25.01.2022 Most of our clocks change themselves now days - but smoke alarms lay quiet until you need them . Get a few minutes today to open it up, give it a wipe and the Hoover out the dust, and change the battery, push the test button for 5 seconds until it chirps at you (happy alarm ) and make sure they work. If it's been ten years since installation it's time to look at replacing them. ... Check out hints and tips here https://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/page.php?id=444

21.01.2022 Here's a short video summarising the upcoming bushfire season predictions. This summer is forecasted to be very different to last, with La Nna conditions favouring grass fires. It will only take a couple of warm summer days with decent winds to dry out all that lovely green grass around us right now. Grass fires start quickly, move across ground fast and change direction very quickly, making them unpredictable. It's time to start preparing your property and land around you... to reduce your risk. https://youtu.be/Xuo5NUPcJIY Thanks for the info Monaro Team Rural Fire Service

19.01.2022 Don’t be a statistic! A fire can take hold in 3 minutes, it only takes seconds to prevent one. Frayed or damaged cords can start a fire. If you have taken your electric blankets out from storage, check that your electric blanket is in good working order before use.... 17.01.2022 Keep it a metre from the heater! Last night FRNSW 338 Jindabyne responded to a house fire call in Jindabyne township. A passerby raised the alarm after hearing the smoke alarm activate, and called 000. The property had no occupants at the time. Crew entered the property with breathing apparatus to find a ski boot alight that had been drying too close to a heater after a wet day.... FF Brad Conroy, FF Teagan Molloy made the property safe with environmental monitoring, and thermal imaging before completing the job, supported by pump operator FF Stephen Bottrill and Captain David Farmer.

14.01.2022 What a huge achievement , and a well earned retirement! We have the pleasure of working closely with Chris and his team at 263, as our neighbouring station, on jobs, sharing resources and providing man power when it gets busy. Cooma is also the hub of our region and literally supplies the air we breathe. It is our breathing apparatus cylinder filling station, and without it we would have a hard time doing our job. Good luck to Jimmy and the new management team and we look... forward to working with you all more in the future! #lovethyneighbor

09.01.2022 If you need water on something we can get it wet! This is a selection of the gear we carry on our trucks, when we need to deal with Here's what we have: * 25mm percolating hose (yellow roll) - these are used for bushfire environments where we don't want the hose to burn or melt * 38mm & 70mm hose mainly for structural firefighting. We use 70mm hose to move large amounts of water over a distance and feed multiple 38mm lines ... * Vertical stand pipe (white item on the left) and hydrant bar - we use these to get water on the street at the front of your house. Typically this is coupled with the one-into-two breaching piece so we can feed more than one line. * Coupling keys (red) help us connect these hoses together because they sustain some big pressures and need some * Foam inductor - we use foam on certain types of fires, in bushfires and on fuel or oil fires, this mixes the foam to the water from the standpipe. * Branches (technical term for the bit on the end of the hose) these have an on/off switch come in 70 & 38mm sizes, and allows us to change the spray just like a garden hose * Various adapters & breaching pieces to allow us to connect to the variety of different valves, tanks and mains connections in town Yep we also carry extinguishers for the small jobs! What would you like to learn more about from our trucks? Post in the comments we'll see what we can do. Your 338 team.

08.01.2022 With warm weather this weekend we have our first period of High Fire danger for the season in the Monaro Alpine Area. Those that have been issued a Permit to Light, Use or Maintain a Fire are urged to check the special conditions within the permit and abide by those conditions. The outlook for this summer is very different to last season, with the significant grass growth through spring starting to dry out and become potential fuel. We’ll post more on this soon. ... BOM

03.01.2022 #preparedforanything thanks Raymond Terrace Fire & Rescue for going the extra mile

01.01.2022 Keep an eye on your fire. In the early hours of Monday morning P338 attended a residence in East Jindabyne with reports of smoke emitting from a residence. On arrival crews in Breathing Apparatus entered the living room to find smoke coming out of the fireplace surround. They put water on to the fire, and used the Thermal Imaging Camera to discover fire spread in to the surround and wall behind. This resulted in having to dismantle the fireplace to completely extinguish the... fire. The cause of the spread is unknown, but the residents were quick enough to make the call so we could assist before it spread further. Now is a great time to get your fireplace serviced and cleaned ready for summer, so you don't have to think about it as autumn comes around. It's also a good reminder to maintain vigilance on your fire when it's burning. Thanks to East Jindabyne Rural Fire Brigade for providing support.
