25.01.2022 , . ... Make them count. This is on average the number of days a person lives. But if you are a little older like me, you could have less than 9000 days left. Covid-19 has left us feeling all doom and gloom. Pre-COVID, our daily routines allowed us to work productively and sense our progress while experiencing more variety outside of work. WFH has made each day blend together, leaving us increasingly demoralized as now nothing seems special or unique. Absorbing this negativity can see us missing out on days - days we can’t get back. But we have a choice. Take charge and make the most of each day by living intentionally, allowing you to see each day with renewed life. Ask yourself: What do you want to do in life what is your purpose? How are you going to implement what you need to do? Even in the toughest situations, you will be surprised by the resilience we possess. The article provides an example of living with intention and the results are stunning. https://bit.ly/3kW7ItR Think outside the box what is your creative challenge to live the life you want? 23.01.2022 Don’t mask your emotions. Masks are now mandatory in Melbourne. Being a little hard of hearing, please don't get offended if I ask you to repeat yourself.... Here are some other changes you may notice. People staring into your eyes longer than usual. No, they aren't trying to hit on you, they are just compensating for not being able to see your mouth. Humans are incredibly attuned to reading the facial expressions, in particular, the mouth and eyes. This interpretation helps us to understand emotions and to reduce verbal misunderstandings. You may inadvertently become Italian for awhile. Don't be surprised if your hand-gestures increase as you try to make a point. Shielded by mask and glasses, it is only natural we use our body posture, and hand motions to make ourself understood. You may notice you use more vocal inflection like a stage actor to confirm your message. Think about how you are stressing certain words because it can change the feeling of what you're saying. Don't worry, humans are wired to adapt. If you could have an emotion on your mask, what would it be?

17.01.2022 " " - Charles Duhigg Duhigg argued that late bloomers had greater success and happiness than those with early achievement. He theorised -when you might think you are an also-ran, who has often failed, you search for greater direction and meaning in your life. ... Once found, our past experience provides the mental tools to overcome obstacles and difficulties, helping propel success, and allowing you to bloom. Ultimately, becoming more content, worldly richer, and ultimately happier. Surviving past failures and maturity does strengthen your mental skills, but at any age, the recipe he serves is more about understanding your purpose in life and forging a process to create success. Firstly, there is a wake-up call finding your purpose that flips a switch to make changes then create a plan to make it happen lastly, the implementation. When we reflect on any late bloomer, it’s clear that they always had what it tookthey just took their time to learn the method. Do you know your purpose? Is it time to evaluate your goals? 16.01.2022 Our expectations influence our thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and they impact outcomes. If we tell ourselves business is good, we look for opportunity and create a positive vibe, encouraging our customers to spend. Opposingly, when there is talk of an impending recession, because of our expectations, we become cautious of spending. This reduced spending creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. Our expectations lead to behaviour, which in turn ma...kes the event happen. Research confirms that those with high expectations, fostered by behaviours that facilitate and motivate, consistently outperformed those with low expectations. 15.01.2022 Zoomed out? After a break, elite athletes always start back with reduced training loads. Slowly adjusting to new routines is crucial to prevent burnout and injury while building the physical and mental endurance to reach peak performance.... Regrettably, we didn’t enter the new WFH environment similarly, but like a new kid in a candy store, we rushed into Zoom, Team and all the other versions of video meetings for both work and family catchups. Now, we are all ‘Zoomed out.’ We didn’t allow for the exhaustive and difficult process our brain experienced being challenged continuously to detect the online mood and micro-expressions of others. And unlike any diligent athlete, we failed to implement rest and recovery strategies. With the zoom world here to stay, here are some alternatives to create some downtime, yet still stay connected. Give virtual hugs through random and light-hearted text messages. A simple text - what’s for dinner? Or, picture reminders of funny past events - although, anything that injects laughter will brighten someone else’s day. How do you stay connected without Zoom? 15.01.2022 A spinning ballerina can teach us much about confusion. They have honed the skill of focussing on a point far off in the distance to ensure that they land gracefully and without vertigo. This skill doesn’t happen by accident it takes years of practice and focus.... In us, confusion and angst often show up when we want change but our final goal is unclear. Unlike the ballerina we spin out of control; crashing and never getting back up again. Ask yourself these questions to build your practice and focus: It is what you really want to do (or is it something you should do?) Why do you want this goal? It is planned out? - so you know how to create immediate action rather than face overwhelm Are goals written down with clear deadlines? Are they your goals? (Or are they goals based on expectations of your family, job, or society?) Do you have a back-up plan if you detour? 15.01.2022 One failure doesn't create a destiny, but how we think about it does. Being Italian, my husband is a great cook. With the impending COVID restrictions and to lift our mood, he decided a cheesecake was needed. After licking the beaters, I eagerly anticipated the final product, but partway through cooking, all I could smell was burning. ... Inadvertently, he'd put the grill on rather than the oven, and the top was now black. Quick adjustments to the heat and the cheesecake cooked on. After cooling down, he gently lifted off the blackened top off and served it up. It was pretty damn good. A success, if you ask me. Success or failure depends on how you see it. For my husband, it was a failure that hurt. One he wanted to avoid experiencing again. He didn't acknowledge his quick thinking with the heat to produce a lovely cake. Only that he would "stick to my ragu's in future". In life, we have a tendency to give up when we fail, rather than acknowledge any success experienced along the way. So, before you give up, do a mental debrief to acknowledge and focus on what your successes were, it may just change your journey. When have you been guilty of seeing failure over success? Enjoyed this post, please reach out or connect with me. #goalsmatter. #success #goals

11.01.2022 How are you maintaining your health? the doctor asked. I’ve been eating well, and working out regularly, I reply. When we talk about health, it is easy to think about it as purely physical.... 11.01.2022 Get on the right path during COVID When travelling, there are always many roads to our final destination; naturally, we take the shortest path. The same goes for life; your actions can take you on the quickest route, or they can delay you forever.... Unfortunately, many of us take the later. Here are 3 mindset shifts to help you succeed on the shortest path. - If there's one thing setting effective goals has taught me, if you want something, you need to execute the plans you set. Head down, tail up - do the hard stuff, and stop making excuses. , - Unfamiliarity always challenges us. Putting it off only intensifies the problem, mentally. Deal with the adversity in the present moment, a proven method to build trust in your future self to do what needs to be done next time. we feel we have missed out because of COVID but our sense of urgency can also be our stumbling block. 11.01.2022 Swimming pools are one of the safest environments during COVID. For all my swimming friends - Factual information is important. Engaged by Swimming Victoria, I was asked to fast-track a literature review on the relationship between Swimming Pools and COVID 19. With the ever-changing COVID-19 environment, I believe it is the first of it’s kind in Australia.... Unfortunately, Swimming Pools and their operations are often a misunderstood environment. Through lack of knowledge and incorrect assumptions, decisions are being made that negatively impact a highly regulated industry. But more than anything, the review provided fascinating information. Things I am sure the industry has known all along. As international scientific evidence has acknowledged, pools are one of the safe environments. To read the full review, go to: https://bit.ly/32IUicb Let’s get the Aquatic Industry swimming again, and get all swimming pools reopened. What's your sport? 06.01.2022 Turn Disappointment into Opportunity I was so excited and looking forward to my first face-to-face presenting gig, post the first lockdown. The days were creeping closer until suddenly, bang, we were in lockdown again, and the event was cancelled.... Yes, I am from the leper state of Melbourne. It felt worse than losing a race - because at least if I’d lost a race, I’d know I would have another opportunity and could control when I can try again. Most of us must be feeling similar, as it has crept into our lives a lot lately. Businesses closed, cancelled plans, dreams on pause; it can be devastating. It is easy for us to fall into a heap, give up and lose all the progress we had made. But what if we flipped our perspective? What if we transform the disappointment into an opportunity for growth? Suddenly, this disappointment can be an opportunity to spend more time increasing our knowledge or perfecting our art. Through a positive mindset and small achievable goals, we can continue to grow in the face of disappointment. The finish line has moved, but we can still run towards it. What’s your new opportunity for growth? If you need help with your reaching your goals, reach out or connect with me. #goalsmatter. #goals #success

05.01.2022 Be a fighter, not a quitter If you think your goals may have gone out the windowhere is a valuable lesson from sport. In 2000, a young cyclist Spanish Cyclist Javier Otxoa stamped his name into tour folklore with a stunning stage win over Lance Franklin.... But seven months later, Javier and his twin brother, Ricardo, faced another fight, one for their lives, after being hit by a sleeping driver. Unfortunately, Richardo died en route to the hospital. Javier survived but was given little hope for the future, facing possible brain damage, and paraplegia. Waking from a 9-week coma, facing disability and depression, Javier fought back. He realised his goalposts had moved, his professional cycling career was over, but he asked himself, ' ?'. Javier set himself a goal to compete at the 2004 Paralympic Games. With these new goals, he regained focus and wellbeing. This phenomenal man went on to win Gold and Silver, in 2004, and then Gold in Beijing at the 2008 Paralympics. In these difficult times, our thoughts can be weighed down by what we can’t do, rather than what you can do. Are you thinking towards the future, or caught up in the problems of now? Do your goalposts need to move?

05.01.2022 Olympic Champion and Gold Medallist Swimmer, Adam Peaty as a child feared water. Michael Jordan failed to make the cut for his high school basketball team but went on to become one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Australian Gold Medal Aerial Skier Alisa Camplin didn’t even own a set of skies until five years before her victory.... What separates these winners from all others They all created strategies and plans to stay committed to their challenging goals. Whenever I was working out and got tired and figured I ought to stop, I’d close my eyes and see that list in the locker room without my name on it that usually got me going again MJ They worked hard and knew they had to go above and beyond to make it to the top. I work harder than probably anyone in the pool that does breaststroke. Adam Peaty They didn’t wait for the motivation to hit, they created it every day. I love this quote from Alisa Camplin. 03.01.2022 I’m still in my PJ’s, said Emily. I can’t be bothered, after all, no one can see me. Then Emily started missing zoom calls and work deadlines. Always, one excuse after another.... Inwardly, she was feeling increasingly disillusioned and heading into a deepening spiral of despair when she reached out for help. Having no goals contributes to your moods negatively. Success, motivation and resilience are built by defining your purpose and developing a plan to achieve it. If Emily sounds like you? Start by asking: How important are you? Then start easy: Define one goal for the day? What’s the first step to achieving this goal? When you decide that YOU matter, you will start making some bigger and more valuable decisions. As part of Emily’s recovery, she started working on a road map, a process of organising her goals and tasks. Feeling I’ve got this was an extremely powerful and perceptual shift in her mind. Suddenly, my mental and physical energy skyrocketed, says Emily If you feel stuck, exhausted and need to get out of your PJ’s, it is time to evaluate your goals and make YOU a priority. Are you making yourself a priority? If you need help shifting your mindset, please reach out or connect with me. #goalsmatter. #motivation #success #whatinspiresme

02.01.2022 Have you struggled to look at yourself on Zoom? Maybe you have patted your hair down or realised that you don’t smile very often, and now make a conscious effort to do so. What about pre-zoom? ... Are others seeing the real you or a persona you have crafted to get a specific job done? For instance, you may need to be a strong work leader to inspire confidence in your teammates but are very subdued at home. It is natural for people to take on slightly different personas at work and at home. After all, different environments, different expectations. Who are you really? Our success depends on how well we can navigate between these two personas. Big personality shifts or being unable to easily shift out of one to the other, can soon leave you feeling disconnected and drained. Not to mention the impact it has on those you love. Similarly, if we fail to see those different personalities within ourselves, we tend to experience more physical and mental distress when things don’t go well. By aligning work with your future goals, you can promote your true personality to shine through. Leaving you more relaxed and energized. If you need help making the switch, please reach out or connect with me. #goalsmatter. #motivation #success #whatinspiresme

01.01.2022 . Does this sound like you? A friend says they will call later in the day - the time comes and goes - no call.... Why don’t we pick up the phone and call them? Instead, we catastrophise the situation, believing the worst and usually about us; They don't care I'm not important enough, or I’m not worthy of their time. It's time to understand, asking someone suffering from mental health issues to speak up, isn't going to work. Regardless of how we feel, we always answer 'good' when asked: "how are you?". For athletes the situation is worse; they have created this strong sporting identity. How can they ask for help, when they view what is going on in their head as weakness, and especially one they don’t want the world to see. This mindset means we are very unlikely to divulge our most significant problems, to anyone, regardless of our closeness. What if we took another tack? Valuing the mind as much as the body Starting early, learning what treatments work for our emotional wounds. If you need help building your mental toolbox, please reach out or connect with me. #goalsmatter. #ruok #success #mentalhealth
