25.01.2022 JANUARY can be a month of relaxation, after a crazy Christmas season, or you can continue to keep the speed and go somewhere to learn about new cultures and/or creatures. A visit to the wintry wonderlands of the Northern Hemisphere can make a nice change from the heat of the Southern lands, or vice versa. Whether you are after a short break or epic trip, there is something for everyone. When you think of January and think 'Hot', here are some places for you.... Botswana India... Myanmar (Burma) Australia Southern USA Caribbean Why these places? BOTSWANA is not your usual getaway and not the first place you think of for a holiday, but definitely worth a visit. It's 'Green Season' - canoe along the channels of the Okanvango Delta, spot elephants and buffalo in Chobe National Park and although afternoon thunderstorms are common, wildlife is in abundance and prices are lower! INDIA can be hot and humid, if you go at the wrong time. After Christmas, Kerala offers detoxing yoga retreats, wildlife watching or just relax at a resort. If you want to know more about India, follow About India Travel. In MYANMAR (BURMA) jump on a riverboat and cruise down the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River in full flow. Visit temples and pagodas that are thousands of years old and be surrounded by the warm and welcoming people of Myanmar. AUSTRALIA has so much to offer in January. This is peak time for most destinations in January, but the weather can be perfect and there is so much to do and see. Lord Howe Island allows only 400 people to stay at anytime and with no mobile service available, it is the perfect spot to turn off. Visit Tasmania for walking and wildlife, food and wine and history. A USA winter is not all cold and snow! Think Southern USA for fun in the sun! Florida has everything from relaxing on the beach to shopping up a storm, theme parks, bars and nightlife and the wildlife hiding in the Everglades. The weather is much kinder in January than the hot and humid summer weather. Not far from Florida, are the CARIBBEAN ISLANDS. Flop and drop on an island, taste spices and chocolate in Grenada, spa treatments and fitness in St Lucia, flamingos in Aruba, or visit the Exuma Cays to swim with pigs at Pig Beach! Take a cruise from the USA and visit multiple islands and only unpack once! Sailing with Royal Caribbean, you can also visit Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean's own Island! These are just a few options for a warm January, ask me if you need more ideas!

25.01.2022 This is a great way to find out what happens on the other side!

25.01.2022 JANUARY can be a cold climate destination too! Check out these options.... Switzerland Romania Colorado... Antarctic Peninsula Poland SWITZERLAND - A great place to discover 350km of ski slopes when skiing is at its best. From beginner slopes to the most advanced, there is something for everyone. You may even see a celebrity or two. Cosy up near the fire and nibble some Swiss chocolate is not a bad option either! ROMANIA - Explore castles in the mountains and see for yourself if they are more fairy tale or vampire style. Follow wolf tracks in the snow of the Carpathian Mountains and stay in an ice hotel for a lot cheaper than in Canada and Scandinavia. COLORADO - With 25 ski areas, Colorado has plenty to offer any skier. January hits the mark for some awesome powder. There are many places to choose from, so something for the beginner to the advanced. Check out some of the 300 craft breweries, Mexican food, truffle fries and gourmet burgers. ANTARCTIC PENINSULA - In January you will see and hear the penguins colonies with their chicks early in the month, with whale sightings towards the end of the month. With almost permanent daylight at this time of year, you will have plenty of time to see the sights. POLAND - A visit to Poland in January will be a wildlife wonderland. See wolves, lynx, bison, elk (moose), otters and boar, while hiking/snow shoeing in the National Parks. If you don't see any of these in the wild, you can always visit a captive bred animal reserve! These are definitely great places for your bucket list!

19.01.2022 This morning I was a visitor on the Viking Orion. This ship is beautiful. A five star, all inclusive destination on the sea! Their attention to detail, from leather wrapped handrails, to over 150 artworks and displays, is outstanding. The ship carries only 930 passengers, so there’s always plenty of room. Of these passengers, there are NO children! Anyone under the age of 18 cannot go on a Viking cruise. Take a look at the pics for some of the areas onboard. Call, chat, message, text, email me to book! These cruises sell out 18 months in advance, so get in now for 2022!

16.01.2022 CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD - KAZAKHSTAN Christmas in Kazakhstan is almost always snowy, as it snows for around four months of the year during the winter. About 70% of people in Kazakhstan are Muslims, so Christmas isn't a big holiday. Most of the Christians in Kazakhstan belong to Orthodox churches, so they celebrate Christmas on January 7th, rather than on December 25th. For Orthodox Christians Advent lasts for 40 days, and some people won't eat any meat during this time. Ad...vent ends when you can see the first star in the night sky on January 6th; this symbolises the birth of Jesus and then the main Christmas meal can start. After the meal, many Orthodox Christians will go to a midnight church service. Some non Orthodox Christians might celebrate Christmas on December 25th or sometimes the Sunday before. They have also translated some English songs into Kazakh and Russian and there are a few traditional songs that were composed in Kazakhstan, but they normally sing their usual worship songs in Church on the day they celebrate Christmas. In Kazakhstan, the main winter festival is New Year. So while there aren't Christmas trees, Father Christmas/Santa or Christmas presents for the good children... there IS a New Year tree, there IS a Snow Father/Father Frost/Grandfather Frost, called 'Ayaz Ata' (Аяз Ата) in Kazakh. He often travels with 'Kar Kz' (which means 'Snow Girl' or 'Snow Maiden') who is his granddaughter. Ayaz Ata and Kar Kz bring presents to children at New Year. There are lots of fireworks and other celebrations to welcome in the New Year. The 1st and 2nd of January are public holidays in Kazakhstan and the 7th January was made a public holiday on in 2007. When Kazakhstan was part of the USSR, all religions were banned and the government made the New Year celebrations important - that's why they are still more important than Christmas today - even after 25 years after the collapse of the USSR. (In fact Kazakhstan finalized independence from the USSR on December 25th 1991! Kazakhstan Independence Day is celebrated on 16th December, the date is the first officially Independence declared from the Soviet Union.) Koledniki-valvasor Snow Father and the Snow Maiden in Astana. Photo by Alkhimov Maxim, via Wikimedia Commons Just as countries have celebrations in the run-up to Christmas, Kazakhstan’s New Year celebrations start in early December. At New Year celebrations, children recite a poem or sing a song for the jolly Snow Father in his blue (or red) suit and he gives them a New Year present around the New Year tree! There are baubles and twinkly lights in the shop windows and everyone is excited. So other than a change of date and despite being a Muslim country, Christmas ends up being pretty similar to Christmas elsewhere in the world! (But not many people know about The Christmas Story and the birth of Jesus.) (Thanks to Why Christmas)

02.01.2022 2020: The year the Earth stopped.

02.01.2022 It has been a tough couple of months for the travel industry, with the COVID-19. With no end in sight, cancellations and changes daily, we are losing sight of what we love.... TRAVEL. Today, I was supposed to be on a plane heading to my #1 bucket list destination, Cuba, but instead, I am at home, in isolation (washing, cleaning), like so many others across the world. Cuba will still be there, when all this ends, and I will get there, but when this all does end, will it be t...he right time to go? One question we get asked a lot is, 'when is the best time to go there?'. This mostly depends on why you want to go there. Is there something there you would like to see? Is there an activity you want to do while you are there? Do you have holidays at a certain time and want to know where to go? While we are safe in isolation, I will have a look at the best places to be and when. Discover what is on at specific times and dream of where we will travel when the borders and countries reopen.
