25.01.2022 Some good tips and resources here for supporting vulnerable members of our community. Many of my clients are older and depend on support from family and carers. Reach out if you know someone at risk in isolation.

22.01.2022 Exciting news! Today I am joining the Nexus Law Group as a Consulting Principal. www.nexuslawyers.com.au are a full service firm with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Newcastle. I will still be focusing on wills and estates but now working alongside a team of experienced commercial lawyers, litigators and advisors. Oh, and to keep life interesting I have also enrolled in my Master of Laws (Applied Law - Wills & Estates). Busy times ahead! ~Jayne~

22.01.2022 Just wanted to say a big thank you to Escott Aston Chartered Accountants, Riverwood for their generous donation to the Rhodes family City to Surf fundraising efforts for ChildFund Australia. I really appreciate your support and highly recommend David Aston and Michael Garcia and their team for accounting, tax and business building advice ~Jayne~ www.escottaston.com.au

21.01.2022 Rest Assured is a FREE online guide to wills and estates in NSW. Contains a very detailed guide to dealing with a loved one's estate and also the process of making a will, power of attorney or appointment of enduring guardian. This is general advice though, always get advice from an experienced lawyer for your particular circumstances. ~Jayne~ http://www.legalanswers.sl.nsw.gov.au//wills_es/index.html

21.01.2022 I am back to working from home, with regular visits to the office to see clients face to face to sign their important documents. If you are worrying about whether your Will is up to date please reach out for a free initial chat, I can help get things organised. ~Jayne~

20.01.2022 Messy, messy, messy. And the only people benefiting from all this? Yep, the lawyers. Isn't it about time to review your will? ~Jayne~ http://www.theaustralian.com.au//story-e6frg9df-1227205617

19.01.2022 Planning ahead is as simple as: 1. Prepare a Will 2. Make a Power of Attorney 3. Appoint an Enduring Guardian (but get the right advice first)... Easy to understand explanations of these documents are at http://planningaheadtools.com.au/ See more

18.01.2022 Noticed a really cheap online "deal" for pre-printed Will kits. Only$24! The last time I had to help fix a mistake in pre-printed Will it cost thousands of dollars and a whole lot of heartache. A cheap Will might seem like a good idea but getting it right is a lot better value for money. ~Jayne~ #gettherightadvice #cheapandnotsocheerful

16.01.2022 What happens if you die without a Will? Now is the time to have those difficult conversations, call me at Willis & Bowring Solicitors - 9525 8100

16.01.2022 This year I am running the City to Surf on 9 August to support my friend Melissa Rhodes-Smith and her family who are raising funds in memory of her brother Gavin Rhodes, his wife Lea and their children Jade and Manfred who died tragically in a Laos plane crash in October 2013. Mel’s family have already raised over $90K to build a 4 room pre-school in Pha-En village in the Nonghet district of the Xieng Khouang province in Laos. This village has never before had an early childh...ood facility, meaning that older children in the family stay home to look after pre-school aged children while their parents work, and they are unable to attend school. This is a much needed resource. Mel and her family are continuing to raise funds towards the resources need to fill the preschool. Mel says: We are so pleased that funds raised in memory of our brother/son/cousin and friend Gavin, his beautiful wife Lea, his daughter Jade & his son Manfred who we sadly lost to a plane crash in October 2013 in Laos will build this pre-school, we can ensure they have a legacy which will mean so much to so many. If you would like to offer support for this amazing project please click on https://www.justgiving.com/RhodesCity2Surf2015 to make a donation, big or small. Best wishes and thank you, Jayne

14.01.2022 My business logo is inspired by this Ghanaian symbol of "Dwennimmen" (humility and strength). I see people around me who experience unimaginable loss and grief daily yet find the strength and humility to carry on, caring for their loved ones and giving back to their community. They are inspiring. ~Jayne~

14.01.2022 In this job I talk a lot about "hypotheticals" - "what if's" and "you'd want to avoid this" situations with clients. Today I learnt of a family grieving and struggling now to deal with one of those very situations. I can help, and I'm honoured to be able to help. But on so many levels I wish I didn't have to. Please, tell your loved ones... having a will in place, even a simple will, can avoid expensive and complicated problems at an already difficult time. ~Jayne~

14.01.2022 "Older people with cognitive impairment or dementia are particularly vulnerable to diminished financial decision-making, but at exactly what point they should lose control of their own finances can be difficult to determine. It can also place doctors in a contentious position between squabbling family members. Contact me for advice on the effectiveness of Enduring Powers of Attorney to assist vulnerable family members. ~Jayne~http://tars.com.au/news-testing-capacity-elderly-people-ma/

11.01.2022 A close relative recently found himself in the terrible situation of having to call an ambulance for a cycling buddy during one of their regular rides. The first question he had to answer was "What is your location?". Its not hard to imagine the panic he felt at not being able to answer this simple question accurately and quickly to get help for his friend. This app Emergency + downloaded onto your mobile phone gives both satellite co-ordinates and street address to pass on to the operator. It could be lifesaving. ~Jayne~ https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/emergency-+/id691814685?mt=8

10.01.2022 Some welcome regulations introduced today to help with the signing of important documents. Reach out for a chat about how this can work for you and your loved ones. https://www.nsw.gov.au//covid-19-video-tech-for-witnessing

09.01.2022 Elderly people are often vulnerable to financial abuse. A new "friend" moves in, needs financial help for fictional family problems and disappears in a rage when the well dries up. Its worth reporting to the Police and contacting a lawyer or the Elder Abuse Prevention Unit for advice. http://eapu.com.au/

08.01.2022 Looking forward to a run on Sunday. Thanks to all for your generous donations! ~Jayne~ https://www.justgiving.com/RhodesCity2Surf2015

03.01.2022 As another year comes to an end I am again feeling grateful for the support and confidence of my clients, friends and family during what has been a busy but successful year helping families through the challenges of planning for their family's future, caring for vulnerable family members or dealing with a loved one's estate. Best wishes to all for a safe and relaxing holiday.~Jayne~

03.01.2022 I have recently made a decision to merge my legal practice with an established firm in the Sutherland Shire. Over the next few weeks I will be contacting my clients to let them know of these new arrangements. I will continue to work with clients and their families to assist them to plan for the future and guide them through the challenges of caring for vulnerable family members, as well as advising on Probate matters and estate disputes. All this on a part-time basis while I look after my own busy family and their special needs. #changeisgood ~Jayne~

03.01.2022 This is a very sad story with an expensive twist. 31yo man died without a will and before signing divorce papers. His (ex) wife is entitled to his estate, his new partner and family will have to fight for a share of it. These things are so often left in the too hard basket with traumatic and expensive consequences. Isn't it about time you did something about your will? ~Jayne~ http://www.smh.com.au//family-battle-of-wills-over-missing
