23.01.2022 Does sunscreen expire? It sure does! And if it's expired it won't protect like it should, leaving you exposed and most likely sun burnt! Some sunscreen brands will include an expiry date on the bottle but others don't. If they don't, the rule of thumb is 3 years. The below signs are likely to indicated expiry, but if in doubt, throw it out and buy a fresh one.... Consistency - watery or chunky Colour - strange or unusual shade Smell - different or weird to the standard See more

22.01.2022 The most common types of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, are still considered dangerous. While these two non-melanoma skin cancers are often easily treated, if left untouched they can lead to extensive tissue damage, with some squamous cell carcinoma known to metastasize. If diagnosed with any type of cancer, please make treatment a priority.

22.01.2022 Ever wondered how long it takes for UV ray to impact our skin? Have a look....it's scarier than you may think Thanks for sharing SunSmart!!

21.01.2022 Please don't think you are much better protected from the suns UV rays when wearing SPF50 rather than SPF30. The truth is, there is only a tiny 1.3% difference between the two. SPF 30+ filters approximately 96.7% of UVB rays, while SPF50 filters 98%. Make sure you re-apply any sunscreen regularly and follow all the sun smart rules to stay protected.

19.01.2022 Did you know your risk of developing skin cancer starts as a child? Research has found that 5+ bad sunburns before the age of 20 can increase the risk of developing melanoma by 80% While melanoma is the least common skin cancer, it is the most aggressive. Basal and Squamous Cell Carcinoma's are also very prevalent in our older population and mostly, this is a direct result of over exposure to UV rays throughout their lifetime. ... If you have spent a lot of time in the sun, just make sure you get to know your skin and have professional skin checks regularly

19.01.2022 Like many medical treatments, some people are more suited to one treatment over another, and the same applies for Superficial Radiotherapy for non-melanoma skin cancers. We believe this treatment option is best if you: Are older (+60) Have lesions in cosmetically sensitive areas such as ears, eyelids, or on the nose... Are on anti-clotting medication such as Aspirin or Warfarin Have skin cancers on the lower legs with medical concerns about wound healing Have adverse pathology after surgery Wish to avoid surgery as a personal preference Have other skin malignancies such as lymphoma Have keloids/hypertrophic scars Got more questions? Give us a call on (07) 5348 9460 and we'll happily answer them

19.01.2022 The sun always shines after the rain, and what a stunning day it was today! The rain brought with it huge amounts of joy for some, yet caused utter devastation for others. Our hearts go out to those who are suffering, and we're celebrating with those who deserve that too.

17.01.2022 It's a fact that applying sunscreen and wearing protective clothing and a hat won't inhibit your vitamin D intake. All we need is 10 minutes each day in the sun, which most would easily get through our daily routine. We also obtain some of our daily dose via the food we consume including oily fish, eggs and mushrooms

17.01.2022 KELOID SCARS! There are approximately 18 million people worldwide who are genetically prone to them, with the most common course of treatment being surgical excision. This excision, however, isn't necessarily a cure and can lead to recurrence in 90% or more cases. That is until now. Superficial Radiotherapy (SRT) now plays a crucial role in the treatment of keloid scars and can drastically decrease recurrence rates. ... How? When keloids are treated with SRT post surgical excision, recurrence rates have, in majority of cases, decreased to a staggering 10%. 16.01.2022 Don't forget about your scalp!! Did you know, approximately 13% of all skin cancers diagnosed are found on the scalp! The good news is, we can treat most non-melanoma skin lesions very easily, using superficial radiotherapy.... The treatment specifically targets skin cancer cells but only penetrates your skin to a maximum depth of 9mm. This means there is zero impact to any other internal or external parts of your body or skin. Prevention is always better than a cure so if possible, always wear a hat when you're in the sun, put sunscreen on balding areas and make sure your Doctor thoroughly checks your scalp during your regular skin checks. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to call us on 07 5348 9460.
