21.01.2022 Our Viticulturist, Nigel van der Zande, has spent more than 20 years tending these vines ... he shares a little of his intimate knowledge about this fantastic variety Grenache that grows so beautifully in Barossa and has been the workhorse of the region from the beginnings! Check out the Grenache collection. A bit more from Vanders. Grenache is generally associated with bigger bunches and berries and younger plantings can be quite fruitful. It's the bunch and berry size th...at largely dictates the viticulture. Things like Spur Pruning means we can create more space for the bunches giving them the opportunity to reach optimum colour while avoid overcrowding. We also keep the bud number per vine low to ensure we get a nice canopy in the spring. Grenache is a very hardy variety. Our clay dominant soils are perfect, holding good moisture from winter rain to establish the canopies but then dries out later in the season allowing us to control the bunch and berry size perfectly. If you can get an adequate canopy established in spring Grenache will pretty much make it through any summer, which makes it ideally suited to our warming climate and an enormously important variety going forward. 18.01.2022 SINGLE VINEYARD. THE FAVE GRENACHE. 'This is from a small parcel of vines, planted in the 1930’s on the estate vineyard. It delivers a very floral style that is accentuated by whole bunches. There’s exuberant fragrance here and lots of strawberries, too.
