25.01.2022 Day 79. Krka Waterfalls. Krka National Park is just a bit more than an hour drive northwest of Split. The Park is located along Krka River and consists of 7 waterfalls. It’s smaller than Plitvice but just as beautiful. Plitvice somewhat disappointed me 2 days ago for not that green and that much water. I couldn’t blame anybody. The timing was not perfect. 22.01.2022 Day 81. Fortress of Klis When you drive into Split at night, you won’t miss It. It’s the only place up on the hill still spotlighted catching your eyes. This 2-thousand-years old medieval castle stands up on the 360 metre high hill overlooking Split. For over hundreds of years, the fortress was in an excellent strategic position for many Croatian Kings controlling this area in defending all invasions from enemies. You can imagine how many wars occurred and how much blood ...was from the soldiers fought along the path to the fortress from medieval to Ottoman Empire. It’s a must go attraction for those who visit Split. It became even more famous after the overwhelmingly popular TV drama, Game of Thrones, which was filmed here (as well as in Diocletian's Palace in Split). If you are the fans of the drama, you cant afford to miss it. The major part of the castle was well preserved and maintained. I think it did not need much CGI editing in the production. You will find all the familiar scenes appeared in the drama. 22.01.2022 78. . Riva in front of Diocletian’s Palace is the popular waterfront promenade for tourists. It’s very crowded during summer in the restaurants and harbour. So quiet in this time of the year though. In ancient days, wall of the fort stood right at the waterfront. Amazing!! I mentioned Enterprises Rentacar in last post. Surprised that they do monitor social media and seriously responded right away asking me to contact customer care. I wrote to customer care reporting... the case. One month passed and heard nothing. Oh well. It only caused inconvenience and actually I did not expect any compensation. Just wanted to share the experience in my posts. 21.01.2022 77. Pritvice is always compared with Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan, China, which I should say similar but also different. We stayed more than half day there but still not enough time to visit all the lakes. It needs 2 days if not rush. Scenery was spectacular and water was crystal clear. Just watching and listening the flowing water were a treat and pleasure. Could be perfect if trees and grass were greener. Oh well, it’s winter. No crowd to compete in taking pics, which sure...ly happens in summer, is a trade-off. Arrived split late. Enterprise gave me a Mazda CX5 while I booked a Mercedes GLA and claimed both in the same class. Think Mazda is happy to be premium car but Mercedes won’t be happy in the same class as Mazda. Complained but what could you do. They would just neglected. 19.01.2022 Day 83. Fort Lovrjenac Key attraction in Dubrovnik. From the fort we got the spectacular full view of Dubrovnik Old Town and City Wall over the rough Adriatic Sea. 18.01.2022 83. Dubrovnik Old Town With 1300 years of history, the city was almost completely destroyed by earthquake and rebuilt about 350 years ago. 17.01.2022 Day 80. Visit the old town Trogir, west of Split about 40 minutes driving. Two key landmarks, Tower Kamerlengo and St Mark Tower were both built 600-700 years ago. Considering the long history, they were still reasonably maintained in the original shape but not open to tourists, a pity. Cathedral of St. Lawrence, on the other hand was kept so well though it’s actually old than the above two. 15.01.2022 81. After Fortress of Klis, we visited a nice place near Spit. Dragon’s Eye Lake is just an hour drive from Split. The 10,000 sq. metre lake is an unique natural phenomena, formed about 10,000 years ago when the ceiling of a cavern collapsed. The large cave was unveiled and the lake was formed. The lake connects to ocean through underground channels so it’s live water. Obviously this is another hidden gem as I saw no tourist there, maybe just during winter. The calm lake looked like a perfect mirror. It’s said that people can swim in the lake in summer and the deeper you dive the warmer the water.

13.01.2022 82. We crossed Franjo Tudjman Bridge before entering city of Debrovnik. Weather was really good. 07.01.2022 Day 78. Relax in Split Have a relaxing first day in Split after a long drive. It is the 2nd largest city in Croatia (still not big though). Stayed at a nice 1-bed villa with sea view, spa, sauna, kitchen and most importantly, laundry. It allowed us to have a big wash of all our clothes. The rent was very good because of slow season. Because of the same reason, most popular water activities had not opened yet. A shame but we avoided the crowded tourists. The most ...important attraction is of course Diocletian's Palace built 1400 years ago. It is massive. Part of the palace was for Diocletian’s personal use and part for military purpose. The major structure is still there and well preserved. Apart from Cathedral, Gates and Temple, substructure of palace which was used as storage in ancient time is also popular among tourists. It’s a bit pity that shops, restaurants and even some local people had moved in and lived there. 07.01.2022 79. Had our dinner at a small local restaurant near our villa. Konoba Ostarija is a family owned restaurant offering traditional Croatian food. Their family have been running the restaurant for over 200 years though not in the currant location. They have a rich collection of celebrities’ photos hanged on the walls though I don’t know all of them, maybe I’m too young.... Only fresh foods will be served and not pricy. 04.01.2022 82. Arrived Debrovnik in late afternoon. Settled down in Hilton Imperial, which I reckon the best hotel there. Nice room, friendly reception and staff as what you can expect from a Hilton. Most importantly it’s close to every attraction in the city. Highly recommended. 01.01.2022 Day 82. Good-bye Split. Left Split and took a 4-hour drive to Dubrovnik. It’s funny driving from a city to another within Croatia. Dubrovnik is located on a piece of land detached from Croatia. We had to cross the border entering Bosnia and then went back to Croatia again. Anyway, it’s not complicated. Just use the Neum Corridor to pass the border crossing showing the passport for inspection. Bosnia is not part of EU. You will need a visa if the car was not rented in ...Croatia. On the way you should not miss Walls of Ston so called European wall of China. It’s just 20 min drive after re-entering Coratia. It looks like a miniature of The Great Wall, though it’s only 7 Km long and less than 800 years history. The function was the same in the old days, protection of Ston city.
