03.01.2022 It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Arthur Phillip Berkefeld. Arthur has been the most influential person in the long running history of J.O. Berkefeld Pty Ltd. Arthurs father, Julius Otto, founded the business J.O. Berkefeld on 1st October 1933. Shortly thereafter and due to the depression years, Arthur commenced working for his father on 11th November 1935 at age 14.... It was then in 1941 where he won the 100 mile bike race which was one of his proudest achievements. Later that year he enlisted in the Army. Arthur was even able to set up the financial accounting and the income tax during his leave period from the Army. At age 27 he completed his CPA (Certified Practicing Accountant) in which he remained a member for 70 years. Along with his knowledge in Accounting, Arthur had a keen interest in repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment. On one occasion he was welding a lock on a petrol bowser currently in use! This was done under the watchful eye of his son Kym and employee Barry Case from 50 metres away as they were hiding behind a door! Throughout the years Arthur was able to adapt to the changing business economy and was not afraid to get his hands dirty and have a go. He was very well liked and respected and always seemed to be working, whether it be at work, home or in the local community. Even in his twilight years, Arthur continued to take a keen interest in the operations of the business. We thank you and salute you Arthur ( Berky , Dad , Pa ) Arthurs funeral service will be held on Tuesday 28th January @ 12pm at the Carinya Gardens Crematorium. He will be reunited with his wife Joan of over 70 years.
