24.01.2022 In recent newsletters I have been sharing some of my favourite soup recipes. The roasted cauliflower soup seems to be the best loved. I am addicted to this flavoursome potage! However, this month it’s time for a curry.

24.01.2022 As much as spring is one of the prettiest seasons in Melbourne and other states, all those delightful blossoms can be a serious health challenge. Itchy, watery eyes, scratchy throat, sneezing, running nose, headaches, hives an exhausting list of symptoms. And of course, with COVID restrictions our only main option for exercise is outside.

23.01.2022 This in one of my long-term favourites, hearty, yes, but earthy, satisfying and bursting with flavour! 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil1 onion, finely chopped3 sticks celery, finely chopped1 garlic clove, crushed500 g mixed mushrooms, chopped roughly (I prefer a majority of Swiss Brown, with a handful of button mushrooms plus some exotics such as shitake etc.)1

23.01.2022 This is one of my recent discoveries. I found a recipe in a very sadly unused recipe collection and I have adapted it just little! 250 g dried kidney beans, soaked overnight in cold water3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil1 litre vegetable stock1 red onion3 cloves garlic400 g tin of chopped organic tomatoes5 cm piece of fresh gingerSqueeze of lime or lemon juice, to tasteFor the

22.01.2022 Over the past few years I have been on an indoor plant mission! Yes, I think I may have slowly mastered the Green Thumb (thanks grandad)! My kitchen windowsill has an abundance of green leafy friends in a weird variety of shapes and sizes. And the pleasure these little friends give me each day is immeasurable.

22.01.2022 I have written extensively in many past newsletters about the effectiveness of saffron plus turmeric in combination in treating depression. A recent clinical trial involving 139 participants with persistent depression, currently taking antidepressant medication, were randomised to receive 28 mg/d of standardised saffron extract or placebo for eight weeks.

22.01.2022 Not exactly tuppence a bag, but not much more!My seed mix, which I know many of you enjoy on your muesli, oats and toasted in salads is rapidly disappearing. Before I was forced to leave my clinic, rather unhappily with Stage 4, I took three packets with me. That will do I thought.

21.01.2022 The clinic has the strictest social distancing measures in force and I am still practising on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday as usual. If preferred, virtual consultations are available both initial and follow-up sessions can be held via Skype, phone etc.

20.01.2022 The advantage of the glorious early morning sunrises over the summer months is the opportunity to start our day with a delightful touch of nature. There is a calliphony of melodious birdsong out there! Over the past few weeks instead of packing my gym bag and driving to the gym at the crack of dawn, Ive been most satisfyingly (briskly) walking my neighbourhood streets.

20.01.2022 B not stressed! Anxiety, panic, difficulty sleeping, feeling of worthlessness, little motivation these are sadly common symptoms described by stressed and tired patients. http://albertparknaturopathy.com.au/b-not-stressed-3/

14.01.2022 Given the current fragility of our beautiful nation and the subsequent sense of unease, what can we do on a micro level to help soothe the disquiet? Smile at a stranger, leave some garden flowers on your neighbours doorstep, give time to an elderly relative or friend, write a letter to a friend who is struggling, and hold open a door for an incomer.

13.01.2022 Coenzyme Q 10 and wrinkles Coenzyme Q 10(CoQ10) is a powerful anti-oxidant and has been shown to enhance the pumping action of the heart, reduces oxidation of LDL (bad cholesterol) and enhances athletic performance by increasing the production of cellular energy. But more good news. Recent studies have shown that a mere 150 mg of CoQ10 may improve the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and face. A group of people with an average age of 53 were prescribed placebo or CoQ10 ...150 mg dally for 12 weeks. Those given the CoQ10 demonstrated improvements in skin softness, firmness, elasticity and skin protection against seasonal changes, with higher doses producing more noticeable results. Beauty will always come from the inside out. But beware, not all CoQ10s are created equal. (Just like Fish Oil, B complexes, calcium, magnesium etc., etc.)The most absorbable for of CoQ10 is in an oil based capsule with added vitamin C. Never buy a tablet form. See more

12.01.2022 It has been a truly challenging year climate-wise for too many. Of course, there is so much yet to be implemented at a national level. But while we await for progressive leadership, we can all contribute in our personal and individual ways. Every action counts. So lets all consider at this time of gift giving and generosity, what we can also give to Mother Nature.

11.01.2022 Over the decades I have harped on endlessly about the importance of a good gut microflora. The positive effect on gut health, mental health, immunity, learning disorders, inflammatory diseases etc. Lets revisit the importance of probiotics and the immune system. Certain species of probiotics are specific to immune function. A combination of Lactobacillus (L) rhamnosus, L. plantarum, and L.

11.01.2022 Bendable and vegetarian seems an excellent compromise for those who want to be a little more vegetarian but dont want to go the whole hog, if youll pardon the expression! A bendatarian diet means replacing the meat-as-themain- event mentality and replacing it with eating meat as a treat, and embracing our vegetal kingdom.Given

09.01.2022 Fibromyalgia The diagnosis for fibromyalgia is a little tricky, and consequently is often misdiagnosed. It is not classified as a disease but as a syndrome of widespread muscle and joint pain. The normal criteria for diagnosis is to have 11 out of a possible 18 tender points, and is variably accompanied by fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, depression, poor memory. It is needless to say a frustrating and distressful health concern....Continue reading

08.01.2022 Reishi, Coriolus, Shitake, Cordyceps may not be mushrooms you are entirely familiar with, but this super group all help enhance the strength of the immune system and provide symptomatic relief of upper respiratory tract infections. Medicinal mushrooms provide effective, broad-spectrum treatment for a variety of acute, recurrent and chronic infections.

07.01.2022 Okay, let’s be blunt. Tracksuit pants, active gear, even the all-day PJ habit (oh dear) can help delude working from home with accessible food available 24/7, no incidental exercise such as walking to work or even just walking from the train, tram, or car park to work. No high intensive exercise due to the unavailability of gyms and personal trainers.

06.01.2022 This is an earthy soup combining the nutty celeriac and the distinctive celery to create a light but satisfying thick winterwarming dish.

05.01.2022 That is entirely untrue. A recent study (April 12, 2013) published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings has shown that Carnitine is indeed cardio-protective. This systematic review of the 13 controlled trials in 3,629 patients, involving 250 deaths, 220 cases of new heart failure, and 38 recurrent heart attacks, found that L-carnitine was associated with: Significant 27% reduction in all-cause mortality Highly significant 65% reduction in ventricular arrhythmias Significant 40% r...eduction in the development of angina Reduction in infarct size See more

04.01.2022 Jills saporous and sustaining soup! Otherwise known as pumpkin and root-vegetable soup with cinnamon and ginger. http://albertparknaturopathy.com.au/jills-saporous-and-sus/

03.01.2022 This hearty, substantial soup improves with reheating, so it benefits from being made the day before consuming. Reheat gently over low heat.

03.01.2022 While many of us now have a little extra time on our hands prior to further easing of the much-needed restrictions, lets squirrel away a little something for the approaching winter months! Lets stock our freezer with a delicious range of hearty, warming nutritious soups.

03.01.2022 As I am sure you all now know, I have become obsessed with soups recently. I have heard back from many that you particularly liked my Tuscan and mushroom soup recipes (see May newsletter). I must admit, Tuscan soup has become a staple in my place. Even better day two go borlotti beans!! Here is my latest favourite soup.

02.01.2022 New research demonstrates that art therapy practices can reduce headache frequency. A three-week pilot study involving adolescent girls aged 14 to 17 years who had experienced stress-triggered headaches or migraines participated in an intervention that combined mindfulness with art.
