24.01.2022 Well a week ago I didnt know Id be doing this. 6 days ago - same. 5 days ago something started to shift in me and by Friday I had almost made up my mind. And today another shift (thanks for the talks Cathy and Jay) I enrolled in a course with the Cancer Exercise Training Institute in the US. I think last week I loudly said there was no way I would be taking on a heavy study load in 2020 - well I was wrong about that too. 22.01.2022 I am learning all about cancer and all I need to know to offer exercise options for people with cancer - pre and post surgery, during chemotherapy and for those in remission and beyond. Lymphedema actually fascinates me - and I had no idea how long lasting lymphedema is. Learning heaps - and getting my mind and tongue around all the surgeries and complexities. Ill be offering specialised cancer exercise sessions from 2021. #wheretonext #cancersupport

21.01.2022 heres a blast from the past! My very first logo! This was pre facebook and pre website and when you had to use local people who met with you face to face to hear all about your business concept and designed a logo accordingly. I was not a PT then. I trained as a PT to diversify - I got sidetracked at that point . . . . I recall it cost me $600!! This logo reflected my focus on health and wellbeing in the workplace - how things have changed!!!

21.01.2022 When I ask people what is a 10/10 meal - where you can say its perfect nutritionally, a great balance thatll give you energy and zing they are ALWAYS 100% right. So its not about knowledge. Its about building habits in so you eat great food as a matter of routine - it may not be 10/10 - I fact thats hard to sustain. But what if we ate 8/10 most of the time, 10/10 some of the time, thered be space for cake or some other such thing that comes your way. ... Habits like CROWDING OUT, Focusing on DIVERSITY and getting in tough with the natural hormonal signals that indicate hunger and fullness - this all makes a difference. Add in accountability and focus on habits and youll be eating for health and zing. 20.01.2022 Lets be clear about hormones and how they reduce your ability to lose weight. Your body will always store fat when youre stressed - hormone to manage - cortisol (focus on reducing stress) Your body will always tell you youre hungry when your tired - hormone to manage - grelin ( focus on quality sleep) Your body will quickly seek out more fuel when your eat sugary foods - hormone to manage - glucose and insulin ( focus on quality food with slow release energy)... These are all largely managed by lifestyle - I can help you with that - you dont need to do this on your own! Please dont jump to the conclusion that because your are peri- menopausal or menopausal, you have hot and cold sweats, your oestrogen levels are low = you cant lose weight. Im not saying its as easy as when you were 20, but lifestyle factors still are the biggest reason for weight gain in middle age. Maybe you need a little help managing the change? 19.01.2022 Whats it cost you? Your health, wellness, treatment? I recently spoke to a prospective client who had a psychologist, podiatrist, chiropractor, masseuse and physiotherapist. What she didnt have was an exercise regime - not even a walk in the park. She invested in vitamins and minerals, and washed her take away meals down with a very nice red. Id say she has massive potential for change - lots of simple things to implement that could make a difference. Trouble is shes... a non believer. Shes stuck in a medical and reactive mindset. She does not believe anything she does will make a difference. And while she believes this she is right. She didnt sign up for anything - not even a walk in the park. But if she changes her mind Im ready. To lesson her reliance on her team - to caste a different set of eyes over her situation, challenge her mind and body - Ive helped others before and Ill do it again. Bit by bit, inch by inch its a cinch. Kaizen - incremental improvement - little steps add up. 14.01.2022 So. First up - I dont have cancer. But a dear friend of mine does so when I got the chance to study cancer and exercise implications - info about lymphedema, chemo and medications and their side effects, and the many surgical implications - well Ive become intrigued . Im curious - if you have or had cancer would you think of heading to an exercise session? Its a big commitment for me both time and $$ to undertake this area of study - so with eyes wide open - Id love to know if you think theres a need - or if you had a great or not so great experience Id be keen to hear about it. 12.01.2022 Im learning all about cancer complication lymphedema - its fascinating. Im also hearing its an area cancer survivors do not receive much information on post treatment. Is that your experience if youve had cancer? The course is US based so Im keen to know for Aussie survivors. Im told a simple handout with these key points would be useful. Thoughts??

11.01.2022 Would you like to RETREAT from all the demands placed on you?? I remember the very first time I went to a weekend long retreat. Id had my second baby and I was desperately tired. I was back at work, a mother of 2, my dad had had a stroke and was living in care, and my mum needed support. So did I. My husband was really supportive so I decided to attend a retreat south of Hobart. I had been doing some yoga so when this was offered by my instructor I decided to go. I must say... I felt a little guilty at first because my youngest child was just 18 months old but my best friend encouraged me to put down those heavy buckets of motherhood and re-energise. I would have more to give, be in a calmer frame of mind and a better wife and mother for taking a few days break. Those buckets, she assured me, would be so much lighter after a few days off. She is a wise woman, my best friend, and she was right. So off I went to a local retreat. It was inexpensive, the food was nourishing and prepared for me, the accommodation was simple yet somehow luxurious. I recall being really emotional when my instructor tucked a blanket around my feet I was weary to the bone and that simple act of nurturing nearly undid me. Maybe Im trying to recreate that experience with my retreats at Huon Bush Retreats. Retreats are offered all over the world and they generally include aspects of slowing down and addressing stress levels via movement, meditation, exposure to nature or forest bathing, and quietness. Foodwise you can expect wholesome and nutritious food, and many regularly cater for vegan and vegetarian eating styles, as well as any personal dietary needs you may have. Your host will probably have some specific skills or approaches you may be interested in such as learning about fermenting, or making natural body products, meditation, or mindset coaching. All in all not all retreats are the same so consider what it is you are looking for before booking in. Mine, for example are not yoga retreats - Im not yoga trained - but there will be elements that are similar - mindfulness. journalling, meditations and the food - do not under estimate me as your cook (Im a bloody good cook . . . . and a waste in my family - so I am particularly looking forward to cooking for my guests) Retreats simply are "a RETREAT from all the demands on you" - a time to be nurtured and surrender and just focus on your health. But what I offer that is next level holistic is blood work - food sensitivities, cortisol (stress hormone) testing , and blood chemical analysis - so we can be sure of whats going on inside and outside of you. Its partly about the hormones, the stresses that have you feeling depleted, the sleeplessness and fatigue, and the foods that dont suit your body type, lifestyle and predisposition.
