25.01.2022 LIVE SHOW! Keep calm. Just kidding, get excited! I'm bringing my BELOVED BAND and sneaking in some special guests. What better way to start the long weekend than kicking back at Petersham Bowling Club for Sydney's best named music night, For Folk Sake https://www.facebook.com/events/921765448558196

23.01.2022 If you'd like a playlist curated by my human brain algorithms, I've put one on Spotify, of stuff I love right now. Don't play it on shuffle, it's in the right order - gentle beginnings, taking a steep climb in to some slouchy rock and exhaling in to the alt country realm, where things get a bit psych, we swing past my new single and then finish up with some shimmering low key alt pop with slick af production. In my childhood and teenage years, mixes were revered and precious..., passed between my audiophile father and his friends like smuggled goods and handed down to me as formal musical education. They started boldly, and deftly ushered you to places you couldn't have predicted. Some of them are still in my glove box. If you'd like me to make a playlist with any particular theme, let me know - I wanna to get back to my A-game. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7wiNOmXxZaghSWYxiQOjm9

22.01.2022 Good evening, I'm going to go live on insta and play a song or two at 9:30pm AEST, and then consider a side-career as a dog portrait photographer

22.01.2022 I have a genuine question for elder-millenials and parents/older siblings thereof... Do you recognise the song from these closing credits? I'm literally obsessed, I have loved it since I was a wee lass. Iconic golden era of childhood TV IMHO. Is it too obscure to cover? Usually artists cover famous songs with their own unique twist... But I suspect this might not be famous enough. Does that even matter? Thoughts pls! xx https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXEHA6-5J-M

21.01.2022 Just as I thought I'd played all my gigs for the year, this sweet lil house concert will increase my number of gigs by 30%! (so, 3 gigs in 2020.) I'll be testing out some New Songs in the spirit of the New Normal xx https://www.facebook.com/events/118072066668032/

21.01.2022 So lovely to be nestled amongst some fine new tunes to discover! Thanks Kim Yang Music

20.01.2022 Two weeks until @forfolksakesydney and I certainly didn't just look up my own song on Spotify to remember the chords, THAT'S for sure. (Guess who earned 0.002c at their OWN rehearsal )

19.01.2022 After that wonderful gig a few weeks back, I was happy and full of resolve to do some more livestream gigs and be all digitally savvy and find ways to connect to ppl with my music online like 'the industry' says to, but instead I just hid under a rock (pictured). It was really nice under the rock and I wrote about 6 new songs. Life is funny and rocks are comfy and that's ok right now

19.01.2022 Woah just found an iconic setlist in amongst some ancient receipts Fond memory overload!

19.01.2022 Imagine if I tuned this thing in between every song like a lead guitarist #autoharp #tuuuuuune

18.01.2022 It feels so abstract to hear of the loss of a venue we can't even go to right now. Cafe Lounge was one of the first venues I played when I moved to Sydney. Warm colours, layers of cheap & cheerful decorations, friendly staff and big toy plastic animals instead of numbers for when you ordered food. A comfy, playful and welcoming place - everything you need your bar to be. I happened to play there on the night we won marriage equality and have never been so happy to be drowned out by joyful people. Farewell @cafeloungesydney pic by @jrmounsey!

17.01.2022 Do you like song exploder podcast? I never got super in to it, so I'm doing my own version tomorrow night, LIVE (streamed) for Breathe Him In. Woo! I'll show you some demos and mood boards and my weird process for this song and I promise it will be entertaining and full of my unique brand of #overshares.

17.01.2022 Wow. On this day TEN years ago, we launched the album 'Family Pets' at @thestreetcbr - and it remains one of the greatest gigs I have ever played. This week I'll be tripping down memory lane #familypets #deepseasirens

15.01.2022 Trying out fingerpicks so I can sound fingerlickin good for YOU. Also I made up a game where you find a cheesy chord, and try to make a chord progression that makes it sound cool not cheesy! Now I love A major 7 The game will be called 'Cheesy Chord's Cool Friends'

15.01.2022 I just had a look, 730 people have viewed the gig I streamed on here a few weeks back. I don't think I've ever booked a venue that can even hold 300, let alone 730. I'm suitably chuffed, you guys. You are more than just numbers, all 730 of youse. Especially number 69 lol. https://business.facebook.com/juliajohnsonmusic/videos/165686024765800/

15.01.2022 This time last week I was singing through the computer to you, live from my mum's converted garage aka my pandemic penthouse. I sang some new songs and some old ones, not to mention a cover that may well be amongst your earliest memories You can watch it on my FB page, or keep an eye out, I'll do another live stream soon. Sending love to you especially if you're living in your parents' house right now! Or if your kids have moved back home. It is at once a chance for reconnection, regression, stress, joy and everything in between. I think there's a song in it...

14.01.2022 Suddenly flooded with VERY EXCITED VIBES at the prospect of playing in front of visible faces at @succulentsessions this afternoon! New songs! Old songs! Same silly idiot! I think there are spots left if you fancy a sweet afternoon of sweetness from 5pm AEDT

14.01.2022 It would seem that by trying to write for an album, I am only able to write for not the album. I nearly have enough songs for a full-length not-album. So I'm not writing for an album anymore, let's see where that gets me... Maybe I'll crowdfund and you can all pay me to NOT make an album and then I'll give you a new album for free one week later

12.01.2022 I feel personally attacked by First Dog on the Moon, there's nothing wrong with brushing up on a bit of autoharp in these trying times! (more to the point, its actually so easy to play, you don't really need to learn it. That's why its called the autoharp, not the manual-harpBADOOM-TING.) https://www.theguardian.com//lockdown-2-some-handy-dos-and

11.01.2022 Hey friends, if you like raw musical emotion tinged with a bit of folk, or singer-songwriters whose lyrics and live performances are impeccably good, then come to this gig with me! My beyond-talented friends Alyx Dennison and Jack Colwell are performing live on fb on Sunday at 7pm to celebrate the launch of Jack's album 'Swan Dream' (produced by goddess Sarah Blasko, no less). We can sit next to each other in the virtual ether and comment 'oooohhhhh' and heart emojis, but there's probably no emoji that will truly capture the wonderfulness tbh. https://www.facebook.com/events/5282597148432980/

09.01.2022 The more colourful plastic buttons, the groovier the organ. #fact

09.01.2022 Tickets are selling, certain people are practicing the outro to 'Hatchets' on their autoharps, bands are messaging each other about gear sharing, a gig is truly happening on Thursday night! Ticket link is in my bio. ALSO: If you think I'm a seriously whistful and serious musician, don't be fooled. Watch til the end.

08.01.2022 Hey friends, I'm going to do a livestream here tomorrow night at 8pm AEST, airing out some brand new songs! Tune in if you're in the mood for a whimsical lovely song-time with me. I'd love to hear what you think of the new ones and would genuinely love to digitally hang out xx https://www.facebook.com/events/714647715982170/

06.01.2022 When the tour got cancelled, I didn't think about how this wonderful video @jrmounsey shot wouldn't get seen! I was saving it to promote the tour gigs, but instead please enjoy this video of the last gig we played, for no reason except ITS SO PRIDDY.

06.01.2022 BTS from tonight's gig I was nestled in beside my make-shift kitchen. My mum's photography lights made it look very lovely indeed, thanks mum! And thanks YOU for watching if you did. It's on FB if you wanna have a look. Fast forward a minute in if you watch, I had zero technical issues, but I thought I did, so I look silly at the start hehe

04.01.2022 Still dawdling down memory lane. I spent so long perfecting the shape of all of the shadow puppet projections, it bothers me to this day that I never actually turned around to look at them on the big screen properly... : 'Pling #familypets #memorylane #shadowpuppets

03.01.2022 Deep Sea Catherine Not many people can sing gorgeous harmonies as well as flick between double bass and cello! Yup, two instruments with no frets, and different distances between notes. She also introduced me to heaps of good music on the highways when we toured. @catherineakeely pic by @plingpx
