee was speared to death at Langgi. The snake is the Wungurr snake, who brings child spirits and helped the Wandjina create all the landscapes.
