24.01.2022 sleep pattern reset tips Following on from the importance of sleep here are three important tips to consider: get morning light exposure daily. A minimum of 30 minutes before 10am to help regulate cortisol secretion. Avoid sunscreen and sunglasses to expose the skin to synchronise the body clock to the cycles of light and dark. Exposing eyes to light regulates the pituitary and pineal glands involved in hormone production and regulation.... make time for sun and fresh air exposure during the day. Vitamin D is so important too. Walk at lunch time if you’re office bound, or get up earlier and walk the block before breakfast... dim the lights 2 hours before bedtime to signal the body to go to sleep and produce the sleep inducing hormone melatonin. Artificial light from TV and screens will throw off circadian rhythms over time. Sleep well
24.01.2022 GIVE YOUR BRAIN A REST.... The brain uses more energy than any other organ. Mental tasks burn oxygen and glucose just as physical ones do. MULTITASKING...when you scroll through your phone& try to prepare dinner at the same timeis actually challenging to the brain and expends more energy making you less productive.... MONOTASKING...when you concentrate on one activity at a time will allow you to accomplish more tasks and conserve energy.
23.01.2022 Broccoli ... love it or hate it this vegetable is packed with liver boosting benefits. The compound indole can lower the risk of cancer and help prevent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. So do as you Mother always said and eat your greens
20.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? Inhaling intruders such as an allergen, dust, pepper or perfume, or suddenly being exposed to bright light - a phenomenon called the photic sneeze reflex, or ACHOO ( autosomal compelling helioophthalmic outburst) causes us to sneeze. Air from the mouth and nostrils is expelled at roughly 160 km an hour and each sneeze can produce up to 40,000 droplets , which can travel up to 3 metres. So, remember folks to sneeze into the crook of your arm or please use a tissue.
20.01.2022 Do you want your fresh fruit and veggies preserved with an emulsifier Apeel Sciences have applied to FSANZ to allow an additive to be used on fresh fruit and ve...ggies (including organic) to preserve their shelf life. This is not required to be declared. We do not know what source it is derived from. When I have looked into Apeel Sciences, I can see that it is a plant derived emulsifier, but no further information is provided. Typically, this additive, if plant based is derived from the following oils: Palm oil Soybean oil Rapeseed oil Sunflower oil Cottonseed oil I don't know about you, but I keep these oils out of our diet and choose healthier oils! Why would I want a derivative of these oils on my fresh fruit and veggies? You won't know if this has been applied and you certainly won't know which ingredient (oil) they have used to derive these fatty acids. The European Union have only permitted this processing aid to be used on fruits that have inedible skins. Not to be used on any vegetables. If you prefer to have your fruit and veggies as nature intended, please take one minute to sign this petition (in the comments below) and tag your family and friends that may also want to be informed of this. I will attach the petition to the Additive Free Kids submission to FSANZ opposing the application of E471 as a processing aid to our fresh fruit and vegetables. #cottonseedoil #palmoil #sunfloweroil #soybeanoil #inflammatoryoils #emulsifier #471 #healthbeforeprofits #peoplebeforeprofits #haveyoursay #beheard #thetimeisnow #additivefree #additivefreekids #additivefreekidscommunity #additivefreeadvocates

17.01.2022 One evening my mother made dinner after a hard day's work. She put a plate of eggs, salad and burnt toast in front of my father... I immediately noticed, the bu...rnt toast.... And, I was waiting to see if he was going to complain about it, but my father started to eat them, smiling and asked me how I spent my day at school... My mom apologized to my dad for the burnt toast. I will never forget his response to her: "Honey, I love burnt toast!" Later when I went to bed and my dad came over to kiss me goodnight, I asked him if he really liked the burnt toast? He hugged me and said, "Your mother has had a difficult day and she is really tired. She went out of her way to prepare this meal for us, why blame her and hurt her. Burnt toast never hurt anyone; but words can be very painful!" We have to know how to appreciate what others do for us, even if it's not perfect, because it's the intention to do well that counts, and no one is perfect...

12.01.2022 BUTTER vs MARGARINE The key difference between butter and margarine is the fatty acid content.... Butter is high in saturated fats and margarine is rich in polyunsaturated fats. Polyunsaturated fats are considered healthier BUT some margarines contain TRANS FATS which have been linked to health problems.... Butter and grass fed butter in particular, is less processed and rich in Vitamin K 2, butyrate and omega 3 fatty acids which is important for brain,& heart health and foetal development. Margarine is rich in heart healthy polyunsaturated fats and plant sterols, budget friendly and suitable for those following diet restrictions. When choosing a margarine opt for one free of hydrogenated fats to reduce trans fat intake.

09.01.2022 TASTEBUD TEMPTATIONS Why do we crave these foods? Food manufacturers know that the salt-fat-sugar combo lights up the reward centre of our brain making it hard to say no. They also look for new ways to manipulate our taste buds e. g. Crunch factor of chips & crisps, advertising juicy burgers that begin the salivation process. ... How to begin to slash the cravings? 1. Note your triggers.. is there a pattern? Keep a food diary and note when and what was happening... time of day, mood, situation. 2. Reduce the sugar... check sugar content in sauces, stop adding to coffee, sprinkle less on breakfast cereals etc. 3. Swap juice for fruit, make your own salad dressing, replace biscuits for whole grain crackers, swap soda drinks for mineral water and add lemon slices. 4. Check food labels..the ingredients are listed from highest to lowest in quantity so if sugar is in the first 3 then its likely to be high in content! 5. Create new habits... if a dessert follows every meal change it to a delicious peppermint or licorice tea, limit sweet treats in the house to avoid temptation. 6. Factor in non- food rewards... walk after dinner, run a beautiful bubble bath, read that book thats been on the shelf for months! 7. Get a good nights sleep... food cravings increase when we are tired so choose wisely on those days and beat the TASTEBUD TEMPTATIONS.

03.01.2022 SEROTONIN...a chemical that has the ability to promote wellbeing and happiness. Its primarily produced in our gut ( approximately 90%). It cannot cross to the brain so our brain produces its own serotonin ( approximately 5%) that helps regulate mood, appetite, learning and behaviour.

02.01.2022 NIKSEN... have you heard of this? It’s the practice of doing nothing. Sounds simple, right?? Many of us who are used to ticking things off & achieving goals find ‘doing nothing’ difficult. Experts say it’s really worth the effort for long term health benefits from stress relief, better sleep and handling day to day stresses better.... GETTING STARTED Give yourself permission to do nothing & acknowledge this time as necessary for your wellbeing. Start small- try 5 minutes Extend the time by a minute or two each time you sit down Notice your thoughts& feelings that come to you during this time and allow them to come and go without judgement Schedule sessions for the same time each day to form a habit for your mind and body

01.01.2022 TUESDAY TEASER..answer SLEEP!!!... Did you know humans are the only species that deprive ourselves of sleep for no apparent gain?? There is no substitute for sleep. SO WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?? Sleep allows the body to shut down, rest and repair tissue damage, perform physical activities with energy, deal with inflammation, consolidate and refresh the learnings of the day, and detoxes our brain via glymphatics to name a few. The best time for repair and regeneration is between 10pm -6am. Physical repair occurs between 10pm and 2am after that mental repair is the focus. Therefore, if you go to sleep late the benefits of fully recharging are compromised.
01.01.2022 R U OK? Not really... no Keep talking... Im listening... really listening...
