Born on 17th January 1877, May Gibbs gave us the iconic Gumnut Babies, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, the Big Bad Banksia Men, and a... whole cast of delightful (and scary!) characters based on Australian flora and fauna (and the odd Scotty Dog). We are proud to be hosting a beautiful exhibition on the work of May Gibbs, in this centenary year of the first publication of Gumnut Babies. This free exhibition is proving to be one of our most popular, so bring the kids (and the grandparents!) along during opening hours at our central Liverpool City Library branch. Join us also on Thursday 9th February for a free lecture on the life of May Gibbs, presented by Stephanie Lake, the curator of Nutcote, Mays home on the harbour in Neutral Bay, and now a beautiful museum. 06.01.2022 Congratulations to Maysaa Daher from the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research for being named as a finalist for the 2017 NSW Young Woman of the Year Aw...ard. Maysaa Daher is part of the Brain & Injury Rehabilitation team at the Ingham Institute. She is steering a state-wide, return-to-work pilot intervention program for people who have had a brain injury. This is the first program of its kind in NSW. It aims to convey a message of welcome to newly arrived refugees and mig...rants and celebrate the rich cultural diversity in the Liverpool region. We hope to facilitate a sense of community spirit, through creative and beautiful representation of diversity and belonging. It is a collaborative arts project that will see 3 local artists, Helen Proctor, Mazin Ahmed and Buddy Martin, work together to complete a large, moveable mural that will be displayed throughout the Liverpool LGA.
