24.01.2022 Public service announcement on the price of gin! Starting from the 1st of Feb, Gin (and all other spirits) got a lil bit more expensive as excise rates (the t...ax on alcohol) Increased as they do usually every 6 months. For the producers this equates to a 700ml bottle at 40%alc getting taxed an extra 22cents. All up thats $24.55 per bottle of excise tax. Oh and we pay GST ontop of that amount! Say its an $80 bottle of Aussie gin. That's a Juicy $31.82 to the ATO. So as I always preach, and for any gin lovers who ask the question, "why is gin so expensive!?" Before the distiller even makes the products, buys the glass, designs the label pays for rent, staff etc etc then factoring in say a 20% wholesale discount to get it into a bottle shop. Well over half what the distiller gets for the bottle goes to tax and there isn't a whole lot left after that!! So while there are a lot of legendary bottle shops helping get Aussie products out there. When you can, try your best to shop direct with the distillery and get behind your local producers when you can x A whole lot of passion, blood sweat and tears have gone into every bottle and they will love you for it Cheers legends,
