24.01.2022 Sign up for Road Safety and slow down when conditions change. Because the faster you go, the less time you have to react to unexpected dangers. #RoadSafetyF1rst #QRSW2020

24.01.2022 Braking the Cycle would like to congratulate Lauren Forwood from PCYC Ashmore, who obtained her Provisional licence in April. Lauren came to PCYC as a young person who had gone for her practical driving test previously but needed some more driving support and some more confidence! Braking the Cycle has given Lauren extra skills and confidence and now, as a P-Plater, she has the freedom to move on to the next phase in her life! Great work, Lauren and the BTC Ashmore team! #PCYCQLD #BrakingtheCycle #DrivingHours #DriverMentor #LearningtoDrive

22.01.2022 In 2019, almost one third of the lives lost on our roads were in crashes involving young adult drivers or riders. Behind every life lost, there is a story #RoadSafetyF1rst

21.01.2022 What's worse than a dead battery? Walking out into a crossing without looking up from your phone, that's what. Pop your phone in your pocket so you can cross with care.

20.01.2022 Exciting news! Thank you Motor Accident Insurance Commission for confirming funding of Braking the Cycle for a further five years!

17.01.2022 Congratulations Parisa! Our Braking the Cycle program is coming along in leaps and bounds after our COVID-19 closures with 19 P’s licences since we reopened our... program in July. Parisa is our 210th participant to obtain their licence since we started our program, and our 55th for 2020. We would be absolutely lost without our amazing volunteers, like Paul Wright pictured, to help the young people in our community get the independence they need. Keep up the great work guys.

16.01.2022 This Queensland Road Safety Week, we’re asking Queenslanders to sign up for road safety . Simply put your road safety messages on a sign, take a pic, post it with @StreetSmartsQLD or head to our website to show your involvement. #RoadSafetyF1rst https://bit.ly/2PGccWQ

14.01.2022 Remember to drive safely this long weekend.

14.01.2022 On Friday 21st May, the Queensland Volunteering Awards were held at City Hall in Brisbane. Our very own volunteer mentor driver, Ep Lammers from PCYC Logan City, was nominated for the Volunteer of the Year Award. Ep was one of three finalists, from over 100 applications! He wasn't the winner on the day, but we think he should have been! Congratulations, Ep - you have done us proud!... PCYC was also nominated for the Volunteering Impact Award, so it was a good day overall. #PCYCQLD #BrakingtheCycle #DriverMentor #VolunteeringQld

13.01.2022 A wonderful event held on Tuesday at PCYC Beenleigh designed to actively & positively engage Braking the Cycle Mentors with program participants. It was a very ...successful event with many participants connecting with mentors, what’s even more special about this is, is that our program hasn’t even started yet. Carmel the program Coordinator has worked tirelessly to onboard volunteer mentors & attract young people that are requiring assistance to attain their 100 hours of supervised driving to gain their licence. Carmel being extremely pro-active thought it would be a great idea to link both parties with each other prior to the program commencing so that when it’s ready to go the communication has already begun. To date she has already attained 14 active mentors & 35 young people that are ready to commence this extremely valuable program on September the 1st. PCYC Beenleigh will receive delivery of 2 Braking the Cycle vehicles on September the 1st (one manual & one automatic) & the journeys of both participants & mentors will begin. If you require further information in regards to the program either as a mentor or participant please contact. Carmel Kneepkens on [email protected] or (07) 3380 1777

13.01.2022 BRAKING THE CYCLE SECURES FUNDING Thanks to Motor Accident Insurance Commission who have confirmed five years of funding for PCYC Braking the Cycle!

09.01.2022 Meet Sarah Pointon, a recent graduate of the Braking the Cycle program from PCYC Sunshine Coast. Sarah is from a small country town five hours west of Brisbane where she only had a very small amount of driving experience, and hardly any experience driving in traffic! Sarah moved to attend university but had no car or adult available to supervise her for lessons. She knew she had to have regular practice to increase her confidence behind the wheel, so she approached Braking... the Cycle for help. Sarah credits her Braking the Cycle driver mentors for being calm under pressure in stressful situations and explaining the driving and road safety rules in an easy to understand way. Braking the Cycle was a safe space for Sarah, and her mentors not only taught her how to drive safely, but also gave advice and shared stories which she very much appreciates. Sarah has now finished her second year of university and has freedom and independence. Well done, Sarah! Do you have your Learner’s permit? Do you need help to get your 100 logbook hours? Contact Braking the Cycle today for more information.
