22.01.2022 Smart environment policy is smart economic policy. That's why we're investing a further $500,000 and creating a Gamba Army. Fires fuelled by Gamba grass threaten lives, property and the environment across the Top End - and we know that more action is needed to mitigate and eradicate Gamba grass. Our Gamba Army will provide targeted support in areas of significance and provide up to 45 local jobs for Territorians to assist with stimulating the economy.

10.01.2022 The Kiwis are coming! From the 16th of October, New Zealanders who aren’t from a hot spot will be allowed to visit the Northern Territory. This is the f...irst stage of the Australia-New Zealand travel zone and the Territory is getting the first big win. It is great news for our travel industry and that means it is great news for Territory jobs. The safety of Territorians is always our number one priority. Anyone who has been in a COVID-19 hot spot in New Zealand will not be allowed to come here. But if they are as safe as we are, then we are happy to have them here. The fish are biting, the beers are cold, and we can’t wait to share the Territory lifestyle with our Kiwi cousins.

04.01.2022 Are you a Laksa Legend? The Laksa Festival is back! It starts on the 26th of October. The Golden Bowl will again be awarded to the world’s best laksa. And you c...an vote for the People’s Choice laksa as well. But this year, you can be recognised too. You can be a laksa learner, liker, lover or the big one a Laksa Legend. When the Festival starts next month, download the app and rate every laksa you eat. The more laksas you buy, the closer you’ll get to finally having your status officially acknowledged as a Laksa Legend. This isn’t just about laksas, this is about jobs. The Laksa Festival puts us on the map, boosts tourism and supports local jobs. So be a Laksa Legend and back local jobs by eating as much laksa as humanly possible.

03.01.2022 It’s a big day. From midday, our hot spot declaration with Melbourne will be removed. It’s the last hot spot to go. There will no longer be restrictions on inte...rstate travel to the Northern Territory. We had a national goal to get to this point by Christmas, and we’ve reached it. For now, we will still have people on our borders and in our airports screening arrivals and collecting information, so we know who is coming here, just to be extra safe. As we saw with South Australia a few weeks ago, things can change quickly. We have to be ready to respond straight away if there is another dangerous outbreak to protect the Territory. Today also marks the start of the new COVID-safe check in system for many venues an extra layer of protection that will help us with contact tracing if we need it in the future. Over the next few days you will start to see more and more places you visit asking you to write down your contact details or scan a QR code including with the new Territory Check In app. The app is now ready to download for free on Google Play for Android users and it should be available for Apple users in the next few days, but hopefully as soon as today. Apple have been experiencing some delays over their Thanksgiving holiday period, but they are working hard to get through the backlog and we’ll let you know as soon as it’s in the App Store for you to download. We’ve introduced the check-in system so that we can be extra sure that we are extra safe to stay the safest place in Australia, even as we open back up to the rest of Australia. So as we enter Christmas and the New Year, in a new phase where Australians start moving around more, we’ve got a system that is simple, that keeps us safe, and keeps us free. This will help do that, but as Dr Heggie reminds me constantly, it’s our own personal behaviour that still matters the most. Washing your hands, keeping your distance, staying home and getting tested if you’re sick they are still the things what work best to protect us. Let’s all remember that the best defence against coronavirus isn’t the borders or a QR code it’s each of us.

02.01.2022 It is that time of year again, and what a year to recognise and celebrate the hard work of our peers and colleagues throughout the year in the Northern Territory. As well as the usual great human rights work being done in the NT each year, this year we would like to also recognise the work of those who kept us all safe and provided so many services and support to vulnerable Territorians as we prepared for and managed the COVID-19 pandemic. http://www.nthumanrightsawards.org.au/nominations/

02.01.2022 Cavenagh Street bus stop is back! This project is another Territory Government initiative to revitalising Darwin and improving amenities for commuters. With 14 different bus routes using this bus stop, we have implemented the new B-light which means buses will merge safely into the intersection before other traffic.
