25.01.2022 When a polo entrepreneur is lecturing us on elitism - you know what they want is elitist Our beaches are the pinnacle of shared community space in Australia. The proposed privatisation of sections of Bondi doesn’t just pose a threat to this iconic beach, it sets a standard for beaches across our state, that cannot be allowed.

25.01.2022 I remember watching this speech being given, while I worked for Julia and being so inspired. Inspired not because this incredible woman detailed anything we hadn't already seen, or didn't already know, but inspired because for the first time - a woman who was our first, called out a standard set for women that has held us back for generations. While many across the aisle and in the media dismissed this speech as "over the top" and "desperate", what they failed to recognise wa...s that this speech represented too many, that have been discriminated against for too long. This speech wasn't just a rallying cry for women around our nation, it was a rallying cry for women around the world. To this day, there are generations of women who will no longer accept misogyny. Not now, not ever.

24.01.2022 In 2019, 63 people were killed by an intimate partner. Reclaim the Night Sydney has spent the past 40 years fighting to end domestic and sexual violence in our society. I stand in solidarity with all those marching tonight

24.01.2022 It is undestandable to feel dismayed at the current state of the live music industry in NSW. This Government continues to let down this industry, already facing significant challenges due to the impact of COVID-19. That's why the announcement by Darcy Byrne to convert Marrickville Town Hall in a live music and performing arts centre is so incredibly important.... This will transform a beloved local institution into a vibrant home of creativity, built upon the strong foundations established by generations of multicultural communities in the inner west.

21.01.2022 What a brilliant speech and commitment tonight from our very own Inner Westie Anthony Albanese. Universal childcare, modernising Australia’s electricity grid to support renewable energy, manufacturing in Australia once again. These aren’t just economic commitments, these are social commitments.... Social commitments that will provide women with equity in the workplace. Social commitments that will harness the power of renewal energy and reduce electricity prices. Social commitments that will drive Australian jobs, independence and creativity. The alternative is a government that is supporting big business at the expense of everyone struggling, at a time of total Crisis. We have an opportunity not just to help people survive the COVID crisis, but to reshape our country for the better. This budget reply, proves that next election - we have the chance to do this.

20.01.2022 A new live music venue for the Ville

20.01.2022 Good on parents and families at Lambton Public School for taking up the fight to fix the Death Trap crossing outside their school. Andrew Constance MP needs to act now and urgently install safety measures before someone is injured or worse. Ping Sonia Hornery MP

20.01.2022 Many families across the inner west are facing a tough Christmas and I am collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys to help make sure 2020 ends on a high for every child. Please drop off donations to my office or at one of the mobile collection points over the next few weeks. Together, we can make a real difference for local kids and families. This year, all donations will be made to AbSec the peak organisation supporting Aboriginal children, young people, families and co...mmunities impacted by the child protection system. 18.01.2022 In Australia one woman a week is murdered by a current or former partner. Today marks the start of Sixteen Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. As part of this, the Inner West Council is partnering with the Women’s & Girls’ Emergency Centre WAGEC to host a free, online workshop aimed at empowering inner westies to be active bystanders and help prevent violence against women.... Thank you to the council and centre for this important project.

18.01.2022 This bill will kill more koalas. As the planning Minister said, you cannot save koalas if you are bulldozing their habitat. The people of New South Wales will see through this; they will not stand to lose more koalas because the Liberals and The Nationals are looking after their property developer mates.

18.01.2022 #BREAKING We have forced the Government back to the drawing board on Haberfield, Ashfield and Leichhardt road changes. A response has been released by Transport for NSW following thousands across our community detailing their concerns regarding these proposed changes - you can read the response here: https://v2.communityanalytics.com.au/tfnsw/iwlocal I have been in contact with Transport NSW directly who have confirmed that they will be going back to the drawing board on thes...e changes. Our community rallied together to prevent these changes and I am so proud to have helped in that effort including writing directly to thousands across Ashfield and Haberfield to encourage and assist in writing submissions. Of the submissions received, 86% objected to changes proposed. We will continue to fight to prevent moving congestion on major thoroughfares to local streets, increasing rat-running, meaning it will take longer for locals to complete short journeys to the shops, health centres, schools and local facilities. You can also read my submission on the proposal here: https://www.johaylen.com/roadnetworkchanges

18.01.2022 $3 billion spent Open for only 10 months Already falling apart.....

18.01.2022 Imagine being able to ride or walk along a continuous foreshore pathway all the way from the Opera House to Parramatta. That is what The McKell Institute's wonderful proposal would allow. The project would create up to 3,145 new jobs, generate over $150 million to local economies along the path and create new recreational space for over 90,000 residents.... Dom Perrottet MP must fund this important piece of active transport infrastructure.

17.01.2022 Summer Hill is set to get a brilliant new community space! The Village Project is set to transform the heart of Summer Hill by converting a longvacant, three-storey warehouse into a green and vibrant community use space for innerwest businesses and residents. Special thanks to Bindi and the whole The Village Project team for providing another wonderful, multipurpose space in the inner west.

16.01.2022 I'm so proud to be able to support some of the invaluable local groups and organisations working to support our community through this difficult year. This grassroots funding will directly benefit our community, delivering new infrastructure and paying for much-needed improvements, right when we need it most. I am so grateful to all the local residents who participated in my community survey and to all the organisations that applied for this year’s grant round.... Congratulations to AbSec, The Rev Bill Crews Foundation, Dulwich Hill Public School Dulwich Hill Public School - P&C, Ferncourt Public School Ferncourt Public School - Parent and Citizens Association, Flight Path Theatre, Greek Orthodox Community Occasional Care Centre, Haberfield Association, The Infants' Home, Marrickville District Lawn Tennis Club, Marrickville West Public School Marrickville West Public School, St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church St Nicholas Marrickville Youth, Petersham Public School, River Canoe Club, St John Ambulance Australia, Wests AFL Juniors, Yeo Park Infants School Yeo Park Infants Parents and Citizens

14.01.2022 Important reminder for local Labor members! You can tune into Labor's first Online Convention, tomorrow from 10am to 1pm. This will be a wonderful opportunity to hear from Anthony Albanese and Jodi McKay, and to take part in panel discussions about important policy issues.... Make sure to RSVP online below.

14.01.2022 The Liberals and Nationals today cut the wages of the workers who have kept us safe during the pandemic. Our nurses, teachers and cleaners deserve better than this. https://www.abc.net.au//nsw-public-servants-will-/12842642

13.01.2022 Our council rates could be increasing (by alot) thanks to this Government's forced amalgamation of our councils. The Government is forcing amalgamated local government councils across New South Wales to harmonise rates before 2021, leading to massive potential increases for residents in suburbs including Ashbury, Marrickville and Hurlestone Park. The Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock MP must follow through with her commitment to allow councils to stagger increase,... rather than hitting residents with one big increase. I stand with Darcy Byrne and Clr. Khal Asfour - Mayor of the City of Canterbury Bankstown in calling for this Government to take action to protect our residents.

13.01.2022 The only parade being rained on this year, will be Fred Nile‘s.

13.01.2022 An estimated 240,000 women aged 55 or over are at-risk of homelessness nationally. As are another 165,000 women aged 45 to 55 years. The Government must take action to address this silent issue.... This must end.

12.01.2022 For 42 years Reclaim the Night Sydney has fought against gendered violence and sexual assault. One in 10 Australian women in a relationship have reported incidents of domestic violence during the pandemic, with two-thirds saying that the violence started or became worse during the lockdown. To the feminists in my electorate who continue the fight to end gendered violence - I stand with you.

12.01.2022 Jackie Trad has always been a tireless fighter for her community and for the progressive cause. She is an inspiration to many. Thank you Jackie and hope to see you soon

11.01.2022 This is damning. Kids as young as eleven continue to be strip-searched by Police and the proportion of Indigenous people subjected to strip searches increased from 9% to 13% in the past 2 years, despite making up only 3.4% of the state’s population.

11.01.2022 This anti-poverty week, we must reflect on the horrifying levels of poverty in our state. Sydney represents the highest rates of rent and cost of living, when cost of living and rent index is considered. Gladys Berejiklian must act.

10.01.2022 Pathologists are commonly referred to as the invisible doctors. This year however, their work has been anything but invisible. They have been on the front lines every single day, working hard to ensure COVID-19 testing occurs in a timely and accurate manner and they have also had to perform their usual tasks.... This International Pathology Day, we give our heartfelt thanks to all those who work in pathology every single day. HSU NSW

10.01.2022 Marrickville West Public School is getting a school crossing supervisor on Livingstone Rd! This was one of the key demands raised in my Summer Hill School Safety Survey. This is another wonderful step towards making it safer for kids to walk and ride to school.

10.01.2022 In June 2018, both houses of NSW Parliament passed the Modern Slavery Act. The Government has not yet made it law. The Bill makes important reforms to protect people in NSW from human trafficking, servitude, debt bondage and forced labour and must be proclaimed now. The e-petition calling on the Government to proclaim the Bill needs another 9,500 signatures before Tuesday. ... Help end modern slavery and sign today: https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//Pages/ePetition-details

09.01.2022 Winners!!! #goblues

09.01.2022 Don’t be so reckless Andrew Constance MP As the Manly Ferry cuts its way to Circular Quay. She don't like that kind of behaviour. ... Australian Crawl recognised the Manly Ferry for what it truly is, iconic. These ferries have attracted and transported millions of tourists and residents alike for generations. They must be saved.

08.01.2022 Some exciting but unsurprising news! Even if this is 9 spots short of where it should actually be ranked

07.01.2022 Today we celebrate the tireless work of allied health professionals across our state, who have been working tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic. These workers have been putting their lives at risk to keep us safe and healthy. On Allied Health Professionals Day, we say thank you to these important workers.

07.01.2022 For 50 years, the Aboriginal Legal Service has been fighting for criminal justice reform, racial justice and resistance. I offer my deepest thanks to the Aboriginal Legal Service Board of Directors and the 200 staff members across New South Wales, and congratulate them on this important milestone. Always was, always will be.

07.01.2022 Year on year, the rates of those struggling with mental health issues continues to increase. This world mental health day, we must all commit to joining the fight to build awareness and support for those struggling.

05.01.2022 How amazing is this?!

04.01.2022 Two deaths in three days is unacceptable. A massive safety crisis is unfolding in the gig economy. - Daniel Mookhey MLC is absolutely right. This crisis deserves action, that’s why Daniel and I have introduced a Bill to parliament mandating that these companies give their riders and drivers the safety training and equipment they need. No worker should have to put their lives at risk to make minimal amounts of money, while their employer rakes in profit. ... The Government must act.

04.01.2022 If you have ever met Lucille you will know exactly why this award is so deserved. Lucille has balanced her family and professional life with a deep commitment to public service, and in doing so has changed our community for the better. She was Ashfield council’s first and only female Mayor.... Even right now, Lucille has come out of retirement and put herself on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis. I will forever be so proud to represent local heroes like Lucille.

04.01.2022 An extra 1000 passengers. That's how many additional passengers an hour will be able to travel on the Inner West light rail, thanks to four new trams. This commitment by the Government is credit to the residents from Dulwich Hill, Summer Hill, Lewisham and across the Inner West Region for fighting for quality and reliable public transport services.

04.01.2022 What a way to spend the morning - touring the wonderful Marrickville Golf Course with new president of the club, Andrew Tighe Andrew has such a wonderful vision for how the club can continue to build on the brilliant community use that the course already champions. We also popped by the Mudcrabs who were working non stop to establish and support a beautiful section of local natives.

03.01.2022 What a slap in the face to students who have struggled through so much this year Scott Morrison should be supporting these students through university, not making it harder for them. Instead he teamed up with Centre Alliance and One Nation to condemn the dreams of so many kids.

03.01.2022 Delivery companies have responded to this by telling their workers to be careful This is nowhere near enough. These multi-million dollar companies are dining out on the fact that we can’t, during COVID-19.... They must immediately provide their workers with the safety equipment they require, and pay them what they deserve. The Transport Workers Union (TWU), Daniel Mookhey MLC and I will not stop fighting to keep these workers safe at work.

03.01.2022 676 deaths due to COVID-19 - nothing committed in the budget This says everything about the Government's commitment to keeping people those in aged care safe. This is unacceptable.

02.01.2022 It is beyond ridiculous that someone in a suburb surrounding Newcastle can access $250 in travel support, but their neighbour can't. Over 10,000 people across NSW signed our petition calling on the Government to address the issues that have plagued it's Regional Seniors Travel Card. Today, Sonia Hornery MP, Tim Crakanthorp MP and Jodie Harrison MP took the fight up to the Government on this important issue.... We will not stop fighting for Seniors in Newcastle who have been abandoned by this Government.

02.01.2022 Tomorrow night our mighty NSW Blues will take on the Queensland Maroons. Go NSW. Summer Hill is behind you

02.01.2022 Every worker deserves to be safe at work. Every family deserves to know their loved ones will come home. From ABC News

01.01.2022 We simply cannot afford to lose another decade to climate inaction, nor can we sit idly by as our ageing electricity network is driven slowly but surely into the ground. Labor has always understood that investing in renewables provides opportunities not only to sustain the livelihoods and dignity of workers and communities, but also to respect and harness their extraordinary skills and capacity to drive our energy network into the future. This bill is a welcome first step tow...ards our state truly embracing the future. Now this Government must follow through.

01.01.2022 I support Australian workers and manufacturing. Labor has introduced a Bill to compel Government departments and agencies to spend taxpayer money on locally made goods and services. No more trains that don't fit the tracks or ferries that don't fit under bridges. Local knowledge. Local skills. Local jobs. Sign the petition today to show your support: https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//Pages/ePetition-details
