22.01.2022 Delighted that my book ‘Women and Leadership: Real Lives, Real Lessons’ with co-author Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is now out in the United Kingdom. Women and Leadership: Real Lives, Real Lessons, presents a lively and readable analysis of the influence of gender on women’s access to positions of leadership, the perceptions of them as leaders, the trajectory of their leadership and the circumstances in which it comes to an end. By presenting the lessons that can be learned from women... who lead, we provide a road map of essential knowledge to inspire us all, and an action agenda for change that allows women to take control and combat gender bias. Featuring: Theresa May, Jacinda Ardern, Hillary Clinton, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Michelle Bachelet, Joyce Banda, Erna Solberg, and Christine Lagarde. https://www.penguin.co.uk//women-and-le/9781787634381.html

Professor Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, organisational psychologist and author of the provocatively titled "Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders? (And How to Fix It)" joins me to talk about what makes a good leader, and why we tend to be seduced by stereotypically masculine traits like perceived confidence - at the expense of competence. 19.01.2022 Congratulations to Queensland Labor and Annastacia Palaszczuk MP - the first female Premier to win three elections! A credit to your strong leadership of Queensland.

19.01.2022 I do hope that we emerge out of this with a new dialogue around women’s leadership, a new understanding about the benefits of combining strength and empathy in our leaders, and we ask that of all leaders, men and women. It was wonderful to speak to TIME about leadership, and the current global pandemic. #TIME100Talks

18.01.2022 2020 is the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. It has also been a year where the critical role nurses play in our society has never been more apparent. 17.01.2022 Minister Greg Hunt and I have had our differences over the years. I recall some particularly strong disagreements on climate change policy! But there is one big thing we agree on the importance of vaccinations in the fight against Covid-19. I believe I have a duty to use my profile to show Australians how safe, and effective, the vaccine is. Today, I received the AstraZeneca vaccine. ... Vaccination is the most effective way to protect against infectious diseases. When you get vaccinated, you are not only protecting yourself you are helping to protect the whole community.

14.01.2022 Guest lectures to students of The University of Adelaide look very different in 2020. A big thanks to all the educators and support staff around the nation who are working so hard to keep their students engaged and on track; and well done to students who are adjusting to new ways of remote learning. I’m sure it’s not how anyone pictured their university year. I missed seeing students face to face, but I’m glad we have these means of communication available to us still. I hope it’s not too long before students can safely get back to their full campus life.

10.01.2022 Did you know that Australia paved the way for gender equality in the US? 100 years after the 19th Amendment was adopted to the US Constitution, you can read my reflections on women’s suffrage, forgotten history, and the way forward: https://www.brookings.edu/essay/a-global-story/ The women who led the way 100 years ago can inspire us to seize this moment and create that better, more gender equal future.

03.01.2022 Today is International Women’s Day. A day for celebration and recognition of the progress we have made towards gender equality. Perhaps this year, more than others past, it is also a time to acknowledge there is still plenty more than needs to be done, and that the progress we have made needs to be fiercely protected. I have spoken to many women in recent weeks who feel frustrated and concerned perhaps even sad or angry - that women are still having to battle for personal s...afety and professional respect in the workplace, including the home of our democracy, Australian Parliament House. I agree that our progress to equality is not moving fast enough and that sometimes the challenges seem insurmountable. But experience tells me progress is rarely ever linear, and it’s usually always hard fought. So in response, we must redouble our efforts. Ultimately, I’m hugely optimistic we can get there. Every day I am contacted by people working towards a fairer future. Their strength and conviction keeps me going. So, of course, celebrate today. But think about tomorrow. We can all ask ourselves, ‘what more can I do to work towards a fairer future for all women and girls?’ For me, I want to see more women in leadership positions influencing how and why decisions are made on behalf of women. It’s a task I am dedicating much of my post-politics career to achieving. We can all women and men - achieve great things when we work together. When we speak out. When we demand better - because we deserve better! Happy International Women’s Day. #womenlead #IWD2021
