15.01.2022 Beautiful afternoon out on country collecting leaves for a smoking ceremony. I often get asked what is country? There are multiple layers to country but they do not exist separately. Country encompasses more than just land, water and sky. Country is more than just all living animals,... plants and humans. We as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are country. Country is Identity. Country holds the wisdom of the dreaming. Country continues to hold the spirits and stories of creation. Country define relationships, societal standards and systems and protocols. Country is a sacred living being that’s is continuous. To acknowledge and pay respect to country it must be deeper than words, it’s how we interact with each other and with Mother Earth. 14.01.2022 Happy Thursday mob! Had an amazing morning out at Trinity Primary school sharing culture with year 5 & 6 students. We stared the session with a smoking ceremony then spoke about the importance and the sacredness of the ceremony. ... We then discussed the importance of country and caring for country. Also shared knowledge of creation, dreaming and traditional ways of living with and on country. Finished the session sharing song and dance with the kids. I was truly blow away with the respect shown by the kids, their amazing questions and eagerness to learn. The session was all based Yindyamarra (respect) and understanding. I met the most genuine, kind hearted man David, our conversation went way deeper and sincere than just selecting paint. We spoke about culture, society, politics, human connection and interactions!
