24.01.2022 Off to bed early tonight in preparation for the road trip south to Mackay Turf Club with Ceebiz Kit (Harry) and Dance Around (Jazz) both fronting up in the BM 0-55 1100m tomorrow. The 1100m looks ideal for Harry and he has been freshened for this race especially. Pietro Romeo will again ride and he will jump from barrier 2. This race may be a little short for Jazz but she was really pleasing in her first up run over 1000m and was doing her best work at the finish so it really won’t surprise to see our little feisty filly put in a great effort. Adam Sewell will take the ride and she will jump from barrier 5. I need to pinch myself with both horses drawing so well so let’s hope the long trip (by my anxious traveller standards) is well worth it.
24.01.2022 Happy dance Update - Boof has found a home pending pickup this weekend Thank you to everyone that commented and shared this post Boof is looking for a home Boofy is a 5 year old brown gelding who is now retired (last raced on Thursday June 18). He is 16+hh and packed full of love. Boof does wind suck but when he has his collar on he doesn’t and he always eats up well. He is your typical OTT who will need time to let down after racing and will require a confident rid...er/home. This horse will love the absolute heck out of you if you are looking for something to spoil and spend time with. He is good to float and shoe and is up to date with his dental. Will come with his windsucking collar for your (and my) peace of mind and I’m happy to help with transport (within reason) to the right home). He is free to a good home but as part of Racing Queensland retirement protocols - your name, contact details and where he will be kept will be recorded in his stable return so he can be tracked. I absolutely love this horse to bits and am happy to answer any questions. Located in Wulguru, Townsville. PM this page for details or call 0418 788 757. Videos in comments section were taken on Saturday June 20.
24.01.2022 Let’s hope we are saying cheers to Harry on Tuesday after he races at @mackayturfclub #jlhracing #ceebizkit #cheersbigears #winorlosewehitthebooze
21.01.2022 Just one runner at the moment today at Townsville Turf Club with Ceebiz Kit freshened up for the Class 2 Plate 1000m. Harry hasn’t been too fortunate with the barrier draw but I’m sure that Pietro Romeo knows him well enough to give him a gun ride. Unfortunately, it looks like Don’t Cheat Charlie won’t have the chance to go one better after his extremely close 2nd last start as he is first emergency and they are only starting 10 horses in his race. Good luck to everyone racing, best wishes to those using today as their last ditch effort to get into the big races on Townsville Cup Day and stay safe.
21.01.2022 One runner today at Townsville Turf Club with our main girl, Star Singer lining up in the Class 1, 1400m. Star has been super honest since she arrived to the stable but has had a few little interruptions to her preparation but this race looks like a suitable one for her and she will relish the 7 furlong trip. She will be ridden by Chelsea Jokic and will jump from barrier 10. Good luck and safe racing to everyone and fingers crossed that our track is back to tip top condition
20.01.2022 2 runners today at Townsville Turf Club with Yogi ‘Nick’s Night Out’ and Harry ‘Ceebiz Kit’ both starting at the end of the day. Yogi has been a bit disappointing on paper and it would have been nicer to have him gain a start in the Class 2, 1200m but it looks like he will have to settle on running in the 0-55 1000m. If he doesn’t perform a little better than the last two starts then we will reassess his future but fingers crossed that this beautiful son of Nicconi puts his b...est foot forward. In the tough Class 2, 1200m Harry was lucky to get a start but drew barrier 14. This probably isn’t an altogether bad thing since he tends to settle back early in his races and I have faith that he will try his heart out as he always does. It would be nice to go one better after his two last start second placings. Both horses will be ridden by Pietro Romeo. Good luck to everyone racing and stay safe
20.01.2022 Thanks to GFOUR Brand for our custom caps. Anyone that pre ordered one then please let me know and I will organise getting it to you. I only have a few spare so if anyone wants one, they are $25 #jlhracing #blueandwhiterepresent
20.01.2022 The stable is excited to have 2 runners today at Townsville Turf Club’s Townsville Cup Day! Don’t Cheat Charlie gets a run this time so is hoping to go one better than his close up 2nd last start. He loves the mile trip and will be trying hard to the finish. Dance Around (Jazz) has had foot issue after foot issue after only having an actual 3 week break in the paddock after her last start bucking display. We then nursed her for 6 weeks til she was able to be worked again and ...let me tell you, it will be a relief to see her back racing today! 1000m and an awful barrier won’t make the task easy but as long as her manners are impeccable and she pulls up fine, then it will only be onwards and upwards from here. A big gold star goes to jockey Scott Sheargold who will be putting in the hard yards to ride both of these horses well below what he is comfortable with and it’s a sacrifice that myself and the other owners really do appreciate. Good luck to everyone racing and to my many friends who have horses racing in the feature races. Good luck and keep safe
19.01.2022 Today brings a very rare trip to Mackay Turf Club with one runner - stable newcomer ‘Nick’s Night Out’ aka Yogi. Yogi has been graciously leased to me by my very close friend Peter Rowe from P.J.R Racing as he knows what a fan I am of the Nicconi breed. It will be his first run for me and will no doubt be a little under done due to not being able to have a jumpout but I’m sure he will only improve from this run. A big thank you goes to Geaney Racing and Big T (Tony Comerford...) for taking Yogi down and starting him for me as I cannot be at the races today which the control freak in me is finding very hard to handle! I’m sure he will be in safe hands though. Yogi will also race in the Abigail Sweeper ‘Riding for Abbie’ colours and I will be donating a share of any Prizemoney won to the cause. Good luck to everyone travelling and racing today.
18.01.2022 Today I made the hard and heart breaking (not even an exaggeration) decision that’s it’s time to send Charlie back to his original owner after training and leasing him for 9 months. Charles has been nothing short of a gentleman and ALWAYS put in 110% in his races no matter what class he was up against. It was time to realise it was best for him to go back to Mr Wanless and have a nice big spell and then find some much longer races that NQ can’t offer. Charlie was a prime example that it’s quite often the average racehorses that put in week in and week out that teach you the most and make you the proudest. I’ll miss you Charlos #dontcheatcharlie #tryhard #whycantwehavelongerraces #myboycharlie #bigdecisionsarehard
18.01.2022 My home track at the best time of the day
18.01.2022 Yogi has found a home Thank you so much to everyone for your messages etc and I will try and get back to everyone individually but there was literally nearly 30 people who contacted me. I hope Yogi’s new owners love him as much as we do. FREE OTT - 6 Year Old Chestnut Gelding - Located in Wulguru, Townsville. ... It’s that hardest part of training a racehorse for me where it’s time to find one a home. Yogi is looking for his new calling in life after being retired from racing. He is a 6 year old Chestnut gelding who really is a no fuss boy. Great to shoe, float, tie up etc and a gentleman all round. Nothing much phases this boy and he LOVES his food. Full disclosure - Yogi doesn’t have the best looking front fetlocks (pictured) but has been X-Rayed in late September which has shown no signs of arthritis, chips etc so it’s purely cosmetic. He has had 3 runs this prep for mediocre results so it’s been decided to do the right thing and find him a home. As per the Racing Queensland rehoming protocols - the name, contact details and address of where he will be paddocked will need to be supplied in order to trace his whereabouts. Yogi is free to a good home and I thoroughly recommend that this horse will make a lovely boy for someone after being able to be let down in a paddock for a while. Approx height is just under 16hh but not officially measured. I am happy to consider helping with transport if he is going to a super home. Call or message 0418 788 757 for more information or contact this page. Let’s find Yogi a great home just as he deserves
18.01.2022 Merry Christmas to everyone from my little team and I. The first photo sums us up in a nutshell - a goofy gelding and an unimpressed looking mare We have gone to the walker and enjoyed a swim while Smudge the pony ate her weight in green grass by the walker. I hope you all have a great day #jlhracing #littleteambighearts #publicholidaysmeannothinginhorseracing #timeforadrink
16.01.2022 Finally roped another of the next generation family into owning a racehorse with me. It’s all apart of my devious plan to have someone to pick up shit for me when I’m old and can’t bend over Thanks Harley Felix for helping patch up the stables today and I hope Yogi wins us lots of money so I don’t have to rely on zip ties to keep my yards together #jlhracing #nextgeneration #yogi #familyphoto #photobomb #nicksnightout #nephewsarethebest
15.01.2022 Super thrilled to come home with a winner after Star Singer won and Charlie ran a nice 4th. Big thanks to Jenna Edwards for riding Star work, Enrico Buonanova for walking her to the track everyday this week for me while she has been horsing like a , Chelsea Jokic for an A+ ride, Jim Fogarty for being the best ‘retired’ farrier going and her wonderful owners for giving me a chance to let Star shine again
15.01.2022 I’ve never had dreams to take over the world with training horses but I’ve always wanted to make a difference. Thank you as always to all of my supportive owners and anyone who has ever given one of my racehorses a loving home after they have retired. You all help make the difference too
15.01.2022 After a clean out of the stable this weekend with Yogi finding a new home and Chips will be going to Mt Isa, I’m left with two in the stable (plus Smudge!). So I’m going to throughly enjoy some extra time on my hands coming into summer but first we have one runner today at Townsville Turf Club. Don’t Cheat Charlie is having his first start back after a little break and while he is a much happier horse, it will be much too short for him over 1300m but he needs to have a few runs under his belt before stepping up to his pet distances. So save your money and back something in the Cox Plate instead and fingers crossed that all horses and humans have a safe and happy day.
14.01.2022 One runner tomorrow at Townsville Turf Club with my old mate, ‘Don’t Cheat Charlie’ backing up in the BM 55 1609m. Charlie has been fronting up in stronger races lately but he always seems to need to be that 2-3 lengths better than he is. No matter what though, he always tries then comes home, licks the feed bin out and looks like he hasn’t been around. Hopefully with his favourite girl, Chelsea Jokic on board, he will find those extra few lengths that he needs and be right in the finish. Good luck to all horses and humans tomorrow
12.01.2022 It’s no secret that I’m very invested in finding great homes for my racehorses after they finish racing and yesterday I was fortunate to find another for my beloved Boof. Over the weekend I received updates on some of our very favourites - Sydney Harbour The Most Handsome Horse in the World, Dossier aka Goose (now known as Leo) and Rosco (now known as Riddick). It is so wonderful to see these horses enjoying life and being loved and nurtured as they deserve. Some horses aren...’t so fortunate though and I have been following a semi local not for profit organisation called FNQ Foster Farms who specialise in re training and re homing OTTs and they really need all of the donations that they can get at the moment. I have made a small donation to them and I’m sure they would be forever grateful if they could get some more followers hence more exposure and ultimately hopefully some more donations. Go to their page and give them a follow for more information See more
12.01.2022 Finally heading off on a road trip again to Burdekin Race Club with newcomer, ‘Don’t Cheat Charlie’ having his first run for the stable. Charlie has been in the camp for just on 2 weeks and is a pleasure to have but it’s hard to say how he will go against a tough field in the BM 50 1460m. It will be a nice race to get a guide on him and learn his quirks. Charlie will be ridden by Scott Sheargold. I’m really excited to be heading off to support a great country club and it’s so encouraging to see them get great fields. Good luck to everyone racing over the weekend
11.01.2022 Two runners tomorrow at Townsville Turf Club with my old faithful, Don’t Cheat Charlie and last start winner, Star Singer lining up. Charlie came a nice 4th at Home Hill and was getting home really well so he will enjoy being back on his home track and over the mile. With nothing to lose, I’ve done some major gear changes just to experiment. It’s a hard race but I’m sure my old boy will try his best. Star Singer will be an interesting one to watch to see how she measures up ...after her strong win at Home Hill. With 16 in the race and jumping to 1300m, she won’t be wanting to be too far back in the field or she will be running up bums when it matters. I will leave it to Chelsea Jokic to navigate and am sure Star will put in a good sight too. Best of luck to everyone and safe racing to us all.
11.01.2022 One runner today at Townsville Turf Club with my own boy ‘Don’t Cheat Charlie’ starting in the BM 0-55 over a mile. Charlie has been a bit unlucky in his two starts for me but he has performed on tracks with the sting out of them before so he may be in luck today. Scott Sheargold rides Charlie work and will take the reins today. Good luck and safe racing to everyone and if you can’t make it trackside then tune in and have a ‘little’ flutter on the TAB to support the industry.
11.01.2022 JLH Racing along with McGuires Racing Stables are scouting around for trackwork riders to help lighten the load. Please share away to get the word around :)
10.01.2022 Ceebiz Kit It might be a few months between wins but don’t worry, I’ve never stopped trying. Biggest thanks to EVERYONE involved in the win and the owners for trusting me and showing patience by giving him a nice, long spell and not rushing him. It really was an unbelievable feeling for it to all come together today and he will get some of his favourite licorice tonight. Boofy also ran an improved race but still takes the cake for the unluckiest horse that I have ever trained #jlhracing #blueandwhiterepresent #ceebizkit #harry #equifixequinetherapyregular #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #patiencepaysoff #enjoythewinslearnfromlosses #townsvilleturfclub #qldisracing #sorryforscreamingsoloud #paidatidypriceonthetotetoo @ Townsville Turf Club
09.01.2022 Remember the old hanging net/baskets that were all the rage for pullers way back when (were they even popular or just in the stables I worked in?). Anyway, I found a use for mine today after doing battle with Smudge every afternoon when it’s time to put her rug on and she persists in giving me little love nips in search for her beloved licorice. Put the net on and it soon shut the little mole’s mouth up.... for now #jlhracing #smudgethepony #spoiltbosslady #pullersarehardwork #memorylane #shedrivesmecrazybutiloveher @ JLH Racing
08.01.2022 So super duper stoked with Charlie’s oh so close second day! He did all the work up front and was entitled to fold but he kept finding and grinding away. It was a pearler of a ride by Scotty and even though it wasn’t the strongest race going, I’m really proud of the horse as he has had such a long prep and put in a huge effort today #jlhracing #blueandwhiterepresent #thoughtwehadit #dontcheatcharlie #stokedwithsecond
08.01.2022 Tomorrow I make the special trip to Ewan Races with one runner, Ceebiz Kit in the Class 2, 1000m. Harry was beaten by a bee’s lip on this track last year and we will definitely be heading out to go one better this year with Pietro Romeo Jp aboard. More importantly, jockeys will wear black armbands in this race in honour of a very much loved friend of ours who passed away and has a strong family connection with Ewan races and was also a huge supporter of Oak Park Race Club. Darcy Cram loved his horse racing, loved the bush and loved his mates and he will be sadly missed but never forgotten. I hope Harry does him proud tomorrow
05.01.2022 One starter today at Townsville Turf Club with little pocket rocket ‘Fast Chips’ having his first run for me. Chips has come a long way from the hairy, scrawny horse that arrived here two months ago but I’m proud of how he has progressed and I’m sure he will only improve from today’s run in the Class 1 1000m. Scott Sheargold will ride this cheeky son of Real Saga and he will jump from barrier 8. Good luck to everyone racing and stay safe
05.01.2022 One runner today at Townsville Turf Club with last start winner Ceebiz Kit (Harry) starting in the Class 2, 1200m. It will be just under a month between runs, up in distance and carrying more weight but Harry has done everything right since he last raced and still looks a picture of dapples Pietro Romeo will again take the reins and we will cross our fingers so Harry doesn’t get a case of the dreaded second up syndrome but I’m sure he will try his best. It will be great to have patrons back on track today and hope you all back a few winners. Happy and safe racing to all
04.01.2022 I know you all love my commentary skills when I look like hitting the front and today didn’t disappoint when Harry stormed home down the outside to be beaten by half a head. I couldn’t be happier that Athol and Sue Ryan won the race though and Darcy would have been pushing them over the line as well. Thanks to the Ewan Race Club for their support in honouring Darcy today and thanks to Harry for putting in yet another great run. Long live country racing #jlhracing #ceebizkit #tryhard #secondplace #ewanraces #bugger #schnitty_express #hugyourmatesforgodssake
04.01.2022 One runner today at Townsville Turf Club with my old boy, Don’t Cheat Charlie lining up in the Class 3 1400m. Charlie is only a Class 1 horse but there is a real lack of suitable races so I was stoked when this race was split due to the large number of acceptances and am very grateful for it. The 1400m is probably too short but after his eye catching 2nd at Towers Jockey Club Inc last start, he may just be a sneaky long priced chance at running a cracker. Denicious Smith will take the ride and we jump from barrier 5. Good luck to everyone racing and I hope that all horses and humans handle this putrid humidity ok. I really feel for any jockeys having to ‘go dry’ in weather like this in order to lose weight and tip my hat to them.
04.01.2022 Sharing for a friend so please PM Peter Rowe for more info. Located in the Cairns region
04.01.2022 This week it was a pleasure to welcome a new horse and new owners to the stable. Zouvilla (aka Groovy Zouvie) has made the trip North to race and his lovely owners, the Waters family are looking forward to visiting him regularly and watching him run locally. Owners really are the backbone of the industry and it’s always a relief to find ones that are passionate and love their horses as much as I do. #jlhracing #blueandwhiterepresent #zouvilla #groovyzouvie #newhorsefeels #racehorseownership #racingqueensland
02.01.2022 One runner at Towers Jockey Club Inc today with King of the funny faces, ‘Don’t Cheat Charlie’ running in the BM 60 1400m. Charlie (like many of my hand me down horses) isn’t blessed with an abundance of amazing ability but he makes up for that with toughness which is what you need on the Towers track. I won’t say this is his last chance as he always does enough to convince me to keep him going and the truth is, he is my big goofy mate around the stables so while he is still happy to stick around then I’ll keep him here. I wish happy and safe racing to everyone today
01.01.2022 Posting for a fellow trainer ~ ‘Hawk’ is looking for a home after racing. 6 year old chestnut gelding. Retired sound OTT. Lovely temperament. Currently located in Nome. Please contact Jeffrey Caught (no use messaging me) on 0407 630 235 for more details. This horse was a personal favourite of mine and anyone that had much to do with him. Please share to help find Hawky a loving home.
