21.01.2022 Learning Kalari is not just about learning the martial art. When you become a student you have the opportunity to take part in many activities such as learning medicine making, assisting in our treatment centre, participating in student workshops, performing in Kalari demonstrations and celebrating cultural events. The next term of Kalari classes begins on Wednesday the 22nd of January. Learn more here: https://www.kalaripayattu.com.au/

19.01.2022 Kizhi is a technique used in Kalari Chikitsa and Ayurvedic treatments for various pain-related conditions. A Kizhi is a poultice that is densely packed with herbal ingredients. The Kizhi is dipped in heated herbal oil throughout the treatment and massaged over the affected area or whole body, as required. The warmth of the poultices, combined with the active ingredients of the herbs and oils, improves circulation and reduces body stiffness and pain.

17.01.2022 COVID-19 update for our treatment centre and Kalaripayattu school. KALARI AYURVEDA CENTRE As our centre specialises in pain and injury management, most of our methods are hands-on treatments. But since the 26th of March, in alignment with Queensland Government requirements, we have temporarily stopped all treatments and massage. We will continue once we receive clear guidance that we are allowed to do so.... There are still ways we can help you during this time, such as: FREE short Ayurvedic consultations, during April, via phone and WhatsApp on 0424 939 130. For recent clients please let us know if you need a resupply of ayurvedic herbs and we can post them to you. We will continue our traditional medicine making and will have a new batch of our pain-relieving Kalari Balm ready soon. AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL OF KALARIPAYATTU Our school has temporarily moved to online classes for current students. We are working on the body conditioning elements of Kalari to keep the strength and fitness required for when we return to normal classes. Classes are adapted to home conditions and students are learning in small groups so they get more individual attention. Thank you for your support and understanding.

14.01.2022 One of the most important tools in Kalari Chikitsa and Ayurvedic treatments is the treatment table itself. Known as a Droni, it is hand carved from a single piece of medicinal wood (such as the neem tree). Hard wearing and durable, if looked after well, a table will last for hundreds of years. In fact, Biju spent years learning Kalari Chikitsa on his Grandmasters 600-year-old treatment table. The tables design allows for treatments with an abundance of Ayurvedic herbal oil to be performed. Over time these oils become absorbed by the table, and thus the table itself is part of the healing process.

13.01.2022 Our centre is allowed to reopen and we have recommenced massage treatments for pain and injury management. This is in accordance with the latest QLD Health directive, published on the 22nd of April. We are continuing to take all necessary measures to ensure the health and safety of our clients and staff. You can call on 0424 939 130 to make a booking or to discuss treatment options. For the clients who cant travel to us, or live interstate, please call for advice on how to b...est manage your pain conditions from home, particularly during the colder months. Our free short Ayurvedic consultations, available during April, will be extended through May. These can be done via phone and WhatsApp.

11.01.2022 Kalari team having Onam sadhya at Lemon Chillies Indian Restaurant

10.01.2022 Happy Onam. Onam is the ten day harvest festival celebrated in Kerala. On the tenth day, Thiruvonam (today) we celebrate with a sadhya for lunch. Sadhya is a variety of vegetarian dishes served on a banana leaf and eaten with the hand. Traditionally, the ingredients for the sadhya would be harvested from our own land.... The sadhya follows the Ayurvedic principle of shad rasa (six tastes). Ayurveda believes that a perfect meal should have a balance of sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent. The balancing of these six tastes promotes equilibrium and a sense of wellbeing in mind and body afterwards.
