24.01.2022 ARE YOU A PUSHOVER In a conversation with a leader, he shared with me the frustration he was feeling about his team. He felt they don’t respect him. ... Digging deeper into this, he shared many examples of how the team was taking advantage of him and ignoring the basic rules of engagement! When I asked what he was doing about this there was a bit of an awkward moment when he said he hadn’t had the energy or time to address it. Herein lies the problem tolerance of poor behaviour. How can you earn respect if: a) You don’t have boundaries b) You don’t have standards What are you asking people to respect Being a pushover is not going to help you be respected. As a leader, you need to be very clear about: Your moral compass; What you will and won’t compromise; and What the accepted behaviours for your organisation are Then you need to hold people accountable to that including yourself. The more you let people get away with what they shouldn’t the more they will do it. #leadership #rolemodel #respect #boundaries

How does this influence your opinion of them Not only is this behaviour frustrating - it totally erodes trust. TRUST is what you need to build a high performing team and strong relationships. 20.01.2022 ? When I say that I mean do you have total clarity on what your top 3 priorities are for: Your Life... Your Business Your Career Your Family And do your actions support them? Often we say we know what our top priorities are but when pushed, it seems they are out of focus. It's at that time we step out of alignment with what is really important to us and stop doing the things that are going to make us happy. That's when we feel frustrated, unfulfilled and unmotivated. Make sure you have clarity around your top 3 priorities and ensure your actions are in line with these. Otherwise, you're at risk of just doing things that aren't meaningful and wasting your precious time. 16.01.2022 As a leader - do you feel the need to try and make people happy or to fix everything that is wrong? It was something I tried to do very early on in my leadership journey and boy did I fall flat on my face! I learnt very quickly that by trying to do that I was not only disempowering people, I was also not making 'everyone' happy and only exhausting myself! ... Lessons learnt: 1 As a leader you can’t fix everything for everyone. 2 You also won’t make everyone happy. Your role is to lead that is your responsibility and that comes with the need to be decisive, courageous, hold people accountable and do what is necessary. Not what feels good. Not everyone is going to like that however, you’re not there for a popularity contest, nor are you there as a parental figure, you are there to lead. #leadership #rolemodel #peoplepleaser

Have clarity around the two or three things depending on the size of the tasks you are wanting to get done and..... GO! This is HUGELY beneficial me to get my big tasks done - writing content, proposals, workshops etc - when I need 100% focus. A strong role model is comfortable to ask for feedback and listen carefully with curiosity. ... It’s important to be open to the feedback and take on board what is being said and be grateful to the people who are providing the feedback to you. If you get defensive or even deny what is being said, you have lost the opportunity for growth and disrespected the person providing the feedback.
