23.01.2022 Who we help Scott (pictured below) received funding from the JMB Foundation for hydrotherapy sessions. When Scott was 18 years old, he suffered a hypoxic brain injury from cardiac arrest during a severe asthma attack, resulting in permanent disability. Scott has severely reduced mobility, is wheelchair-bound and requires 24-hour care whilst living with his parents in Ormond. The JMB Foundation Grant Program has funded Scotts last two rounds of hydrotherapy, helping bridge th...e gap between the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the cost of therapy. Hydrotherapy provides an excellent environment for physiotherapists to aid Scott through a movement program. It enables Scott to experience buoyancy and freedom from gravity as he relaxes his high tone and spasticity. It also aids his sleep and circulation. Scotts parents are pleased to see after hydrotherapy he is relaxed and has a great nights sleep. Scott spends the majority of days in bed and in his chair, so having that time in the water is a godsend, said his mum. #jmbfoundation #jmb #jmbf #helping #young #people living with #abi See more

21.01.2022 JMBF had a great year at Melbourne Marathon Festival with JMB Foundation Team finishing as the 8th fundraising team raising approx $20,949 - So a big thank you to all our supporters, we couldn't have done it without you. Here are some fantastic photos from the day with the JMBF Team members sporting the JMBF singlet or T-shirts, which was appreciatively sponsored by Invesco and Sharp and Carter "There was a sense of family with the other fellow JMB Foundation supporters and running past the mass of volunteers at the Carey drink station was uplifting with their support which put a spring in my step." A very big thank you for the photos from our wonderful volunteer Prasad Patil and Vishesh Goyal - what a great job you did to cover our runners and volunteers!!!

19.01.2022 People we help - Helping Sam gain more independence 11-year-old Sam Moloney lives at home in Rutherglen, Victoria with his family. He received funding from the JMB Foundation for equipment that will aid in furthering his independence. When Sam was 1-year-old, he suffered an illness and was further diagnosed with Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM), resulting in a permanent disability. Sam requires one-on-one assistance with self-care. He, also requires daily body chec...ks, as he is unaware when he hurts himself. The JMB Foundation Grant Program has funded Sam in this round to purchasing equipment that will help him be more independent with his toileting, and aid in his ability to catch the school bus by himself. Thus helping bridge the gap between the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the cost of much-needed equipment, particularly in this case, when the school is a 55km bus ride away. See more

17.01.2022 WITH ONLY 8 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS Please give to the JMB FOUNDATION XMAS APPEAL The gift you give this year could be a gift to a young person suffering with an acquired brain injury. If you cant think of what to give for Christmas, give a gift that impacts. Make your gift a donation to JMB Foundations Christmas Appeal on behalf of your partner, friend, mum or dad. Its a gift that gives twice. Our JMB Foundation grant recipients need the funds we provide for them to help make their lives that little bit better. Wishing all our supporters a Merry Merry Christmas.

17.01.2022 James Macready-Bryan and Anj Barker - both recipients of JMBF funding. Applications for the next rounds funding due April 30th. ..... OUR STORY James Macready-Bryan was assaulted in Melbourne in 2006, on his 20th birthday. An act of senseless violence left James totally and permanently disabled, and left his family facing a nightmare as they attempted to find answers to the overwhelming question: How are we going to look after our son? The JMB Foundation was set up in Fe...bruary 2007 and has two main aims: to provide financial support for care and rehabilitation, not only for James, but also for other young sufferers of an acquired brain injury (ABI); and to give a public voice to those young people who all too often literally cannot speak for themselves and to their families and carers. #jmbf #jmb #foundation #helping #young #australian #people living with #abi #anjbarker See more

16.01.2022 People We Help Damian Lew In late 2017, then 24-year-old Damian had a motorbike accident while travelling in India, which resulted in an acquired brain injury. Damian initially received life saving surgery in India before being transported to an Australian hospital for further surgery and rehabilitation over the next 8 months. He currently lives at home with his parents Terry and Maxine and has two brothers. ... As a result of his ABI, Damian has acquired physical impairments mainly affecting the left side of his body, notably, his left arm and leg. Damian requires assistance with most tasks of daily living with support workers assisting, and his parents and siblings. Damian receives an NDIS package however it provides limited government-funded physiotherapy to meet Damians needs, particularly in this period where early intervention is most needed and yields the best results. It was clear more help was needed. This is where JMB Foundation stepped in. The Foundation has been able to fund extra physiotherapy in the last 12 months, and it has helped Damian enormously. When Damian was discharged, he was unable to stand without support. He can now stand independently, and walk independently for short stretches. Damian says, I still have a long way to go with my rehab journey but looking back on how it began gives me a big boost knowing that I have come so far. My rehabilitation particularly my physiotherapy under the watchful eye of my physio, Carina, has got me to the point where I have started practising to jog on the treadmill (albeit harnessed) and am strong enough to be given exercises to practise independently at home. These physio sessions enable me to continue to build my strength with the goal of one day returning to the workforce and resuming a normal life. It is thanks to our generous donors that JMBF has been able to help Damian with funding to assist his road to recovery and to be more independent and able to return to work. We are very grateful for our supporters who enable the Foundation to make grants available to young Australians, like Damian, who really need our assistance. With your help, we can and do make a positive difference to their care, comfort and quality of life.

14.01.2022 Please give to our Christmas Appeal ..... A letter from our chair Dear Supporters, 2020 has been a challenging year for all but the JMB Foundation continues to provide financial assistance to those people who apply through our bi-annual grant system. The money they receive helps pay for care needs such as extra therapy hours, special equipment, home modifications to increase independence, or participation in community access activities.... Their needs have not been put on hold due to this pandemic. Our usual fundraising efforts have been postponed but if there is anything you can do to assist, we would be most grateful. Thank you and hold your loved ones close. Merry Christmas and a happy and safe 2021 #happychristmas #jmb #jmbfoundation #helping #youngpeople living with #abi #charity #melbourne

14.01.2022 JMBF will continue to support young people living with ABI in these difficult times. Applications for the next round are due April 30th. .......... JMB Foundation provides funding for young people living with an acquired brain injury. . . . . . . . . . We prioritise funding that cannot be sourced under other funding schemes (e.g. NDIS). The JMB Foundation encourages applications from individuals or their families for GAPS in funding, and for advocacy and support when dealing with the NDIS (e.g. planning, plan reviews etc). Please share with your networks and help increase our number of supporters, and further raise funds for the growing number of applicants for the grants we offer. #JMBF #jmbfoundation #helping #youngpeople #Australians #abi #charity #funding #care

13.01.2022 Hi everyone this is a letter from Robyn Brewin talking about the particular challenges facing James and those living with ABIs in lockdown. This was written in June during our first lockdown, but for Victorians who are in stage 4, it seems most current. Hi everyone I am writing this to let you know how James is and what has been happening in his life lately. Living in the new Covid-19 world is challenging for everyone and it is particularly difficult for those with profound ...Continue reading

12.01.2022 JMBF is always grateful for the ongoing support of the Carey, OCGA and its broader Community. This year three Carey mums have joined up to fundraise for the Foundation. In lieu of Carey's annual social event, they are seeking direct donations to JMBF. It is a great way to contribute if possible.... As always, JMBF thanks Carey, OCGA and its broader Community, for their ongoing support which over the years has been invaluable for the young Australians living with ABI that we fund. See more

10.01.2022 Many of those in need, are particularly challenged by these difficult times with Covid. Here Robyn Brewin writes about James returns to Balwyn for Stage 4. ......... For the last 8 weeks, James has lived back at home with me. I have been greatly assisted every day by my husband Phil and some fabulous Support Workers. James’ dad Andrew and brother have also had care visits to help. The fabulous Support Workers Andrew, Isabel and Finn have worked with James for several years b...oth at his care home and also as community support workers and their expertise along with support from Ally at Inlife have made this move possible. They have provided exceptional care and have guided me to better learn how to transfer and position James. They have been partly funded by NDIS and partly by the JMB Foundation. Returning to the house James walked out of exactly 14 years ago has been a huge logistical move but a rewarding and special outcome of this new Covid world. After a Covid scare at his care home and daily cases topping 700, I decided to bring James here to live until the situation became safer. It has been a special privilege to care for James 24/7 and spend so much quality time. The mother/son bond never diminishes and though very emotionally challenging at times it has been worth every moment. I know when he returns this Thursday to his home of 10 years to join back into his life with his 9 housemates I will be the one who is sad. James Birthday 13th October and the anniversary of his vicious assault is a bittersweet day and this year although he won’t have his mates around to his place to celebrate as he usually does he will be at home with me. James and I want to thank all the generous and caring JMB Foundation supporters who continue to donate in this uncertain time. We have missed seeing many of you at the Melbourne Marathon and the JMB Cup day this year, both fab events. #JMBF #jmbfoundation #helping #youngpeople #Australians #abi #charity #funding #care

06.01.2022 Thanks for your support Kiara #repost @kiara_perin Today marks 4 years since I was on my gap year and had to come to terms with that fact I had just broken my back. I had a full on journey to recovery and spent the best part of that year in between hospital and rehab essentially training my body to walk again. The biggest thing I took out of this experience is how incredible our bodies are and I feel so fortunate to still be able to move my body everyday the way I ...can. Because of this I wanted to support those who havent been so lucky and help raise awareness for people who suffer daily from injuries. The JMB Foundation is an incredible foundation that aims to improve the shortfalls in the medical, financial, political and social services systems, in which young lives are saved but then not adequately supported. I will be raising money as part of my participation in Run Melbourne 2020 where I will be completing my first half marathon. Ive put a link in my bio to my fundraising page. All donations are so appreciated no matter the size. My aim is to get as close to $1500 as I can See more
