25.01.2022 Monday night Men’s 6pm Spartans and Butchers began the night with the Butchers lucky to get a team on the court with injury and work commitments. Looks like they may loose 2 guys for the year. No subs, 5 on the court and lucky they had a fit 15 year old to run up and down the court. Spartans tried all game but didn’t shoot as well as they have in the past few games and Butchers held their winning streak and finished the game off 46-17. Brad McAlister and Tyson Gentle doing m...ost of the scoreboard damage. 7pm Tropics and Coota Guys then played and it was a physical defensive game. Scoring going back and forward. lucky the tropics had a full bench as a few were in foul trouble and the Coota guys getting into the bonus situation in most quarters. Last 2 minutes of the game saw the lead change a number of times but the Coota guys didn’t capitalize on the Tropics foul trouble and should have been taking it to the bucket more instead of winding down the clock. The Tropics with a late basket to win by 1 point. 30-29 It was obvious the Coota guys missed their big point scorer in Hayden Penrith for the game. 8pm Phoenix and young guns Exies played last and again a close game. New Phoenix Fijian recruit Michael really started to find his feet and showed he has some speed, great shot and can he jump!!!! Michael finished off with 16 points and over half his teams score. Exies didn’t shoot as higher % as they have and blew their lead in the last quarter but the game finished in another draw for Phoenix (2 in a row) 31-31. Only 1 point separating the last 2 games. It looks like this could be our closest season yet, numerous draws and 1 point games. Butchers loosing 2 of their players may bring them back to the pack, Phoenix rising from the ashes (sorry couldn’t help it) after a slow start and the tropics finding some form. Next weeks games could see some gaps appear in the ladder or really tighten it up. Tuesday Unisex. Only one game on Tuesday night with Fitzy’s team having to forfeit due to the dreaded work issues. Cooinda court recruits played newcomers The Benchwarmers. It’s only been a few games into our new season and there has been a definite improvement in skills by some of the newcomers to the game. A few experienced players now playing and it was a pretty good game throughout. It’s great to see all the junior parents giving it a go and the kids hanging around to watch Mum/dad or family play. From all accounts and feedback people are enjoying it and we have already got some teams interested for next year. Pretty tough game for our 2 teenage referees (boy these women can be competitive ) but they did ok and will only get better as they learn. May as well throw them in the deep end to learn. The game was very close with Cooinda court getting a lead then the Benchwarmers reeling it back in. It wasn’t to the last few minutes that Cooinda court snuck ahead and won the game by a few points.

24.01.2022 Current men’s ladder after Monday nights games. Still very close between 2nd and 5th. Phoenix continue to sneak up the ladder and it will be an interesting game with Butchers next week.... The other 2 games will also consolidate teams in the top 4 or knock someone even lower. Coota guys will play Exies and Yropics hoping to stay in 4th but possibly move back up the ladder against Spartans

23.01.2022 Latest men’s ladder. Only 3 rounds to go and the final 4 looks locked in for now but positions might change. Phoenix and tropics jostle for 3/4 but can anyone grab 2nd spot from the Coota guys is the question. Phoenix and Coota play each other next week. Just a reminder that the Grand Final will be played on SATURDAY 12th December at 2pm. A presentation night and xmas party will be held at 6pm following the game. Location to be confirmed shortly.

22.01.2022 Monday night men’s results. 6pm Tropics and Spartans started the night. Close game and the younger members of the Spartans are starting to get a bit more confidence but just need to increase that and take the shots when they are available. You miss bad luck, better than multiple turnovers and no shots even attempted.... Tropics Played well and stayed in 2nd spot on the ladder, Scotty top scoring with 11 points. Final score was 35-24 Tropics way. 7pm Butchers and Phoenix faced off. Phoenix with only 5 players but 4 quick young players (sorry Craig). Butchers paid too much attention to the super fast Fijian Michael and forgot about the other players, who made them pay. Butchers had more turnovers and missed shots than points scored and it showed in their final score. Run and Gun Basketball just isn’t the best way for them to play. Phoenix are becoming the masters of the draw and in 7 games have had 3 draws, coming back and drawing level with the butchers 38-38. Young Dylan Peters top scoring for Phoenix with 14pts and Pat Sweeney 16 points for the Butchers. At least the butchers kept their undefeated status but very lucky to do so. 8pm Exies and Coota guys finished the night with another close game. Only 1 point separating them last time. The game went back and forth with lead changes but with some good shooting by the Coota guys and 25 pts from Hayden Penrith, they pulled in front. Zac Curran, 20 pts, lead a comeback by the Exies but they ran out if time in the end and went down 49-45. The ladder is getting tighter than a Melbourne COVID lockdown and with only 1 more game before the school holiday break, any team can make the final four.

22.01.2022 Do Your Kids Want to Try Something New? If so, contact us today on 69 244 680 or email Hannah on [email protected] to register.

22.01.2022 Tuesday Juniors. Some news today from BNSW that they will be attending Junee to conduct some training for the juniors. At this stage it will be on Wednesday the 7th October from 1pm to 4pm. There will be 3 age groups and they will train for an hour each group, plus it’s an introduction to 3 x 3 basketball. More info to come once we receive it but the numbers will be restricted to 18 per group, so once the details are advertised, get online to secure your kids spots. It will a...lso be a chance for parents to get involved and learn some training techniques to help out our coaches. TUESDAY NIGHT UNISEX. All four teams played on Tuesday night. On court 1 Cooinda Court played Fitzy’s Team. It was a good game with Fitzy’s starting to get better with every game they play. Cooinda court had a bit too much scoring class and defeated them but not as easily as in previous weeks. I think all the Ex-net ballers are starting to get the hang of basketball and it’s semi contact status. Butchers n co played the Benchwarmers on court 2. Butchers came out in front at the end of the game. I didn’t see the match but all reports was that is was a tough physical game. As there are a lot of new players to the game we will try to start to introduce or teach players/teams to some of the more common rules of the game each week. Just a reminder to everyone that we are still complying with restrictions so make sure you are signing in/out and following other guidelines. Next week Cooinda court v Butchers Fitzy’s v benchwarmers.

20.01.2022 Don’t forget the Community Hustle day this school holidays. Get in and register quickly as with only 18 spots per age group, they are filling up quick. There was a problem with one of the links, which should be fixed, so go to the BNSW website and register now.

18.01.2022 MONDAY NIGHT MENS BASKETBALL Monday night saw us return to the new courts for a new season. Thanks to everyone who had organized all their player registrations, court fees, turned up early and followed all our COVID requirements.... It makes the job a whole lot easier for our small committee on these first few nights and saves us chasing up payments for the next few weeks. There were some rusty old heavy bodies, bad passes, missed shots, missed rebounds and heavy breathing (and that’s just from me) but no doubt the skill level will increase over the next few weeks. 6pm game New team on the courts Coota Guys played their first game against the Spartans. They will be a team to watch especially when 2 of their team mates get on the court after breaking ankles before the season started. Talk about bad luck. The Spartans were no match for them going down 59-10 7pm Phoenix took on the Palm and Pawn Tropics in the next game. Phoenix a bit undermanned for the first game and the tropics starting off hotter than Jackie Moon in a night club and getting their first of the season 36-24 8pm Last game saw the Young guns Exies up against last seasons undefeated Butchers. Some may have thought it was a Miami Heat game with home and away strips being used by the 2 sides. A see sawing game with Butchers getting the lead then Exies catching up throughout the 4 quarters but Butchers just holding out in a close finish by 1 point, winning 49-48. Young Gun Dru finishing with a big 3 and 9 points in the last few minutes too nearly give butchers the chop. Draw for the season will be out in the next few days.

16.01.2022 First night of our unisex comp started on Tuesday night. Only one game due to some work commitments and injuries in the other sides. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery of our Vice President Jordan Walker after a pretty bad injury on the weekend at football. No doubt he will be missing from the men’s and unisex competition for a little while. Cooinda Court Recruits played against Fitzy’s firebirds and it was a fast paced game and very tight scores throughout the game but Co...oinda court finished the game on top by just 1 point. Junior basketball has recommenced and our first training runs and games also started last night. A junior meeting will be held soon to discuss/plan our next junior gala day, Ed will let you know the meeting date in the next few weeks. So get the kids down there for practise and we can start looking at numbers and teams. Hopefully after school holidays we will hold this Gala Day. teams 8/10/12/14’s.

14.01.2022 Junee Basketball Members and parents. As basketball is due to start again next week, we need to inform you of some restrictions and guidelines in relation to the current COVID 19 Pandemic. As we utilise the Junee Recreation centre, it already has in place a COVID plan and certain guidelines we must follow, we also have our own. Please as you make your way around the facility take the time to read and follow the restrictions in place. Particularly signing in, use of change ro...oms and hand sanitizer. As we are using an indoor facility there are specific guidelines we must follow for basketball. Below are some of the more important ones and we will speak to teams etc to elaborate on others once we start back. 1. Entry to the Rec centre is to be only by the main doors at the front of the building. You MUST SIGN IN on arrival, every person in attendance must have their details recorded. Might be an idea to get to games or training a little earlier to avoid groups of people gathering in the foyer. Social distancing rules still apply. 2. EXIT will be via the fire doors next to the RPM room. No entry via these doors. We don’t want large groups of people crossing over from leaving and arriving at the venue. 3. The Rec centre has a number of hand sanitizer locations in the foyer. We will be providing a number of locations in the stadium for hand sanitizer. 4. At the exit door (outside) will be a basketball disinfectant solution, please utilise this on your way out. It is to stay outside so we don’t spill liquid on our brand new floor. 5. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own water bottles and basketballs but obviously don’t share and please take bottles with you. Anything left behind will be put in the bin. We will still provide kids basketballs for training if they don’t have one. All balls will be disinfected after use. 6. IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE UNWELL DO NOT ATTEND GAMES OR TRAINING. Stay home. 7. Spectators or parents must still adhere to social distancing whilst in the grandstands (unless you are from the same family group) These guidelines are by no means comprehensive and the committee will update teams/parents and carry out others eg disinfecting the score benches and other areas after each use. Please work with us whilst we all continue to adhere to the guidelines in relation to COVID 19. The last thing we want is to have someone infected at a game or our competition shutdown because we are not adhering to certain rules. Thanks in advance for your time and patience.

14.01.2022 Monday night men’s basketball. 6pm Spartans played the Tropics in the first game. Tropics struggling for some numbers but starting with 5 on the court and started off on fire thanks to a game high of 27 pts from Scotty, including 5 from beyond the arc.... Spartans regrouped and started closing the gap. Couple of the younger guys starting to take on the tropics, driving to the basketball and reaping the rewards. The hidden sniper in the stands then came into play and a calf injury to an experienced spartan and an ankle injury to a tropics player changed up the game. Spartans fought back through Matt Mcghie (9pts) Levi Sheather and Noah McGhie both hitting 8 points but couldn’t catch the tropics. Tropics winning 37-33. 7pm Big clash of the round with Butchers and Phoenix playing. Phoenix led the game right through the first 3 quarters. Good defense by Phoenix and Butchers turnovers killing them yet again, reverting back to 1 out ball and not playing to their strengths. Michael Biligi again scoring well with 22 points and Tyler Hier dropping some pretty out there shots with 8 points. 3 quarter time chat from the butchers saw them come out in the last quarter and revert back to some better basketball. They grabbed the lead for the first time and extended it. Finishing the game off, winning 47-38. Smudge smith and Brad Slattery both scoring 19 points. The loss for Phoenix only their 3rd for the season and a team butchers really have to watch and step up when they play them. 8pm No game at 8pm for the Coota Guys after the Exies failing to appear and forfeiting.

13.01.2022 MENS COMP Below is the ladder after our first 5 rounds, all teams now playing each other once. It’s a very very tight ladder with draws, 1 point games and close finishes. Phoenix finally get a win after 2 draws in a row, Butchers remain undefeated for now but it’s a long season. Game results are coming down to available players and who just plays better on the night. Should be a cracking finals series come the end of the year. Monday night games.... 6pm Butchers lined up against the Coota Guys. Big point Scorer Hayden Penrith back for the Coota guys and didn’t let anyone down, top scoring with 18pts for the match. Butchers just showed a little bit more composure, played to their strengths, slowed the game and went to their big men inside. Tyson Gentle top scored for the Butchers with 16 points (1 more than Dad) and is enjoying the increase in court time and responsibility. New recruit Brad Slattery showed he can play a bit and hopefully the butchers get some of their injured players back soon but won 52-43. 7pm Phoenix were looking for their first win and didn’t disappoint. They beat the Spartans 65-30. Michael Biligi has been a real find and the boy from Fiji scored 24 pts for the game, sometimes people wondering just how the heck did he score that basket? The Foley men are really enjoying having a few young blokes in the side and the mix of experience is working well with the youth. If it wasn’t for a forfeit, Phoenix would be up the ladder more and 4 teams would be under a game apart. Spartans played well and their young players just need to take the game on a bit more. In a 5 minute period they scored 10-15 pts (half their final score) by simply starting to take some chances and nailing some good shots. 8pm Tropics and Exies played last and it was a game that probably both want to forget. Tropics have been on fire their first 4 games but just could not get the ball in the basket. They have been shooting well but not on Monday. Exies were a bit the same and low shooting %, turnovers cost both teams. Exies need to use big man Blake motumbo Wright more, defensively he is killing it and must have had double figures in blocks. Final score was only 34-24. 3 more rounds until we break for school holidays

11.01.2022 MENS BASKETBALL Draw for Monday night (tomorrow) 6pm. Spartans v Coota Guys... 7pm. Phoenix v Tropics 8pm. Butchers v Exies Please get to your games early to sort out your rego and court fees if you haven’t paid on line. unregistered players are not allowed on the court. Court fees must also be paid before playing. Please be aware of the requirements for entry and playing. Sign in at the main entrance and sign out at the fire exit. This is a requirement by Law. If there is a line up, be patient, wait outside and observe social distancing requirements. NSW Health officials and Police have been conducting checks at Sporting Events and other venues. We can face fines or be shut down for non compliance. Any dramas please speak to us tomorrow night

11.01.2022 Our long Post COVID season is just about to finish. Let’s say goodbye to 2020 with a pool party. Free entry is for registered juniors only.

11.01.2022 JUNIOR BASKETBALL Juniors will return to training on Tuesday 11th. High school kids train from 4pm to 5.30pm. ... 10-12 year olds from 4.30pm to 5.30pm 5-10 year olds from 5.30pm to 6.15pm. Don’t forget to check on your child’s registration and make sure they are currently registered. We have a number of events in the pipeline including a junior gala day. BNSW has also contacted me today with a view to running a number of coaching clinics during the next school holidays. Junee Basketball Ass has also been invited to join the newly formed South Western Murrumbidgee Conference. Something that existed 30 years ago and involves associations from Griffith, Leeton, Narrandera, West Wyalong, Temora, Wagga and Albury. A Junior Carnival is being organised at Albury on the 17/18 October. The possibility of some representative basketball for the kids. Our Junior days are when we must be vigilant with regards to our COVID requirements. With large numbers of kids attending (and parents) please read our previous post regarding those requirements. See you again on Tuesday

10.01.2022 UNISEX BASKETBALL Next Tuesday 11th August will see our unisex competition return. After a successful start to our new comp last season, we only managed a few games, players are keen to get back on the court. Most players had registered prior to shutting down but anyone who has not registered with BNSW will not be able to play. Court fees must also be paid prior to playing, please pay the $30 on line or see us early on Tuesday afternoon.... Draw for Tuesday is 6.30pm Court 1 Butchers v Cooinda Court Court 2 Fitzy’s team v Matt’s team Bye Shooting stars Please also follow the Rec centre and our COVID requirements whilst at the games Any women out there looking for a game, please contact us as we have a team looking for some players

08.01.2022 Men’s ladder after Monday nights games. 2 rounds to go and then finals. Top 4 set now and any results will not effect the matchups in those games.

08.01.2022 Monday night saw the 3rd round of our men’s competition. 6pm After 2 one point losses the Exies were after their first win against the Spartans. Spartans also after their first win and although unsuccessful this round They are getting better each week and won’t be far off getting the chocolates.... Exies were just too good, too fast on the night and won 54-36 but the mix of old and young in the Spartans are starting to click. 7pm Newcomers Coota guys were up against Phoenix. Phoenix with a couple of new guys and Fijian flyer Michael impressed with his first game. The addition of another teenager brought the average age of the Phoenix down a bit. A close game throughout the 4 quarters and a bit of youthful inexperience toward the end saw Phoenix blow their lead and a last second foul saw Bailey Sawyer head to the charity stripe for 2 free throws and 1 point down. 1 free throw made and a draw 39-39. 8pm The Tropics have been on fire the first 2 rounds and came up against the Butchers who haven’t lost since last years GF, the Tropics hitting everything from the 3 point line. 24 of their 38 points coming from downtown but they had no answer for go go gadget Smudge smiths height and long arms. Self proclaimed MVP patch Guthrie had his career best of 10 points and the butchers just hung on winning 43 to 38. Tropics really have improved over the past few seasons and may be the dark horse this year. The ladder below is really tight 3 rounds in and each week will see important games. Unisex Comp had its 2nd round on Tuesday night. Newcomers, The Benchwarmers, had a great start to their season against Fitzy’s team and had a good win. Game being played in great spirit. Butchers played Cooinda court recruits in the other game and from what I heard the butchers have easily replaced their injured captain by recruiting another sister in law. Cooinda court down a couple of players suffered its first lost and will be keen to get back to the winners list. Both unisex games are played at 6.30pm Next week Butchers v Fitzy’s Cooinda court v Benchwarmers

07.01.2022 Monday night men’s basketball only saw 2 games after Phoenix forfeited due to tragic circumstances. Our thoughts go out to the Hilton and Foley family, Coolamon Community, MX community (which includes some of our juniors) after the tragic incident at Yarragundry last Sunday. 6pm game. Coota guys took on the Spartans. Spartans only starting with 4 players but they had one of their best games this year thanks to a game high 25pts from Aaron Schachtner.... Mick Duncan topped scored for the Coota guys with 18 pts. It was a game for the bigger guys inside and the Spartans started to back themselves a bit more and it showed on the scoreboard but the Coota guys kept about a 10 point buffer most of the game and won 57-43. 7pm Butchers took on Exies and after a 1 point loss in the first round, Exies thought they were a chance but Butchers finally got a near full strength team on the court and it showed. With a full and fit side on the court I don’t think anyone will be able to combat their size, their power inside, shooting power and speed. It showed in the final score line, butchers winning 64-28 with a good scoring spread amongst the players. Brad Slattery top scoring with 12 and Tyson Gentle with 11pts.

07.01.2022 Juniors and unisex still continue on Tuesday nights. Our junior numbers starting to increase again and placing some demand on our coaches. Our under 10 age groups are starting to build up again and we had to split into 3 groups again last night. We may need some parents to step up now and then, too help out with the really young kids. Bigger groups don’t allow kids to benefit the most from the training, that’s why we split them up into age groups or skill levels as best we c...an. Junior training will continue for another few weeks. On December 8th between 4pm-6pm there will be no training but we will be holding a pool xmas party for them, with a few presentations for some children. The water slide has been booked and entry will be free for all juniors that are currently registered. Unisex will also continue for another few weeks but the last game will be 1st December. Last night the Cooinda court recruits played Fitzy’s team. Cooinda court ran out winners but both teams starting to shoot a lot better and playing a lot better than their first games of the season. Benchwarmers won as the Butchers forfeited but they still came down and organised a game between themselves and some young Spartans. Great to see them (and all their kids) looking great in a new set of singlets (better than the bibs).

06.01.2022 Monday night saw the 2nd round of our new season. At 6pm Palm and Pawn Tropics took on the Spartans and the Tropics got their 2nd win in a row. The Moon inspired tropics went on the offensive straight away hitting some 3 pointers, even Sam Monix Sutton hitting a bomb in the 2nd quarter.... Spartans were holding on quite well and at the half time break were only 4 points down. Tropics came out in the 3rd quarter and must have decided to run their famous Puke plays because they subbed quick, scored quick and with fresh legs on the bench put up 21 points in the 3rd quarter. Spartans can take something positive away by outscoring the Tropics in the last quarter. Final score 43-23. 2nd game Phoenix had to forfeit to the Butchers. 3rd game the Exies were up against the Coota Guys. Exies stung by a 1 point loss last week started on fire and led by 8 points at half time. Coota guys outscored the Exies in the 3rd, thanks to Heydon Penrith scoring all his teams points. Exies still in front at the last break but the Coota guys came out and hit 3 x 3’s straight away to grab the lead and the game coming down to the last seconds. Coota guys up by 2 points and a foul on a 3 point shot by Tom Walker saw him head to the line but only managed 1. Exies losing their 2 game in a week by 1 point. Coota guys winning 36-35. Heydon Penrith ending up with 23 points of his team 36! Ladder is below and could tighten up a lot when some of the top teams play each other in the coming weeks

06.01.2022 Men’s draw for the season Note the Grandfinal is on a Saturday Game times are 6pm/7pm and 8pm... If you notice any problems please see us on Monday night

04.01.2022 MONDAY MENS BASKETBALL 6pm Exies and Spartans started the night off and Exies recorded their 3rd win for the season 53-26.... No single person really worrying the scorers that much but Zac Curran for the Exies scoring well toward the end and Aaron Aaron Schachtner and Matt McGhie scoring most of the Spartans points. Nick Hogarth must have got his top score ever of 6 points, reminding the refs each time he scored! 7pm Phoenix were after only their 2nd win of the season after registering 3 draws so far and started off the game with 3 x 3 pointers in the first minute or so to jump to a lead against the Coota guys. Turnovers cost the Coota Guys early on but it was the experienced defense of the older Phoenix guys which eventually won them the game. The scores got very close at the end and another draw was on the cards. Hayden Penrith 11 points and a returning Matt Walsh (watch out when he finds his form) tried hard but a couple of good mid range shots by Dylan Peters secured the win for Phoenix 44-38. The Fijian flyer Biligi again top scoring hitting 25 points. 8pm Tropics were out to topple the butchers but not even Ed Monix could help them. They started the game strong with a few 3’s but Butchers settled, started to play good basketball, play to their strengths and started to pile on the points. Butchers scored at will, good passing inside to moving players and finished the game 69-25. Patrick Sweeney finishing with 24 pts and Brad Slattery with 21. This was the last game prior to school holidays and we will return to the court on the 12th October. The games on Monday didn’t change any teams positions on the ladder but closed it up even tighter.

02.01.2022 Unisex basketball. 3 games remain for our unisex teams. The committee has been watching games closely and how our modified rules go. Some are good, some have really altered the way Basketball should be played. We were going to wait for next year to alter some rules but we are going to give them a try for the last 3 games.... 1. Score limit on the men still applies. Also the maximum number of men on the court still remains. You can play with 2 men, 1 or none if you wish. 2. Size 6 ball still in use 3. Men can still not block a woman’s shot (that’s for 7 foot tall Nathan Smith) they can still play defense and stand there with their hands up but can’t actively block the shot. 4. The biggest change will be that men are now allowed in the key. (Red painted area on court 1) we are hoping this will make teams defend more, set up a zone defense and slow the game down a little. Referees will also be enforcing the 3 second violation rule more strictly (don’t know it just ask next week) So now the men are allowed in the key, please be aware of the physical contact. Yes it is a semi contact sport but we are not playing any finals, there are no winners/losers and the game is a social game for fun/exercise and to get parents and some more women involved in the game. We will look at some more rule changes for next year but want to see how these go. Unisex teams are invited to the presentation night on the 12th December and would love to see a few people come down to watch the men’s GF at 2pm. Great opportunity to see exactly how the game is played (hopefully )

01.01.2022 Don’t forget our juniors pool Xmas party tomorrow afternoon. 4pm to 6pm Slide has been booked for the kids and a few presentations will be made. Just come into the stadium first to grab your tickets for entry and wristbands.... Just a couple of photos of two groups of our under 10 kids from our last training day on Tuesday. 40deg day but didn’t stop them all having one last game for the year. Sorry we missed grabbing some photos of the older kids.
