23.01.2022 Enrolled for JobKeeper payments, but not sure what to do next? Here are some of the most common questions the ATO are being asked. What if I get it wrong? What should I do? If you can’t self-amend using our online services you can call the ATO on 13 28 66, and they’ll help fix any genuine mistakes that have been made. The ATO have checks in place and will follow up with employers if they need more info.... I have enrolled what do I do next? Log into our online services, identify your employees (if any) and complete monthly a business declaration (when available through our systems). How long will I need to wait for the JobKeeper Payment once I’ve confirmed eligibility and completed the steps? The ATO usually make payments within 4-6 days. Looking for more info? 22.01.2022 STP Finalisation Declaration - The ATO is reminding employers to finalise payroll information through their STP provider after the last pay run for the financial year. Large employers with 20 or more employees must make a finalisation declaration by 14 July 2020. Small employers with 19 or less employers have until 31 July 2020. Employers that have finalised payroll data through STP are exempt from providing payment summaries to their employees and lodging a payment summary annual report to the ATO.

17.01.2022 Want to claim a deduction for super contributions? Did you know, super payments are only considered to be paid for the purpose of claiming a tax deduction once they have been received by the super fund, not the date the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) accepts them? To ensure you can claim a deduction for the 201920 income year, you need to allow processing time for your super payments to be received by your employees' super funds before the end of the 20...1920 income year. Payments need to be accepted by the SBSCH by 23 June 2020. Remember to check with your employees if you need to update their super fund details in your SBSCH account including, a change of ownership of a superannuation product. If there has been a change in ownership, the super fund's ABN or Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI) may have been changed for your employee’s super account. Super funds will inform members (your employees) of any such changes, which your employee should give you. There is no change to when SG quarterly payments are due, the next quarterly due date is 28 July 2020.

16.01.2022 If you purchased a rental property after 1 July 2017, your deductions could look a little bit different this tax time. If you decided to go with a second-hand option when you replaced the blinds and dishwasher, you may no longer be able to claim a deduction. Instead, these items will be taken into consideration when you sell the property down the track. For more information on how this could apply to you, go to www.ato.gov.au//Resident/Rental-expenses-you-can-t-claim/

08.01.2022 Extension of time to enrol for the JobKeeper scheme The Commissioner has extended the time to enrol for the initial JobKeeper periods, from 30 April 2020 until 31 May 2020. If you enrol by 31 May you will still be able to claim for the fortnights in April and May, provided you meet all the eligibility requirements for each of those fortnights. This includes having paid your employees by the appropriate date for each fortnight.... For the first two fortnights (30 March 12 April, 13 April 26 April), the ATO will accept the minimum $1,500 payment for each fortnight has been paid by you even if it has been paid late, provided it is paid by 8 May 2020. If you do not pay your staff by this date, you will not be able to claim JobKeeper for the first two fortnights. You can enrol and claim for JobKeeper earlier if you choose. For example, you can enrol by the end of April to claim JobKeeper payments for the two fortnights in April.

02.01.2022 Calling all teachers! It’s time to study your tax deductions so you can get an A+ on your return. See the ATO’s cheat sheet of what you can and can’t claim: You can claim working from home expenses. You can’t claim the cost of gifts you buy for your students or any time you pay for their personal expenses (e.g. their lunch, excursion fees or school books). You can claim self-education expenses if the course relates directly to your current job. You can’t claim a deduc...tion if your study is only related in a general way to your job, or is designed to help you get a new one. You can claim a deduction when you drive between alternate workplaces for the same employer on the same day (e.g. from your school to another school to supervise an exam). Want to learn more? 02.01.2022 If any of our clients receive Child Care Subsidy and Family Tax Benefit payments from Services Australia, you and your partner must lodge your 201819 tax return by 30 June 2020. Lodgement deferrals do not alter this requirement. If you are entitled to family assistance but didn’t receive any payments in the 2018-19 financial year, you will also need to lodge a lump sum claim with Services Australia by 30 June 2020. Services Australia needs your income details to balance paym...ents for Child Care Subsidy and Family Tax Benefit. If lodgement is not made by 30 June 2020: Our clients receiving Child Care Subsidy may: ** lose their ongoing entitlement ** receive a debt and have to repay the amount received in the 201819 financial year Our clients receiving Family Tax Benefit may: ** miss out on additional payments ** receive a debt and have to repay the amount received in the 201819 financial year. If applicable, you should notify the ATO if lodgement is not required and confirm with Services Australia that you are not required to lodge. Services Australia can assist those who have special circumstances preventing them or their partner from lodging before the deadline.
