Westpac jumps gun, lowers APRA buffers Westpac has unleashed a fresh wave of property lending by relaxing serviceability conditions on low risk loans, immediately increasing the borrowing capacity of aspiring home owners by as much as 8 per cent.... A home buyer who’s capacity had previously been assessed at $500,000 under the 7.25 per cent floor will now be assessed at being able to service a loan of around $540,000 under the 6.5 per cent floor. Heading back to Qld, we stopped at the #wyongmilkfactory, highly recommend this quirky place - friendly staff, great coffee and extremely good in their care and attention in offering gluten free options. Love finding interesting pit stops...this one also has a small boutique chocolate shop #lukachocolates...found a single origin treat to keep us going on the rest of the trip! #roadtrip #lovechocolate #glutenfreefriendly #nsw

We’re not sure that Westpac’s backflip was as elegant as this one as they caved in last night to APRA fury and reinstated a key lending restriction after incurring the prudential regulator’s wrath by removing it without approval earlier this week. Westpac infuriated the prudential regulator after it went rogue and released a handbrake on residential property lending that has been in place across Australian banks since 2014. A spokesman for the Australian P...rudential Regulation Authority said it was surprised a big four bank had lowered the serviceability floor before a consultation process designed to refine the standard had been completed.
