14.01.2022 Luca's Legacy - 12 months on Unfortunately a year after loosing Luca directly from entanglement in fishing line, we have two more dolphins with a degree of ent...anglement, both first noticed in May/June. River, of most immediate concern, is pictured below. Estuary Guardians have been providing photos and information to DBCA since then, and continue to liaise, for rescue responses from the department. From Luca we all know time is critical. Krista Nicholson from Mandurah Dolphin Research Project spoke on ABC Perth radio today on the dolphins and this issue. Disentangling a wild dolphin is at best extremely difficult with prevention being far easier than cure. Ultimately we continue to hope for successful outcomes ASAP, but importantly we, the community, must do all we can to prevent loose fishing line from entering the waterways and endangering our dolphins. Please take a few minutes to listen to the interview to learn more about the entangled dolphins https://soundcloud.com/kirr-bys/abc-radio-interview DBCA will also speak on the issue on ABC Perth radio tomorrow morning 7am See more
