21.01.2022 Last night I drove around and checked out some Christmas lights. This particular house is on the corner of Third and Giles st. The last few years the light display has been amazing. It is a credit to the owners. On Christmas Eve the yard is open to go and have a closer look. ... All the light displays are fantastic and the effort people go to brings out the Christmas spirit! 13.01.2022 Centenary of Rotary Gala Dinner held at Double tree by Hilton Darwin was a great night of reminiscing on all that Rotary do across the districts in the NT and in Timor. Rotary over the last 100years is about the past present and the future. In the past the ladies have been significant in making sandwiches and making the clubs interesting Merwyn recited a couple of quotes from the first 50 years!!... How times have changed with many clubs having women as Presidents these days and many club members as well. People, place and together is a motto that Rotary stand by being that people engage in activities across the globe in different places and unite to make changes in communities.

09.01.2022 LABOR ABANDONS VICTIMISED TERRITORIANS The latest crime statistics show the Gunner Labor Government is squarely to blame for the shocking rise in assaults, domestic violence and alcohol-related harm right across the Territory. Across the Territory, assaults have risen 20%, domestic violence is up 26% and alcohol-related assaults have climbed almost 30%.... It doesn’t matter if you live in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek or Alice Springs the spectacular failures by Labor when it comes to law and order, and alcohol policy, is creating more victims of crime and more pressure on our hard-working police. The Gunner Labor Government refused to debate the CLP’s Bail Amendment Bill 2021 on urgency last month, now Territorians are forced to fend for themselves. Chief Minister, you and your cowardly Labor team should be ashamed. Source: https://pfes.nt.gov.au//community-safe/nt-crime-statistics

08.01.2022 Members of the Unions made a stand and were vocal in letting the Gunner Government their views on the wage freeze announced last month. Approx 50 people from the ETU, AEU, UEU and ANMF were very vocal on Tuesday afternoon. Vowing to continue to lobby the Government early next year to continue their dissent.

07.01.2022 Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Clyde Fenton Primary School year 6 graduation. These dedicated students had all done very well and were well presented which is a credit to their parents, themselves and their teachers . The School captain Joe Lawrie spoke well and took out an award also.

07.01.2022 Thank you to Karen from Katherine South Primary School for the catch up. Wishing all the staff a well deserved break this year over the Christmas holidays. We look forward to working with you in the new year. Merry Christmas

07.01.2022 Last day of work for 2020! What a year it’s been. Started out campaigning till the Election in August. I won, my world changed...... It has been interesting, rewarding and the learning curve has been steep. Belinda and Jenni joined my team and we have joined groups, got out in the community, opened events, attended others, been to a lot of School concerts, attended Seniors meetings and Christmas parties, raffled for fundraisers, letterboxed our newsletters, met with concerne...d locals, emailed off to relevant areas constituents concerns. All in all it’s been a very busy 13weeks. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and happy holidays. Enjoy the break and let’s do this all again in our 21/20 year!. It is going to be the best

07.01.2022 CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT A beautiful evening listening to all the Schools and choirs singing all your favourite carols.

06.01.2022 What a beautiful sight to see. Finally after a long dry difficult year we get a reprieve, flush the algae down that was growing in the river and slowly fill up the aquifers......... this is just the start to what I hope is a very good wet season.

06.01.2022 What a beautiful display of lights. Each year in Loxton the community get together and put up Christmas lights that people from near and far come and see. Peter Mangelsdorf has been lighting up and providing the community an amazing display of lights in themes for 36 years. I remember going as a child and taking my children also when we returned for Christmas. If in SA and more so the Riverland, Loxton lights up each year and it is a credit to their volunteers and council that work together to make it happen each year

05.01.2022 The Government centre is having a renovation and the Health area is moving to Second st. From 11th January all services will operate from 11 Second st. Merry Christmas to all

05.01.2022 Fishos hung out to dry by false Labor promises Just before the 2020 Territory Election, on 6 August 2020, the Gunner Labor Government triumphantly announced that ‘recreational fishing access to Aboriginal-owned NT coastal waters will continue until at least the end of 2022’. The Media Release, from Michael Gunner and Selena Uibo, went on to state that ‘a new agreement’ had been ‘signed’ and strongly implied that it was a done deal.... Mr Maley said: Yesterday, fishermen in the Territory learned that there was apparently no such definitive agreement and as of 1 January, permits would be required for vast sections of the coastline. The Chief Minister needs to explain precisely what has happened and whether he intentionally misled Territorians ahead of the election. Closing off vast areas and requiring unspecified permits in others will likely have a devastating impact on the tourism, recreational and commercial fishing sectors at a time when our economy can least afford it, Mr Maley continued. Based on the understanding from the Gunner Labor Government that nothing would change until 2022, tourism operatorsalready hard hit by COVID-19made bookings, invested in boats and purchased new gear, only to now have the rug pulled out from underneath them. During Budget Estimates, the CLP Opposition was told by the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs that $500,000 of the $10 million had already been paid to the NLC. Payment of any monies should have been conditioned on an outcome, namely the extension of permit-free fishing in the Territory to 2022. If this was not the case, the Chief Minister needs to come clean on exactly what the ‘agreement’ was and why he misled Territorians. He must also inform Territorians of any additional monies that may have been paid and what will be done with the remaining $9.5 million he promised to the NLC. Once again, it appears that the Gunner Labor Government was only interested in winning an election, not protecting the interests of Territorians. The Chief Minister must immediately explain what he will do to fix this situation before the 1 January deadline, whether he is on holiday or not, Mr Maley said. Katherine Game Fishing Club Inc.

05.01.2022 ATTENTION UPDATE!!

05.01.2022 Be mindful when travelling around the NT that you stay alert and drive to the conditions. You do NOT want to be another NT statistic ! Have a safe and happy New Year

04.01.2022 It has come to my attention whilst door knocking, letterboxing and also through the community that there is a lot of caltrop around on verges. Let’s help stop the spread of Caltrop (Tribulus cistoiedes and Tribulus terrestris), this weed is a Class B weed and is spreading wildly through the town of Katherine at this time of year is easily identified by its yellow flower and if left unattended causes issues to cyclists, pedestrians and pets as after it flowers it produces a ho...rrible thorn that even penetrates bike tyres and is then spread further. We can all assist in stopping this spread by reporting the weed when you see it to the following relevant bodies The link below is where you can report any major weed outbreaks. mailto:[email protected] https://nt.gov.au//0016/252133/declared-weeds-in-the-nt.pdf

04.01.2022 Congratulations to Craig and Kerry Glass on their stint at Haileybury Rendall School in Darwin. Craig came in at a point where the School was re-establishing itself and a huge cultural change was needed. Staff morale was low and in the space of three years Craig and Kerry along with other dedicated staff have turned it around. Enrolments have gone from 250 to 770 in a short period of time. Congratulations and I wish you both all the best back in Melbourne.

04.01.2022 Yesterday in estimates the Minister for remote housing and town camps was asked ,what is the cost of an average house to build in a community? We were told $450k! On Monday I asked the Education Minister about an ablution block being built in a remote community that was costing $750k I asked if it had showers, was there any other rooms or was it part of a house? No was the answer, just an ablution block.... My point being if it’s $750 for a toilet block, I would think the amount of $450k average for a house is slightly out.

03.01.2022 Thanks to Ben Coutts for inviting us to the Nutrien Ag Christmas party at The Katherine Club. Great to catch up with a heap of people I haven’t seen in awhile and great that they support the ICPA with a bursary that I will judge this Wednesday

03.01.2022 Thank you to the Seniors for an enjoyable Christmas lunch at the Katherine Club. Seniors contribute to the community in a variety of ways raising funds by the raffles they hold, going on outings around town and sometimes a bit further afield Everyone had a good afternoon and the raffle winners were very excited to be receiving an enormous amount of goodies so close to Christmas. The raffle donated by Ron Hersey was won by Tony at the Ibis (Chopping board) and also Merrilyn St...opp( walking stick) Thanks to Lori, Jill, Yvonne and Lorna on organising a great lunch and a good gathering of Seniors
