25.01.2022 A fine herd of future champions are in the paddock right now

25.01.2022 Top shot of Bernie on Wynola Spellbound (by Cadabra out of Wynola Dixie Chick) at Stanthorpe draft. She dipped a hoof into the Challenge world this weekend and as usual, did not disappoint.

25.01.2022 So pleased to discover Scott Jenkins Horse Starting in 2019.

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Will Miller, the owner of Wynola Adagio AKA George, champion led gelding, Dungog Show, NSW

24.01.2022 While I’d never normally recommend taking a horse to her first show with one day’s preparation, but it was our local Killarney Show. She’s been away in a feedlot for almost a year and I was then away for work so we had one day to practise a work out. Wynola Spellbound (by Cadabra out of Wynola Dixie Chick) found the show fascinating, especially the bag pipe band and their mega drums, but she managed to mostly hold it together. From decent sized fields she got a second in led mare and won the mare’s working class. Thank you to Icewood Australian Stock Horses and Training for sponsoring the ASH classes. Also thank you to Melissa Boully at Gympie Saddle World for outfitting me in my ASH gear.

23.01.2022 Weekends at Wynola. The weaners are super friendly now they realise where their food comes from! And our pretty little two year old mare Wynola Swingtime (by Ervines Rollex out of Serenade) finally gets back to her mates in the back paddock after four weeks of nursing a cut leg in the round yard.

22.01.2022 Wynola Spellbound. This 7 year old mare by Cadabra had her first ride in 10mths the week before last weekend’s Warwick campdraft, and landed an 84 in the novice.

22.01.2022 If I had to pick a place to self isolate, it would be at home, at Wynola. And all the event free weekends are giving us time to bring horses into work. This is Wynola Rugged Chick (by Rugged Kid out of Tanami Ochre). She was started under saddle last year, spelled, then brought into work this week. She had two days of ground work this week, then a ride with Bernie in the saddle today. Here's a snippet.

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Caroline Hope on your purchase of Wynola Jazz aka Stitchy. We are very happy to see her go to a lovely home where she will spend the next little while doing some polocrosse training. She’s a much loved favourite of ours, very smart and highly trainable and loves to work. We wish them all the best.

20.01.2022 And a filly by Invictus

19.01.2022 The list of horses to work grew by two this weekend. I'm a bit grateful every weekend is free at the moment! Got these two cracking two year olds back from Scott Jenkins Horse Starting on Saturday. Bernie did a bit of arena work and then took each out for a stroll around the bush. Neither put a foot wrong. The grey (blue) filly (Wynola Swingtime) is out of Wynola Serenade by Ervine's Rollex and the pretty brown gelding (Wynola Rocket) is out of Bernie's old A grade polocrosse mare, Borambola Dolly Parton, by Bingarra Early Answer. We'll be throwing some feed and work into Rocket and trying to find his new career home in a few months.

18.01.2022 It's just so important when training your horse to show him what to do instead of focusing on punishing what you don't want him to do. Set him up to succeed and let his laundry list of 'not quite getting it right' attempts go through to the keeper. Then ALWAYS (yes I know I'm shouting) reward the minute he gets it even close to right. It could be just one stride, one second of 'being through', a small glimpse of stretching toward the contact. Getting your timing right is crit...ical, but it's your job to work on that. All those small attempts that earn him a quick pat and 'great job - thanks for trying buddy' will compound over time to become his natural way of going. Sean O'Hanlon is a great horseman, and human, and shares an important message with those of us who spend a lot of time training ourselves to communicate with our horses better. See more

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Wynola Mystic’s new owners. Mystic is a 5 year old gelding by Cadabra out of Wynola Dixie Chick. He is off to the NT and I hope his new family have as much fun with him as Bernie and I have had over the last few years.

10.01.2022 We waved goodbye to Wynola Tango, one of our favourites, today. Congratulations to his new owners, a lovely couple from Jimboomba. He is in for a luxury life and we couldn’t be more excited for his future. He will be missed in our stables.

09.01.2022 Cross training for horses is great no matter what your specialist discipline. Yesterday morning Warmblood Chrissy (dressage) came to pony club for the sports events and in the afternoon ASH Idol (also dressage) has his first play with a bison.

08.01.2022 Patience and persistence. Changing the shape of a big, strong, green horse is a marathon not a sprint. Slowly we are seeing the changes in conformation through correct strengthening and stretching exercises so she can carry herself and me in the correct posture, in comfort #stillfatthough

08.01.2022 There is still beauty in the drought when you look for it. And it’s great to have the help of good friends to share some laughs despite the never ending dry. #onedayclosertorain Kari-Melise Moffat Scott Jenkins Horse Starting Clint Kenny Debbie Stevens

07.01.2022 Bit of Facebook fun. Would love to hear updates about any of my old pony club cohort - New Lambton back in the 1960s and 70s. Families I remember well are the Tynans, Ryans (yes those Ryans) and Tessiers.

07.01.2022 Great shots of Bernie campdrafting Wynola Idol Rumour (my dressage pony :-)) and Wynola Spellbound at the Warwick Campdraft last weekend #thebreedforeveryneed #australianstockhorses Helen Groves Photography

05.01.2022 Wynola Rugged Chick aka Candy looks set to be Bernie’s new/first futurity prospect. This is day three @ Scott Jenkins Horse Starting. Candy is out of Tanami Ochre by Eskdale Rugged Kid

04.01.2022 I took my young Cadabra gelding to a Toowoomba dressage day a couple of weeks ago for his first off farm outing. I'd only given him four days training because it was a last minute idea. It was in the indoor so I figured he'd just get some life experience and if it was all too much he could stay tied up to the float. He seemed calm enough on the day so I stuck him in his first prelim test. He didn't bat an eyelid and scored 67%. He can stay in the training squad now and do a few more https://vimeo.com/384416217

02.01.2022 Sunday mornings are for working the fat babies

01.01.2022 This fella - Wynola Mystic- is up there with our all time favourites. He is 4 but has the mind of a 7 year old. He’s by one of our favourite sires Cadabra, out of an All Talk/Kyabra Cattleman mare. Currently mustering around the property, has had one ag show outing and competing prelim/novice dressage - two outings with placings in both and scores around 69%.
