25.01.2022 A story I penned a couple of days back after hearing about the plight of farmers in regional Queensland. It's reassuring that there are ideas being looked at and trialed in order to address this glaring problem.
25.01.2022 Whether you used a newspaper in the 1930s to call for the return of your lost horse or use Facebook today, it's clear the messages haven't changed - just the medium.
23.01.2022 The cause may never be known.
22.01.2022 Please share! This is a free yarn, let's get Zeus home.

15.01.2022 This is a free read so please share far and wide to help this wonderful local family who are saving the lives of farm animals.
14.01.2022 Police do an awesome job out at Childers and Woodgate and it's awesome they're there to support school leavers who take a break in the coastal town.
14.01.2022 I always like to give a voice to the everyday people standing up to improve their communities. They're so often the tireless champions.
14.01.2022 I believe it's important to have open conversations around news. I became a journalist because I wanted to do good in the world, and most journalists are in the industry for this exact reason. It's a job with sometimes very long hours and it rarely comes with an excessive pay packet. In other words, most journos are in their roles because they want to give something back to their communities. Of course, these days, news is changing. The online world is seeing to that. Once ...we'd put out a paper and we didn't (entirely) know what people were buying it for. Maybe they liked the comic, or the timetable, weather map or perhaps a story or two. Perhaps they just wanted to read something while waiting for the bus. Now stories are online. Everyone is online. This means fewer paper sales. Some print products have ceased or have been cut back. For the NewsMail, we are now appearing in the Courier Mail daily, with the rest of our coverage online. With more people than ever online, we now know which stories readers are reading. And of course, journalists can't work for free. So the stories that are the most popular are often the stories we will follow. This doesn't mean we're not covering relevant local news, because we are, regardless of popularity. It's our duty to our community. But speaking personally, as a journo, I've written some incredibly researched and hard hitting local pieces over the years that have barely been read, and then, some others that some may describe as irrelevant to the community which have been massively well read. What I'm getting at, is it's you, the reader, who has the power. The hard hitting stories need your eyes on them. Local journalism needs your support. Oftentimes we can be criticised for posting stories with a national or world focus, but often these are the stories locals are reading. The best thing you can do as a reader is to pay attention to local reporting, let us know what you want to read more of, and remember that journos are, overwhelmingly, local people in your community, living alongside you, fighting the exact same battles you are. Yes we charge for news, but cover prices on newspapers have been happening since papers began. It's just that now, our world is digital. News is seen as a service, and it is, but workers need a wage. Journalists work hard to give fair and balanced reports. Without news, there is public relations, which will only ever come one-sided. If you've made it this far, I'd love to read your thoughts in the comments below.

08.01.2022 As a journalist it's important we focus on both the good and the bad, the light and the dark. Why is this? Because journos are here to document our honest history for future generations. Got a story tip? Email me at [email protected].
06.01.2022 According to the experts, the region needs more homes, more jobs.
06.01.2022 The message is really simple - wash your hands, social distance and report anything of concern to the police instead of to social media

05.01.2022 It’s fantastic to see an outline for a plan commissioned by the agriculture and conservation sectors that can boost our environmental aspects, create jobs and give us long-term income. What other ideas do you think would bring more jobs to the region? https://www.news-mail.com.au//revealed-plan-could/4047600/

01.01.2022 Been a long night. Officially logged off at 4.30am and back to reporting again today. So sad to see a beautiful old building go, just heartbreaking. But I am so glad that people are all okay. It could have been much worse.
01.01.2022 A little (or a lot of) local history for your Monday morning
