25.01.2022 Recent study Zhao et al 2020 showing significantly reduced risk of all cause mortality associated with exercise (8 year follow up of nearly 500,000 subjects). Cardio better than strength training but a combination of the two is best. I follow elite and recreational endurance runners and triathletes who do strength training, as well as strength athletes who have endurance phases in their training. Id suggest adding some body maintenance such as pilates, yoga or tai chi for completeness. This supports the EFM, cross fit, F45 type approaches.

As an injury prone young runner Jim followed the Lydiard, de Castella principles to become a consistent, healthy, successful distance runner. 80% of your running should be low intensity and even increased distance and 20% high intensity.

If heading South along South or Goodwood/Ayliffes Rd looks like you head along the the Southern Expressway lowered motorway now but stay left and take the exit to Main South Road to get to Darlington. It also looks like you can still take the way you have been going but this is more for local, Sturt Rd and Flinders Med Centre traffic. Good luck. Signage should be clearer

15.01.2022 Core Control is not about rigidity. We see some back problems caused by excessive compression from high load abdominal wall training such as planks and crunches. Core control is dynamic, 3 dimensional, athletic and coordinated. It is a balance of the inner and outer unit muscles and related to the demands of the task. Stability of the lumbar spine, pelvis and hips are dependent on each other and cant be looked at in isolation. 12.01.2022 Rearfoot to forefoot striking in running is a continuum dependent on individual variation, fitness and speed, eg slow jogging vs 100m sprint. Make small changes gradually. And most runners are rearfoot strikers. Great article on this topic thanks to Rethinking Physiotherapy:
